It’s not always about the amount of the salary! Yes a bedside nurse can make alottttt but you are literally stressed and overworked! I rather have a 9-5 have every weekend off and all holidays off! I rather do my assessments, prescribe medications and not be running a floor for 12 hours!!

I plan on becoming a FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) and work in outpatient family clinics 9-5 and have weekends off! I feel like it would be a less emotionally demanding job and more of healthy on the mind.

NP residency for 1 year which was 70K, a huge sacrifice as I was an RN for nearly 20 years and was earning over 100K 10 years ago. After NP residency, the initial salary was 120K, and by the end of that year 123K plus, the following year 124K plus, then boom 146K with a potential for 154K plus this year based on a quality project. We have about 320 hours of PTO per year, CME 3K (takes care of DEA, license renewal, etc)+ 40 hours for conferences which can be online or elsewhere. We are salaried, and lunch is as you go-since we work 12-hour shifts. 401K is a 6% company match, Roth 6% company match, and pension per company once you hit 3 years and are considered vested. My NP Psych colleagues and hospitalists are in the 160K to 180K plus range. Forgot to mention life insurance is 2x your pay, medical is free for the employee with $300 for the entire family. We are military so Tricare is still free and get paid extra for not taking medical and dental. Shhh! Don't tell anyone:)) but let them know - God is good:))

I made 111, 000 as a new grad NP and now make 137,000 a year base but with bonuses and other money opportunities throughout the year from my organization, I will make $145,000. Plus I am reimbursed for my licenses, supplies such as stethoscopes and scrubs/shoes if I choose to wear them which I sometimes do and membership on professional organizations. Plus I get 7 weeks vacation and a couple of thousand a year to earn CEs which I sometimes use to take my husband and myself on trips. I would love to make more of course but I certainly make more as an NP than I did as an RN with no shifts/weekends/nights/holidays and much less physically demanding.

When I started searching for jobs, most of the the NPs I knew were Family and I didn’t know anyone with my specialty. Some think that discussing salaries is taboo, but how else will NPs start getting paid their worth if we don’t discuss it? Keep sharing and helping others. I think we work in the same city 💕

I live in Atlanta and just got accepted into FNP program at Georgia State so I’ve been researching scope of practice laws and salary etc; I’ve been having a hard time after Covid because as a travel nurse I averaged 160k a year for 2 years straight. Now as a local travel nurse I make about $45-$55 an hour working PRN jobs and I’ve been learning how to make “regular” money again . Bedside nursing is exhausting and I was assaulted by a patient last week I said this is why I am done . So as I take my journey to NP I’m needing to learn about how to negotiate my salary. Thank you so much for the transparency and the information you are very beautiful and we need more black NPs in women’s health to advocate for us. Thank you again.

I’m happy for you. Something that a lot of us NPs, especially Family NPs are doing is opening their own practice with a covering physician. The physician just has to cover the practice and you include him or her on what your practice brings in. Many NPs are starting their own businesses. One thing that is big here in Michigan is infusion clinics and weight loss clinics, therefore you can set your own rate; income. No longer are nurses/NPs working for someone else.

It might be a good way for you to reduce your taxes. If your company offers a Roth 401k, even better. But you won’t get the tax benefits now; at withdrawal time, though, you won’t be taxed. I hope that you’re at least fully funding your Roth IRA or that you have some real estate investments or preferably both.

I’m the DMV area starting minimum is $47-$50 and some change as a new graduate. By the time I graduate next year May 2024 minimum should be $39 and some change. So I am looking for my minimum to be $45 due to my previous medical background and I’ll just be changing departments so they would owe me my regular annual raise. So I will ask for $50 and hope at the end of the day I can get $45/hr as a new graduate Cardiovascular Technologist in Maryland!

❤❤ thank you so much for the transparency and information it’s very helpful as someone heading back to NP school and even though people say you can make that at bedside it’s the NP lifestyle that I’m after as well as additional autonomy and PTO congrats 🎊 on all of you achievements. After being in the field for sometime now would you still specialize as a WHNP or choose FNP but work in the specialty?

I would still do WHNP. my nursing career has always been in women’s health. I don’t have much interest in other specialties.

Damn. I’m a Dental Hygienist making $45hr. Didn’t know I made just as much as a base NP . I also registered for RN school. I grad 2/25. My plan is to not work full time either one but to work enough to live a great life spiritually and frugally. I love the ideal of temp contracts and the possibility to do some overtime.

Yes girl, their are associates degrees in the medical field that actually make money like your position, the imaging department’s such as X-ray, CT, MRI, and all the other modalities, and even what I’m going for which is cardiovascular technology. You can graduate with little to no debt easily with a good paying associate degree. So no need to go to school and work on experience for years when you can practically make good income off the back and get the experience and make more than a graduate degree person. Team Technologist and Associate Degree here!!!

@@dpaper7962i agree with you that there are associates that earn a good living, however to make it into the six figures without busting your tush 6 days a week- its graduate level for healthcare providers. NP in NYC are earning an amazing living working only 3 days a week

Hi I'm currently a student but thinking of going into nurse practitioner ,wow you earn alot and have alot of great benefits so I'm really tempted , What do you think the downsides are , As I want to make sure I don't overlook anything , do you think there's much chance the market will be oversaturated and the pay decrease , and do you think your ever pushed to be unethical and charge people for things that don't need ect as these are my two main wories

I make more than this as a regular nurse with 13 years experience and working 1 job. I made $119,000 last year. Tracking for $125,000 to $130,000 this year. I work 1 or 2 extra 12 hour shifts in a 2 week period. Normally work 84-96 hours in 2 weeks.

I passed my pmhnp last December and just got a first job offer here in San Diego. There were two job offers: 1. Outpatient psych clinic (10h shift x 4 days a week): $78/h 2. Outpatient psych clinic and mobile psych service (8h shift x 5 days a week): $94/h Obviously for the higher salary reason, I took option 2 as my first pmhnp job❤
