Ryan Howard just might be one of the most underappreciated players in Philly sports history. The guy was an absolute unit.

Come on man I’m a Phillies fan and the guy was not underrated... He performed like 2-3 great years 40-50+ HR 4.0 Avg WAR... But once he finally got into the money he ended up being overpaid... Jim Thome was about 15 years older and from 2006-2012 Howards stats were about even with Thome but Howard played more games when Thome was firmly a DH... Dont over think the couple years he had... I love Ryan Howard.. I loved him when he played... I loved that the Phillies were able to move into another power hitting 1st Baseman... But I expected so much more

0:49 i thought the place was gonna collapse it was so loud. A bright spot in an otherwise disappointing series

Had to come back to watch some of these during the Phils sudden resurgence into 1st place in the East. I was a season ticket holder from 2000-2015 and i was at the first exhibition game at CBP. In Jim Thome's first at-bat he blasted a majestic bomb into the upper deck in Right field off Jeff D'Amico and the place went absolutely crazy. It wasn't exactly a friendly hitters day since it was late March with a nice stiff wind and cold air. That is about the only thing i remember from that day

Interesting to see the empty CBP outfield seats for the first Phillies homers by Thome circa 2002 in comparison with the annual CBP sellouts beginning 5 years later.

@@rile_up, thanks for the correction. I had in my head the news story of Thome meeting with construction workers building CBP. I jumped to the mistaken conclusion that his first Phillies season was at CBP. Watching the video again, it’s clearly the Vet.
