Everyone PLEASE don’t sleep on this game -I guarantee it’s gonna be an instant classic. I’ve been playing Cyrus’s story for about an hour, and it’s simply phenomenal! Everyone please at the very least check out the demo, then pick up this masterfully crafted title!

Jo eh, I agree with that to an extent. I’m never really tired of pixel art, but because it’s so frequent these days thanks largely to the indie scene, I like when they do something unique to differentiate their pixel art from other games. Whether it’s super detailed and gorgeous like this game or (to a lesser extent, but still great) Owlboy or more unique and charming like Shovel Knight and Celeste.

The soundtrack makes me teary eyed. So beautiful.

Got a road trip coming up and this is going to be the perfect way to use my time while I'm not driving. Love that portability Nintendo!

ByondTime You’re right if you expect a battery life of more than 3 hours for a heavy game. Those last approximatively 3h and then it’s over, but if you were to play less heavy games like this maybe, you could expect 5-6h I think

For a second I read "while I'm driving"

The art in the game is just beautiful. It really harkens back to the classic 16 bit era Squaresoft art that has never been surpassed in my opinion. I sure hope SquareEnix makes more games in this style, there's so much potential.

FUN FACT: The narrator for launch trailer of Octopath Traveler is the same movie trailer announcer that you hear during the sneak previews from Disney Home Entertainment-- *MARK ELLIOT.*

I skipped the first demo, just because I didn't think this game wasn't anything too special. Then, the direct happened, and I thought to myself "what the heck? This game looks gorgeous! Why didn't I pay much attention to it before?" Nintendo then released the 3-hour demo.... And I didn't want to stop playing after my time was up. This game is AMAZING. The battle system is so much fun and the characters are really cool. Not a day-one purchase for me, because I'm short on money, but believe me, I will buy this game as soon as possible.

This is one of the best break down / trailers for a game i've ever seen, please do more like this!

As much as I hate to say it,i have to agree with Nicolas ,popularity and graphics do have a role in goty. Now if you have proof of a game that was goty,that wasn't popular or had incredible graphics(at that current time)please tell me,and I mean this in a respectful way.

I've never had the dedication to go back and replay a game from the start. This game was the first. I'd played it before, clocking in about 60 hours, and I wasn't done yet (I was training for the true final boss.) Then, one day, I started a new save file and accidentally saved over that 60 hour file. It was a crushing feeling. It was my favorite game (still is), and I'd put more time into that game than any other game at the time, even more than my old favorites like Kirby and Pokemon. But I wasn't ready to come back to it. I didn't want to come back to it. I stopped for 2 months. Then, I put the cartridge back in. I saw that new save file where my old file was. I didn't want to go back, but at the same time, I did. It was and is my favorite video game, hands down. The stories, the pixel art style, the music, EVERYTHING. It pulled me back in. And now, here I am, with a fully restored save file from scratch, and with the game 100% completed in 80 hours. I'm so glad I came back. This truly is the best RPG out there, and I hope that other RPG developers follow in this game's footsteps.

Can't wait to play it.

Bought it today (in Australia) and have just spent 6 hours playing it non stop. This game is amazing.

I played the demo and liked it soo much. The old-school art style and gameplay really drew me in, as well as the story. I started with Primrose and hers is definitely a sad and serious storyline. My friend got the game for me for my birthday and I'm excited to play further!

Update i got it and it is fantastic, I love Cyrus with his detective like traits, his amazing theme and his magic attacks are very cool visually

I don't play a lot of JRPGs, but this was absolutely amazing. I knew about it since release but only played it now and I regret not playing it immediately after launch

Got the game on launch and already put 11-12 hours into it. It's so addicting!

When I saw this game.... I saw the original soul of JRPG

Excited to play this!

This game is a ton of fun; really like what they’ve done with the battle mechanics. Doesn’t hurt that it looks and sounds amazing :)
