Obese Cuddly Rottweiler Finds A New Home | The Dog Rescuers | Pets & Vets

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A couple banned from keeping dogs due to a prior incidence is found with an oversized Rottweiler called Sky who isn’t in the best of conditions, likely because they are scared to take it out. The owner of an elderly Akita named Bear has asked the RSPCA to step in and re-home his dog as he feels his property is no longer suitable for this big girl. And lastly, we learn about pups who are being trained to smell diseases, specifically Bichon Oliver who alerts his owner Christine about her blood glucose level as she has diabetes.

I don’t know why Bears situation has affected me so. I feel so bad for her owner, but also because Bear is so sweet and accepting. It’s heartbreaking that they must be separated. I hope that she finds a good home for her last years.

I volunteer for an agency called ElderPets (Canada). We help seniors be able to keep their dogs at home with them as long as possible. We walk them, transport them to vet appts, drop off food, bathe and trim nails. If the person goes into hospital or is indisposed, we can foster the dog until their owner gets home again. It’s fantastic for everybody. ❤️🇨🇦

It breaks my heart about Bear when the owner has no choice to give their beloved family member up. But when a owner just doesn't want their beloved family member anymore it angers me. When you decide to adopt a precious beloved family member it's your responsibility to love and take care of them for life. And even though Bear couldn't go up and down the stairs anymore there's always something you can do for help and to give your elderly pup away whose only known you, no idea what's going on, no idea what's gonna happen angers me.

My opinion will probably not be popular, but… when the owner of an elderly dog can no longer keep them, it would be better for the dog to cross the rainbow bridge with their person than to take them away from all they have ever known.

Agree. I can't imagine the pain he must have felt, but also the compassion and selflessness to realize he was no longer capable of giving his dog the care she needed. He truly wanted her to live her best life in her final years. You can never fault someone for wanting to give their pet (or their child) a better life.

OMG that broke my heart. There’s an organization called PAWS NY as a caretaker for pets of the elderly. There comes a time when guardians get too old to walk their dogs as much as needed, or change the cat’s litter box, or take pets to the vet, etc. Usually the pets are elderly too. The volunteers take care of these things so pets and guardians can stay together…separating after being together so long isn’t optimal for either of them. I knew of this organization and meant to volunteer, but somehow haven’t gotten around to it yet. Seeing Bear reminded me, and I paused the video to register - I start volunteering next week. It’s sad that even such a service wouldn’t help Bear - she really can’t do those stairs and her guardian might not have the wherewithal to move. But it’s so sad that Bear has to go through this confusing change at that age. It’s so stressful.

@@angel1202003 I don’t know what your point is. My post wasn’t about Bear specifically, which is why I said “…such a service wouldn’t help Bear - she really can’t do those stairs…” MY point is that there’s a service that helps elderly people stay with their dogs that might also be elderly, and this video prompted me to volunteer. And yes - it does matter to the dog when the people and places it’s known for years totally disappears. Dogs do feel separation anxiety, attachment anxiety, and depression.

The Dog Rescuers is hands down my favorite show! It is sooo well done both on the social side as well as on the cinematography! No unnecessary scripting or drama. You tell the real stories with respect to everyone who deserves it and when someone doesn't you merely express your opinion in a none offensive way. I always hate when shows drag previous owners through the mud without ever mentioning their reasoning. You do not do so. You explain what is happening and most importantly why if you at all can. And i think that is because the RSPCA has seen so much of "the other side" - namely the previous owners fates in life. I can only express my deepest respect and a big thank you for showing the rest of the world!

I love these rescue stories..hope they all have good home, forever homes. They all deserve it❤ I suspect that Bear has osteoarthritis?..the dog has clear pains. Pains are often still put under the word "old age" even though a 10-year-old dog is not yet old, but a little past middle age. We once had a 13-year-old granny dog who was just the same when coming to us as a house changer. The vets only concluded from the blood tests and tests that the dog is old and therefore sleeps a lot and doesn't mind going for long runs. After the dog changed to raw food, the dog cheered up considerably and lost weight to the ideal weight, but was just as stiff as Bear. Finally, after 1/2 year we took her to specialist because we didn't think that the reason was just "old age" because the dog's look was similar to Bear's, squinting her eyes and walking stiffly, slowly. So we went to an orthopedic specialist vet that exam the dog nose to tail, took hole body x-ray and diagnose was: dog had advanced polyarthritis and spondylosis(had been many years), which previous ordinary vets had not been able to diagnose despite the examinations. After receiving the correct diagnosis, we added cartilage bones, rosehip powder, large doses of vitamin C and hemp seed oil and fish oil to the diet, she also had homeopathics. The dog became like a puppy again about after 2 months this diet, his eyes came alive and he ran more than 10-15 km every day and no one came to believe that it was a 13-year-old dog, but everyone thought the dog was 3-4 years old. I hope that Bear's new owners would take Bear to specialist vet and try an arthritis diet and pain medication if he have osteoarthritis. I would believe that Bear would change much more cheerful because there would be no pain🐶❤🐾

Oh man... I couldn't deal with the guy rehoming bear 😔 he was doing the right thing though... But damn!!! She was a great dog, stuck with him & kept him going while being homeless & everything... If she was mine, I would gladly carry her down the stairs if I had to !! I get it though, I'm sure he also thought of that and probably couldn't..

I absolutely love this show. I'm in the US but I think this show is astronomically good. It is truthful yet it makes you feel good too. I was totally shocked to find out if you adopt a dog their food is provided for the rest of their life do I have that right? The host is wonderful just everybody is awesome

So sad about Skye's malignant tumors. Not a huge surprise though. In 2016, my 11-year-old Labrador-Rottie cross (who I rescued from Hurricane Katrina) unexpectedly developed an aggressive malignant, and inoperable brain tumor. All I could do was palliative, making sure she had no pain, keep her comfortable, and be her constant companion for the few months she had left. It was a very helpless feeling knowing there was nothing that could save her. She finally communicated to me in her doggie way that she was tired, and ready to go on ahead of me, so I had to let go. I miss her and hope she is there waiting for me when it is my time ready to greet me again.
