Couldn't agree more. I hit the truckee several times per week and it's a rocky river. It's common to catch a rock and if your oar won't release you're gonna flip or break an oar. Having oar locks that bend is crucial. It happened today!

I like the angle on your video. Haven't really put that much thought into Sawyer A or the nrs options. I've run big water with pins and clips and with oar locks. I should check out those. Thanks for the tips.

Hey Zac. Love your show man. Keep it up. Just FYI with the cobras, I have tuned them a few times on the river bank. It does take a bit of force. Laying them against a rock and using another rock as a hammer to beat on them. That works to to make them tighter. To make the opening between the horns wider, I have found needs to be done at home in the garage. I’m sure it can be done in the field but this is my experience. Clamp the post in a vise and using pipe that is just large enough to fit over the horns you can spread the horns open larger.

Flip dangles! Lol! I run threaded cobras (with a locknut) for 2 reasons; they’re more anti theft (oarlock theft is a real thing), and I don’t like them traveling up and down. I have to be careful not to be lazy with my downstream oar on the cobras. I do like the geometry of the “A”. Great thoughts Zach

I run the same and have tuned them to my oars with a mallet against a hard surface. I like to stand and row at times, to stretch or get a better view downstream, and the cobras help with that. But I can see the Sawyer A being fine too. You probably need a spare set if doing multiday so get both!

@@GearGarageTV early testing return: a cataract oar will pop out, but the oar lock will chip the coating on the oar. I’m beginning to understand why you prefer the Sawyers.

Kinda a weak attempt to tune the cobra, they are easily adjustable in the field (using the same rock and or leverage technique) and do not go vertical like demonstrated if they are actually tuned to your oar.
