I remember watching this game with my dad. My oldest brother was a freshman with UT that year. He was the only Linebacker they for the 83 Class. Texas was loaded that year and had a great team. SMU was equally impressive. There was a truck load of talent being represented on the field that day. I miss the old Texas uniforms and they style they had back then. I really miss the old SWC.

It's amazing that Texas was absolutely stacked in 1983 and this ended up being Texas's last gasp for being a championship team. Texas had 9 to 3 lead going into the fourth quarter and the Texas punt returner muffed the punt. Georgia scored and Texas missed out on that national championship. Miami beat number one Nebraska that night in the Orange Bowl and won the national championship. If Texas had won that game they would have been national champions. The sad part is that Texas would be mediocre and Texas A&M would dominant the Longhorns from 84 to 94. Texas only won once in 1990 against the Aggies.

This really was the Longhorns last hurrah. They wouldn't be good again until 1996 when they won their first Big 12 Championship. The Aggies would own Texas essentially for the next 10 years.

Well they won the SWC in 1990 so they were good that year.
