Rapid Fire: Stephen A. Smith's Notre Dame Rant, Notre Dame CFP Confusion

Спорт

Rapid Fire topics include:
* Fill-in the blank...All of the uproar about Notre Dame never being able to get a first round College Football Playoff bye after the new 12-team format was finalized yesterday is BLANK.
* Stephen A. Smith went on a “Why is Notre Dame relevant considering they haven’t won a championship in 36 years” rant on TV today. We have our answers to his simplistic question.
* Fill-in the blank...it’s BLANK that the ACC has approved the use of helmet technology and sideline tablets during games this season.
* JJ Watt wants to see more holding flags thrown on offensive linemen trying to block defensive players. He says the way to do it is to reduce the penalty from holding from 10 yards to five yards. He says if you do that it’s more likely to be called more fairly because it’s not as crippling to the offense. Do you Buy or Sell it?
* A college basketball writer says if the Super Bowl can kickoff at 6:30, why does the NCAA men’s basketball national championship game not tip until 9:20. What would we do with college basketball’s title game?

Notre Dame is RELEVANT because either you LOVE Notre Dame or you Hate them! And if you are a Fan of Notre Dame, you going to watch them to see them WIN! If you hate Notre Dame, then you are going to watch just to see them lose! Either way it goes, your going to watch them!

When will people realize "reporters" at ESPN are nothing more than professional trolls? Stephen A and Finebaum exist only at ESPN to stir up fans' emotions to build that connection, not for quality journalism. "I hate/love that guy. What will he say next?" FInebaum's show is nothing more than idiots calling in and basically embarrassing themselves on air. With Saban gone, I imagine his days are numbered.

Also guys if u think about it like this. Notre dame doesn’t play the conf champ. So we can’t have a loss to bump as down to not host a home game. So it’s even better for notre dame when u think of it like that.

I am a Gen Xer. The Michigan Notre Dame Rivalry used to be huge. ND messed that up by choosing to not Play it and also run to the ACC. Most of their rivals are in the Big 10, USC, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana, Penn State. OSU should have been a border rival, and that would be a great rivalry. Not being in the Big 10 is stupid. And hurts then, not the Big 10. The Big 10 is doing very well without them since it's conception.

Hey genius, every school in the country would be independent if they could. Every single one. ND doesn’t need Big 16

There will also be a conference championship game loser or two who may be in the playoffs as well. Those poor fellas will have to play 17 games to be champions

@MichaeLMahoney-kr8sg hey not a genius. The longer ND remains independent the more money they lose. NO INDEPENDENT TEAM makes SEC or Big 10 revenue. Vanderbilt is making more yearly than ND. Let that sink in!!! That silly way of thinking is why ND will have to join a conference soon. 🤔

@@DrewAndrewsI’m GenX too. Yes it was a huge rivalry w Nat title hopes on the line. I remember when refs called 15 yard personal foul penalties on the crowd in South Bend for being too loud against Michigan. You know damn well ND will play anybody, anytime. They didn’t run from Michigan and why didn’t Michigan let em in the BIG when ND tried to join? Also, I don’t think Notre Dame is worried about money, lol

Notre dame just signed one of the biggest tv deals with nbc and they don’t have to share the revenue with anyone because they’re independent. You also have to take into account how small their student body is compared to big ten and sec schools so nd can pocket way more of the money, not to mention they are a national brand with some of the wealthiest alumni. Also, the autonomy of being independent far outweighs being in a conference because nd can make their own schedules and they don’t have to play in a conference championship game, so if they have the ability to stay independent why wouldn’t they? Not saying that they never will, but it’s definitely not happening anytime “soon”.

All the more reason to soften up the schedule now and go for a championship. We no longer have to schedule one of the most difficult schedules in the country to make it to the playoffs.

FSU fans video are now claiming that ND has decided to join the B1G! While I wouldn't be surprised that this was being considered, the timing seems off. So, any truth to this or was this just a case of another guy out to get clicks?

No rules need to be changed the officiating crew needs to enforce the rules that are all ready on the books. The Ravens said that KC was holding the whole game which they were. Before the Superbowl the media asked Nick Bosa about the KC offensive line and he said all they do is hold. Fast forward to the Superbowl all they did was hold and they got away with it.

Notre Dame is relevant. Just not in football, although they have a wonderful opportunity to be back to back Tony the Tiger Bowl champions.

Notre Dame should have joined the Big 10 twenty five years ago. Now the B10 doesn't want or need ND. But hey we've got our vaunted "Independence" which apparently means we are not actually "Independent" but attached at the hip to the worst P5 conference in the land. Great work Jack.

Doesn't need them, but yes, the Big 10 does want ND. ND better join though before the window permanently closes.
