No one sings like this anymore. It is just pure harmony and sung from the heart. Gospel can be so compelling to listen to. I was not raised in southern gospel but I just love all the wonderful gospel stars like James Blackwood, Jake Hess, JD Sumner, and so many many others. I am posting these groups on my favorites in hopes that others will listen to these wonderful voices. Thanks Adkinsda for posting this great music.

I just wish that we had these boys to listen to today, instead of what I hear on the radio and in concerts. One of my favorite quartets.

Great lineup. Willie, Smitty, Bill, Herman, and Tommy Fairchild on piano. I just love Willie Wynn... what a great tenor.

Thanks Dean! I've heard Smitty on recordings many times, but had never actually seen him in action. A true great!

When I fail along my way And I stop to kneel and pray Does my Jesus care for me When the long night is dreary And my way gets so weary Oh yes, I know He cares for me No one ever cared for me like my Jesus There's no other friend as fine oh, as He No one else could take this old sin and sorrow from me Oh how much He cares for me .......................................................... I would love to tell you what I think of Jesus, Since I found in Him a friend so strong and true; I would tell you how He changed my life completely, He did something that no other friend could do. No one ever cared for me like Jesus, There's no other friend so kind as He; No one else could take the sin and darkness from me, O how much He cared for me. All my life was full of sin when Jesus found me, All my heart was full of misery and woe; Jesus placed His strong and loving arms about me, And He led me in the way I ought to go. No one ever cared for me like Jesus, There's no other friend so kind as He; No one else could take the sin and darkness from me, O how much He cared for me. Ev'ry day He comes to me with new assurance, More and more I understand His words of love; But I'll never know just why He came to save me, Till some day I see His blessed face above. No one ever cared for me like Jesus, There's no other friend so kind as He; No one else could take the sin and darkness from me, O how much He cared for me.

My church does the fast pace songs to attract the young but I miss the gold standard like this song. Keep in mind churches that it is those over 50 that put the most money into the church.

Wow!!! Great song! I've always loved the early Oak Ridge Boys, but this is the first time I've heard them do this song. Really awesome!

This is incredible! Far, far surpasses many of the quartets that are out there today! Yes, we still have some good groups singing, but these guys had something SPECIAL! Thanks for a great song featuring Smitty Gatlin. Also fun to hear a young Tommy Fairchild at the piano; thankfully, he is still playing the gospel to this very day! I was fortunate to be able to take a few lessons from him at the Stamps School of Music way back in the early 70s. MoJoPiano

I can remember singing "To Know" with my brothers as a kid...my mom had an 8 track of the Trio. IIRC, it also had several patriotic selections on it as well. Childhood was filled with lots of great Gospel music, and Smitty was a big part of that. What I wouldn't give to have "To Know" and all of Smittys stuff on CD now!! (hint, hint...just in case anybody knows how I CAN)!! And oh yeah, I love this song and video...I watch it almost every day.

This is one of my all-time favorites! By the way Smitty Gatlin (lead) and Herman Harper (bass) are the only two members of this Oak Ridge Boys lineup that are deceased. It's good to hear that Little Wille Wynn is still singing. Tommy Fairchild (piano) is still arranging and playing quartet music. Bill Golden (baritone) is in the current lineup of the Oak Ridge Boys - now known as "William Lee" Golden with the looonng gray beard.

Herman Harper....what a bass! If you listen, he sounds very much like Chief on the low end. As bigmrclean says, bassy.

I love this video too! The Harmony is so calming and tranquil... I agree with you steverino47, I have to sometimes watch this video at the end of my day. I contacted Little Willy sometime last year through email to tell him his song was on You Tube. He did not know that.. Lol. He said he was in a group in Florida and had a Cd out. I guess he is the only surviving member of this gospel group..

You have to turn it up really loud, but this is awesome. Smitty did so many cool "curly cue" things with the melody and made it awesome!
