I think the requirement should be this to keep a public license: Any correction (apart from very mild ones that don't really change the story) have to be aired at the same time slot and for the same duration of the original story that was incorrect. Same thing for newspaper story placement/length. Bad news if e.g. MSNBC ran fake news for 10 hours during prime time, but it would be incentive for them to get it right and be skeptical of unsubstantiated claims.
