Obscenely filthy railway station bench restoration

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This bench was made by Luterma factory, somewhere in 1880-1900 era. Most of them were destroyed, but somebody saved this one. So it is quite rare.

The design wasn’t even visible in the unfinished piece, but it was probably the reason that made the restoration worthwhile. I love the fact that you use both old master skills and cutting edge technology to achieve your fabulous results Ahti. Thank you for another mesmerizing idea!

That is an excellent restoration. Not too much, so it still has the look of an old bench. The 3D printing to replicate the pattern was inspired, and well executed, and the domed upholstery tacks finished it off nicely. Well done sir!

Oh my goodness Ahti, what restoration you have done. I know I’ve said this many times but your awesome! I had no idea that there was a design on those seats. You using that cool machine of yours definitely did it’s job. I never new you can hide those worm holes but I learned that you can. Everyone wants church pews but I’d rather have a bench from a railroad station. If this bench could talk can you imagine the wonderful n sad stories it could tell. It’s definitely been well used n probably some love. I like to mention, I’m so happy that you started this Utube channel. You are a master in your trade. I’m never disappointed in watching restore some history. Thank you. ♥️♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟🌟 PS, I love your sense of humor too.

This is absolutely stunning. Up until I was a teenager our depot had historic items like this that were a pleasure to sit on, see and try to imagine all that had passed by. It is not a restaurant and you have to catch the train up on the platform. Not sure what they did with all of the items but if they did anything like this then I'd call it success.

Enjoy watching your restoration project. Must admit I squealed when the pattern on the seat & back pieces were revealed by cleaning - gorgeous! Beautiful finished piece, imperfectly perfect. Glad you didn't remove all signs of age, but cleaned it up and made it usable again. A bench from a train station is fantastic; I have an oak bench from an old pipe organ that I adore. Might look around for old library furniture as much of that was made from oak, too.

When I was young I often visited the local pool room when the old guys would play snooker. As they smoked they laid their cigs on the table rails, the longer they ran the table the longer the cig could burn into the wood. That table was mfg. in the 19th Century and it endured decades of the same "abuse." The pool parlor closed in the 1970s, the table was sold to a local realtor who had it refinished. He was smart enough NOT to erase all those scars of yesteryear but to leave 90% of those traces of time. He embraced the patina of time. He then owned a 9'x4' master piece of Americana. What a magnificent pool table locked in his basement. I often wondered if that work of art missed its former life as the center of attention or was content in retirement.

I really respect that as much of the old, with all its scars, was kept as possible. Antique furniture, especially a railroad bench, has a reminder of everyone whoever sat in it. Every scratch, every dent is a piece of history.
