i dont think he took any of that into account. especially since the biggest downside of the quest is the low power. You completely negate that aspect when youre using a pc to play. I mean you still have a lower refresh rate but aside from that theres basically no issues.

I have set 2 boundaries in a room for my quest. One for roomscale, the other for seated(like for bigscreen etc.) When i look on one side of the room it loads seated, when i look to the other side it loads roomscale. I like that. Just hold your hands over the cameras that it looses tracking, look in the right direction and release your hands and it loads the other guardian.

I find the comparison between the rift s and quest fair, but the review seemed a little uneven when it came to the index. The valve index is $600 more than both the rift s and quest. I feel that for a more fair review, and to include more headsets you could make a high-end consumer vid comparing the indext, vibe pro, and cosmos. And have a beginner/budget video comparing the windows MR, quest, and rift s

cosmos is out of the question, and vive pro vs index comparisons have been done a thousand times before (hint: index wins everytime) however I do agree that this is like comparing a Ferrari to say a BMW.. yes obviously the Ferrari is better but its also more expensive, you get what you pay for and I think both the valve index and rift s or any other oculus headset have good value

@@volty313 I think its more like off road car on a normal car. Sure if you are often off road (high end vr games) or plan to go off road often ( exp. Half Life) then investing in a special headset is worth, but if you just want to dabble in it and usually drive on normal roads (beat saber and other games that are more arcade or gimmick) then the investment wouldnt be worth. But ye thats also the reason the comparison aint that good. Its simmilar to my comparison you compare either the ability to go offroad and obviosly the off road car wins or the ability to be sustainable on normal roads and duh normal cars win :D

great breakdown, i appreciate the video.. .One thing i'd like to point out for potential buyers, The Valve Index scored low for ease of set up (a one-time effort, and not all that difficult imo) but scored highest for tracking (which instrumental to the overall experience) - the set up comes with the territory of having such superior tracking and room-scale. In my opinion, that one-time effort is well worth it. c'mon, you want superior tracking when the refresh rate is so damned good too.

I have a Rift CV1, Rift S, Quest and the Valve index. If you want the best VR on PC the index wins hands down but you will have to pay a decent amount for that and you will really want to have a 1080 or higher graphics card. The are a few big thing this review missed. 1. Audio. The index audio is awesome. The audio and Rift S and Quest are pretty bad. There are some aftermarket audio solutions you can do for Quest and Rift S but that will cost you more and still won't be as good as the index audio. The Audio in the Rift CV1 was much better than these new Oculus headsets. 2. Comfort. This video missed out on talking about comfort. The Quest is by far the most uncomfortable headset out of all three with Index being the most comfortable and Rift S as runner up. 3. Field of View. The FOV is much better on the index than the Rift S and the Rift S is slightly better than the Quest. Oh, also the Quest is 72Hz not 70Hz that was a mistake in the video. Besides those points I thought this video was pretty good and fair. The index setup howerver is not that hard if you planned properly. The lighthouses come with stands that you can use and if that does not work for you in your room there are clamp on stands you can buy cheap on amazon so you can mount your lighthouses onto something easily in seconds. I personally use the stands that came with it for one lighthouse and the other one i have a clamp that attaches to my curtain rod.

The Index setup is super easy, connect the lighthouses to a wall outlet, run the Steam setup and you're done, you don't need to drill holes or do anything special. My sensors are below my waist height and they work flawlessly. I was very happy with my CV1 but the Index is by far the best headset I've tried; it's expensive but it's on another level. For new players the Rift S is a great first headset IMO, much cheaper and great quality too. Too bad about the awful audio and lack of IPD, though.

Zamaron58 if you want PC VR only I would highly recommend the Rift S (if your IPD is in range) or if you have more money to spend then the superior Index. I would only get a quest if you are also interested in non PC stand alone VR. Quest is easily the most or one of the most uncomfortable headsets even if it is amazing. If you do get a Quest, take a look at the mods for it like the Vive audio strap for example. That will give it more comfort and better sound.

It is nice to know someone understands there are people out there who just wanna plug-and-play with VR. Features are nice, but 'Quality over Dollar' is king to consumers. But, you should definitely make a video of the Oculus quest's capability to play over PC now too and should wait till the new optic fiber dedicated cable for it comes out. Thanks for the video.

I mean, we all want better visuals, I think in terms of value for money and making sure it can run compatibly with your laptop or desktop, the Quest is probably the way to go. I just hope when it comes to the updates it doesn’t require me to just get a new one and it will just simply update my existing headset once I get it.

