As a recent grad, I've been exploring OT as a future career and videos like yours have really helped in making my decision! It's been really inspiring to see a fellow Ghanaian woman making an impact in the field. I can't wait to get the chance to experience the same one day. Sending many thanks here from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦

My suggestion is to shadow. Girl I've debated these 2 careers for years..there are pros & cons to each. To put it simply: if you are more holistic & easily have more patience with patients...OT If you are more into anatomy & phys.. faster acting solutions to diseases & don't mind complexity (or un-necessity) of medication administration..for example in some cases a patient getting too much than they need, also keeping up with side effects of medicines & contraindications etc try nursing. There is more flexibility /options & areas to work. Both are wonderful careers

Great video and informative , I’ve been speaking with a few schools in narrowing down to BS in Exercise Science with an emphasis on sports performance where it seems it can open doors to occupational therapy but I also saw there’s a program in another school that can get me from BS-Doctoral in occupational therapy . I like the thoroughness this BS in Science with emphasis on sports performance offers and I saw some schools I can transfer to MS but I wonder if that’s delaying instead of maybe going BS- Doctorate in OT. I wonder what are your thoughts ? I’m still searching a few schools , I do know I want to dive into the field of OT but I guess I wants BS in Science that can still potentially open the career field even aside from OT if that makes sense

100% OTs are underpaid. Found out from senior OTs that Hospitals NEED OTS, they dont know why but they NEED em always. Not to mention they know the whole body as well and do MENTAL health. At one hospital my friend is an OT making more than PTs because hospitals bill more for OTs but def OTs are underpaid

I’ve been wondering this as well but from what I understand so far is that there are some business that require it and others that don’t. I’m still unsure as well and am in the same place as you. But I’m assuming that if it’s a couple more months or years then maybe we should be fine to not get it? I’m hoping someone else knows this.

OTR jobs are popping up everywhere, the field is hot right now. Most OTRs can write their ticket anywhere they want and name their price and the companies will pay the ransom. Sadly, COTA jobs are no where to be found due to companies cutting back on them in preparation for the 15% cut coming January 2022. I have a COTA friend in Canada and she just got 3 of her OTA friends a job in Canada because they couldn't find a job in the USA. No doubt, COTA and PTAs will be extinct soon...

Did you hear that in order to work in California as a Healthcare provider you will now be required to be vaccinated by October 1 2021 or you won't be allowed to work. No exceptions. exceptions. Bidens going to do the same thing for all of the USA. Are you vaccinated, if not, are you going to...

@@daynamoro4705 I've been out of OT for about nine years now, but I got a call from a recruiter last month who got my number thru an old application. I told her I was no longer in OT and asked her what the going pay was for a COTA. She stated around $24 to $30 and hour. The job turned out to be 8-20 hours per week which she stated was about average in todays market. She went on to say it was probably going to get worse with companies using assistants as PRN. I spoke with a recruiter in Canada and he said there's hundreds of COTA jobs and it's only going to get better. Most jobs are full-time starting at $25 an hour and up to $42 an hour with > 20 years. Remember, COTA/PTA don't need a degree and are not regulated so licensure is not required. Sounds like Canada is the place to be as an Assistant. Something to think about...

Tina H Yes, I hear it’s changing for OTs too. Such as they’re laying off OTs, maybe keeping one or two and having more COTAs since of course they can’t afford the OTs as much as they can the COTAs. I think it depends on the area and city. I enjoy the SNF. Going back for masters for me was a must! And can open up a lot more opportunities.

OT is 95% women, paid like shit, its hard work (if you do it right), nobody understands or respects what you do BUT Its rewarding, you have a lot of options (just not financially), jobs are eeeasy to find in 2024 and its easy to work parttime. If you're looking for meaning and like people.. good choice. If you wanna make money, have an easy life or have a career (status).. bad choice.
