Oaty banana drop scones | Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall
In this exclusive new series for River Cottage Food Tube, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall offers nifty and creative ideas to transform leftovers into irresistible meals.
"I’m a big fan of drop scones served buttered, with fat slices of banana and a sprinkling of cinnamon on top," he says.
"We often have them for weekend family breakfasts or cosy Sunday teas.
"But when I have some brown, speckled, softening bananas that aren’t quite up to being showcased in that way, I like to fold them into the scone batter so I can still capitalise on all their lovely, fruity flavour."
His new book, ‘Love your Leftovers’ is packed with practical advice for cooking on a weekly basis with leftovers in mind - helping to save money and avoid waste.
With recipes for transforming leftover meat into Chilli beef noodles, Stew enchiladas, Spicy chicken salad with peanut butter dressing; surplus root vegetables into Roast root hummus, Quick lentil and parsnip curry and Beetroot and caraway seed cake; and spare eggs into Hazelnut remoulade and easy Macarons, this is the ultimate companion for everyone’s kitchen.

"That tantalizing smell of slightly caramelized banana" Drooling now.
This is absolutely fantastic. If I were to listen to FoodTubers, I'd just be cooking and eating all day. I
I love using up ripe old bananas for pancakes too! I could almost smell them caramelising whilst watching!
These were sooo good😊
I've made this twice, this is absolutely delicious!! My 2 year old just eats in one go... and I love the fact that there is oats. We all love it and I'll keep this video from now on! Thank you!! :) x
Hugh you are a genius , I made the drop scones and everybody though they were great ,thanks
Waiting for your cookbook...any day now! so enjoy your channel...thanks for the recipe, this one is a keeper!
Just tried to make them this morning - incredible, and so easy (from a nervous cook).
looks super yummy!
okay this recipe looks easy enough for me to try them
Looks delicious Hugh! Will definitely try it out.. although the problem is I always eat my bananas no matter what they look like..!
My sweetie makes a vegan version of this that is also gluten free and they are delicious and are perfect anytime.
Where I come from this is a drop scone I remember making them with my mum in the 80s . Maybe where you come from its a pancake but just remember the whole world doesn't revolve around you.

Seems a bit rude, there... As people call the same thing by different names all over the world and it was not said in a corrective or rude manner, and someone from Scotland called them the same thing. Either way it appeared to bring up yummy memories for all 3 of you. How about some warm yummy banana "whatever you want to call them" and get your belly full of warm comfy feelings and feel the love for all the people who make good food to share with us ?

I love you, hugh
Looks yum. Mind you, overripe bananas are the best for banana bread or smoothies.

Mmmmm looks yummy though will be veganising them to make them healthy.
Well I’ve just eaten my tea but know I’m hungry 😋 so off to the shops it’s cake time 🤦♂️.

+Susan Nguyen No Scottish!
I'm in Australia, where can I get this book?
How about adding a little sprinkle of cinnamon into the batter?
This can be made vegan by replacing milk with non-dairy milk. Soaked chia seeds in non-dairy milk instead of egg. Vegan butter instead of butter.
what brand is the cream mixing bowl Hugh uses?

It's a long time since you asked this question, but I have a couple of bowls in the same style. It might be a potter called Barrington. The shop I bought them in no longer exists, but was from the same area as River Cottage HQ.

+illtellulatta03 In Australia we call them piklets. Pancakes are bigger. These are very popular in Australia for a mid morning or afternoon snack, with or without the oats and honey. We usually serve them cold, with jam (jelly) and cream, or butter and honey.

In the UK, at least in my area, a pikelet is another name for a crumpet.
... one thing i don't get: why's that a scone and not a pancake? :D seems more like a pancake to me haha
Errrr.....pancakes.

No, drop scone should be baked. This is made in a PAN. This is nothing remotely scone like.
