When I first heard the no bye week deal I thought it was unfair but as has been pointed out... Teams in the top 4 would all have had to win a 13th game in the conference championship as opposed to Notre Dame having only played 12. Seems about as fair as in can be it can be..

In reality, none of the conferences have an "automatic" bid. It's the the 5 highest ranked conference champs. Likely that will be the power 4 + a group of 5, but that isn't guaranteed.

The first time I heard someone call ND irrelevant was back in 2008, after the disastrous 2007 year (only two years removed from being a title contender with Quinn and Samardzija), because at that time, they were 20 years removed from its last national championship. It's now been 20 years since USC has won it all; I wonder if anyone is going to call them irrelevant.

It's just Stephen A taking 4 mins of his time to tell us we're irrelevant. He doesn't recognize the irony.

Was at the game last night with my 2 boys. Did not expect to be cheering from Braedan 3 to start the game until the buzzer! Out of the couple thousand who attended I would say 1k were ND fans. Coach and Braedan stayed late talking with family and friends which gave my boys an opportunity to get a pic with both of them! Genuinely good people. Go 🍀

I have friends that are ND fans. I have been bringing up the idea of ND joining the BIG10. Their response is always that ND would lose money. As a sports fan, I could care less about how much money ND or any school makes. I see ND playing Michigan, ohio state, Penn State, Indiana, MSU, and other BIG10 schools as a great thing. But college football is changing and it’s all about the Benjamins! NIL and the Transfer Portal are reshaping the sport. ND needs to join a conference and endure a schedule that affects conference standings in making it into whatever playoff format is chosen. ND fans more obese ssed with their TV contract rather than a great schedule with important games.

Why is playoff expansion even an issue for the SEC and Big10? Won’t they get all of the 7 at large bids already?

I follow your logic about Notre Dame‘s path through the playoffs. I think you’re making an assumption that I do not agree with: that the loser of the conference championship games will not make the playoff. In Notre Dame‘s case that first playoff game is an elimination game and that’s not going to be the case in all of the conference championship games.

I would think that the chances of teams making the playoffs should be taken out of committee hands and put into the hands of the players. The top 12 ranked teams should make it in. That’s it.

Stephen A Is hilarious he is a known huge Knicks fan they haven't won a championship since 73 and last finals appearance not even in this century 1999. ND last championship 88 and multiple chances at titles in the last 15 years. 2012 BCS and two playoff appearances. So Stephen A should just really say by his standards his own team is not relevant.

just get into a conference. Anyone Big East if your afraid to play in a tougher one. Or just gamble. which is what you will do. I like ND, just can see it is time to get into a conference.

Notre Dame is in a conference. You belong to the a c c you're contractually obligated To play 5 ACC teams that's only 3 less conference games than the SEC. Notre Dame is a member of the ACC football conference. No matter what there stupid fan base thinks
