When I work with clients, one of the first resources I point them toward is O*Net Online (www.onetonline.org/). This is an underutilized resource, primarily because it is not well known!
Using O*Net, you not only have access to free job search assessments, but you can dive deep into what a particular job looks like (and what it pays!!) so you can determine if you are interested in that job in the first place.
If you are interested, you can use this resource to research what you need to know to be successful in that field, what keywords and phrases you can add to your resume, cover letter, and use during an interview, and you can also use O*Net to conduct vital research on salary data in that field. This will help you significantly during the salary negotiation process!
