I have the 49 key version coming for Christmas and I am so excited as I have been wanting a MIDI keyboard for 20 years now and I don't even play (too many years since I played an instrument (a Trumpet) that I have forgotten most of what I knew) but this thing looks like it will do everything I need. The only downside I see is the lack of endless knobs.

I recently bought a Roland FA-06 for the fun of it and have only the tiniest understanding of how it works. So, watching you work with the Novation Launchkey and the DAW I quick realize I'm in the presence of real genius. My head turned to stone the first time you twisted a dial and now I'm quite sure now that I will never quite figure out how to get this damn Roland to faithfully record or save my little recordings without introducing other instruments into the mix. No matter. I think you are a genius and quite probably a National Treasure.

I went for the Launchkey 37 It's amazing lightning fast editing/responsiveness of the drumpads the keybed is alright overall worth every pence I love the 37 key version no unnecessary controls no setup nothing. You just plug it in and it has a built-in storage/memory so you can edit/upload your controller presets/custom presets Straight away you register with Novation I updated the firmware everything's so cool so good I'm very happy with LK 37 the only thing which is missing is a power button so when you are not using it you can't turn it off BUT you can disable the "RGB light demo" and you can turn down the brightness all the way down so it's not going to annoy you when it's not in use.

Leaving a little comment just to say that it's *very* entertaining and enriching to see you use, think and work with your software+hardware ^^ I spent the last two days watching demo of MIDI controllers for Ableton, to find which one would match my workflow. The match is currently tied between the Novation 61SL and the Arturia Keylab 61 MK2, but the former looks like to win in terms of Live integration and session workflow.

MAKE SURE THAT THE ARPEGGIATOR WORKS IN SYNC WITH YOUR DAW BEFORE BUYING THIS ! i bought the novation launchkey mk3 because of the promising arpeggiator, but to my surprise it does not sync with Ableton. When the play button is on while trying to play chords with the arpeggiator on the first 2 notes are played together in the begining and there are inconistencies in the quantisation of the notes. When the play button is off and the keyboard uses its own clock the arpeggiated chords are played as they should. This means that the arpeggiator is unusable in ableton. After lots of emails with novation they answered with this.. "The best way to perfectly sync an arp to Ableton would be to use Ableton itself. I.e. trigger clips with arp patterns in or use the arp device mapped to the Launchkey controls. The arp on the Launchkey is great for a live scenario that doesn't require perfect synchronisation with Ableton, but less so if you need it to be perfectly in time with other Ableton clips. This is because it does not account for human error. " AND "Yes, this is possible (to play 2 synced arpeggiated chords) but it requires you to be very accurate with the re-triggering of the chord. There's no way to 'queue' the next chord so you would need to play it as on beat as possible. If you need to to do this with consistently perfect precision, it may be easier to use Live to trigger prerecorded MIDI clips." I have been very patient with this matter but if there is no solution to this and if Novation does not plan on fixing this then its time i sell this keyboard and buy another one from another company that the arpeggiator actually works in sync with a DAW. Im actually surprised that people did not notice this problem ! Feel free to offer a solution if you have one :)

A critical note. I think MIDI-controllers this year all look the same, and, more important, unimaginative; plain black square boxes with sharp edges and corners (which can be good, but in this case they aren't). I'd like to see a bit more creativity, a bit more personality, a bit more courage in them. There is nothing endearing in these kind of designs. And let's not forget music IS about creativity, personality and courage. A bit of soul wouldn't harm the looks of your tools. I bought my Novation SL MkII purely because of the looks, the beauty. Even when it's off. And I love my Akai and iRigs for the same reasons. Arturia tries, but doesn't fully succeed. But these recent keyboards (including the NIs) look dead when they're off. I would buy them only out of necessity. But, admitted, they bring people to life, judging by the videos ;-)

totally agree, angular matt black slabs are the design template of 2020, and I would appreciate a new color palette!

Woody Piano Shack I don’t mind the design, I quite like the black angular look. It looks a bit like a Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol.

Total opposite here. I thought the SL mk2 was borderline hideous, but I absolutely love the minimalist black box approach. I guess my philosophy on the matter is that I'd rather my tools feel totally neutral. Giving them too much aesthetic personality just creates the opportunity for it to clash with the environment it sits in, the person using it, or the music they're making in a given moment. Obviously that's just my take on it and not everyone will agree, but it's a good time to have this outlook :)
