Even today a lot are not celebrating the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They don't think their sins are anything to be saved from. They've not accepted the love of God. They do not know that they don't have to carry the burden of hurt and trauma. They don't believe God is mighty to save. Emmanuel has come and will come again. This is a reminder to me to rejoice, be glad. I'm happy that I believe but sad that not all do.

These precious young people worshiping Jesus make my 70 year old heart so happy! They are all just beautiful.

Have you ever wondered where songs like O come, O come Emmanuel come from and what they mean? I think this is one of the coolest stories of the season: Imagine winter in 15th-century Europe: snow-capped mountains and castles, layers of fur and bustling townspeople, and the scent of burning oak traveling through the crisp December air. Now listen for a moment and you can hear the melody gently resonating from the stone halls of a Franciscan monastery presiding over the village. The custom was for the monks to spend the week before Christmas focusing their hearts and minds on how precious the coming of Christ truly was. A large part of this tradition was chanting/singing the antiphons: daily themes each focusing on an aspect of the coming of Christ. The would start with "Oh come O come" followed by: O Sapientia (Wisdom), O Adonai (Hebrew word for God), O Radix Jesse (stem or root of Jesse), O Clavis David (key of David), O Oriens (dayspring), O Rex Gentium (King of the Gentiles) Each of these is fascinating on their own, as they tell the story of mankind waiting for the messiah to come. These are prayers asking for God to send the redeemer. Then, on Christmas Eve the song would change one last time. From the halls of the monastery, the mournful melody of a funeral procession would begin and would continue for 24 hours. The song they sang was a prayer begging one last time for God to save his people: "O come, O come, Emmanuel, And ransom captive Israel, That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appears. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel." The Emmanuel Antiphon is meant to display the gravity of the plight of humanity before the birth of Christ. Imagine what existence was before Jesus: mournful, desperate, separated from God with no hope of except that God would come down and be with us once more. I can only imagine the anticipation that would build in the town as Christmas Eve passed. I think it mirrored the same anticipation felt the day Jesus was born. Think about it. That day before Jesus is born, the existence of mankind is coming to a crescendo as creation pleads for God to come be with us once more. The coolest part for me is the Antiphons ended promptly at midnight on Christmas eve because there was no more need for the funeral processional, the tears, or desperation because those prayers were answered when Jesus was born! On Christmas day the melody would change dramatically to songs of jubilation like Hark the Harold Angels Sing because God was finally with us (Emmanuel). Merry Christmas!

hi :) they knew about about God. i think joe was referring to how before Jesus Christ came, there was a 400 year gap between the last prophet and Jesus. that's why they were "lost, confused, abused, and waiting desperately for someone to help." yeah it must have been scary, but they knew about Yahweh.
