"Number 1" is an old favorite in the Robin Nolan Trio repertoire and it's actually the first tune I wrote in the Gypsy Jazz genre back in 1996. It always seems to go down well with the audience and Thursday night was no exception! I could here a few "Yesssss's" in the room when we played the opening riff.
The chord sequence is classic and the melody simple, and with the driving Latin rhythm of my brother Kevin, the tune rocks nicely. I opted for the extended ending in this version and enjoyed playing over the turnaround until arriving at 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' to bring it to a close.