@@nisseproductions7052 No one really knew when the Index would release. So it's fair that a lot of people just bought Rift S first. Valve does zero marketing. Okay, ONE marketing campaign and it's super subtle. To announce their 8 year project (4 year deep dev) most valuable IP they have, to the craziest fanboy gamers on planet earth..........they make a fucking twitter account for the first time and tweet it out, then post a video on their youtube channel that only has hardly a million subs. If are not in on the super speculative theory stuff of Valve, you would have no clue. Oculus is backed by Facebook who run multi-million dollar marketing campaigns and has them displayed all crazy and pay for demos at tens of thousands of retail stores and advertises on FACEBOOK all the time. So yea, people would normally buy the Oculus product over the Valve product, lol.

    @digitalstyx_est.2018

@@nisseproductions7052 For a VR Enthusiast the Index is the definite choice. The Rift S is the best headset for anyone with a PC. Almost everyone new to VR with a PC should start with a Rift S. It will be worth their money and likely for quite some time. I think the Index is its best value when it tempts a person who already has VR. Once you want an Index it will not disappoint you if you get one. If you are wondering why someone would pay $1000 for one kit when another that gets good reviews is $400 then you should probably not spend $1000 just to find out. The Index was built by enthusiasts for enthusiasts and in direct response to the feedback and desires of users of SteamVR on headsets prior to 2019's line up. Not everyone becomes a VR enthusiast for various reasons. If you do you will want the Index yourself before long. The one exception to a person new to VR getting an Index is Serious PC gamers getting VR for Half-life Alyx. I have no doubt they will want the best. The Rift is is Medium to Good settings. The Index is Ultra, and the Quest is just too uncomfortable to care how well Oculus link compares to Rift S. It is close enough visually that if everything else was equal the mobility of the Quest could be the deciding factor. However, nothing else is Equal. The Rift S is cheaper (black Friday), more comfortable (by many times) and a true PCVR headset meaning the PC resources go to gaming not compression. That is especially important for anyone who wants to stream or record. End of the day the Quest is being push forward by hype not honest reviews from VR enthusiasts. The excitement about Quest is it is impressive mobile VR, and all of us who have loved VR have struggled to get friends to try it out. We hope bringing it to our friends could create opportunities to share. All said and done the Quest is no doubt a great device, but just not the device for all that it is hyped to be and its not the future of VR unless by calling it that people expect VR to be dead. Hopefully Half Life Alyx ignites the future of VR. Quality content on the device of your choice instead of mediocre content locked in to a store and only available on cheap devices because the company didn't offer anything better.

I don't understand the problem with setting up the lighthouses, It was easy (maybe because I already had stands) and it certainly didn't take hours... I do think it's a shame you didn't add the vive pro to the comparison as that's about the same price as (starterkit) as the index now.

Good Video!! I got the quest and now linking it. don’t mind it not being lower res than the index. I would spend $$ on a VR headset if it allows me to watch movies in high fidelity. Not there yet.

Check out StarVR. Supposed to be native 4k per eye, eye tracking, 210* horizontal FOV, and like 180* Vertical FOV. all for the low price of $3500, if you can figure out where to buy one.

Great comparison video with honest reasons why they differ. I have the Rift CV1. I'm still waiting for others to show how well the Quest works with the Oculus Link cable yes I saw the demos of Tyriel Wood Oculus Link. I also know the Rift S will be on sale for $349 on the Lenovo website soon. The Rift S uses LCD not OLED but is very comfortable to wear but the sound is not as good neither is the Quest. The is less friction with the Quest but games now are not as powerful as the Rift S but it's portable and you can let others use it. The Quest is front heavy so it needs a battery pack modification and for better audio and better comfort buy an HTC Deluxe Audio Strap and modify the Quest it will be more comfortable putting on and taking off. Also the Index has 140 Field of View the Quest and Rift S have 110 FOV.

literally was playing VR games within 30 minutes of my index arriving home. I get that it is more involved than setting up a rift s, but I cant believe so many reviewers are making it seem like you need to be god damned general contractor in order to setup an Index. Were you freaking out when you saw the sticker that would need to be cut to open the box??

If you have the money to spare, and you are going for pro everything. Then buy the Valve Index. But if you don’t have that much money to spare, and you don’t care about visuals then get the Oculus Rift S.

You may want to revisit the games compatibility again. I have an Index, and have no issues with compatibility at all. Yes, you do need to download Revive to play Oculus exclusives, but it literally takes 30 seconds to download it. You can then launch all your Oculus games from Steam VR without having to do anything differently from launching a native steam game.
