    Appreciate this discussion, I was always wondering if there was a theoretical limit on Voltage other than RPM/volt. I have always tried for around a RPM around up to half the max recommended RPM allowed. my favorite RPM was always around 25K if i could gear properly. For example I have an Arrma Big Rock, it's good stock, but limited to 3s max (3200KV 3660 I think). My eventual plan is to swap in a similar sized (maybe a few MM's shorter to save weight), 1200 KV motor and run 6s setup (Upgraded ESC of course). Why would i consider this? because on 6s, a 1200 KV will be running around 26K RPM while the current setup is running 35K RPM By dropping the RPM for similar work I'm trying to make it more efficient and allow a slightly smaller 6s pack (more closer to like a 3k or 3300 mah) as opposed to larger 3s packs (currently 5500 mah). The lower RPM while geared similarly in speed, will allow the motor to run cooler while doing the same work. Using the voltage to make the power over the current, makes the overall setup more efficient, allowing for similar to even boosted runtimes, Vs the 3s setup. At least this is what i'm aiming for from a previous project using a similar setup. Another advantage I'm hoping for, is getting rid of at least the fan on the motor. We used to never run fans, on either the esc or motor and still made great power

    Alternatively, halving your gear ratio should double the mechanical advantage it affords - allowing the motor to spin twice as fast while only drawing half as many amps.

    Thanks for this information sir, I have a stock Arrma Granite v3 and the motor overheats insanely... even with the stock fan over the motor always engaged... Then I must to stop running it to allow to cool down for some minutes... I worried about that because I'm running a Turnigy Graphene batteries (3S 75C discharge 5000mAh, green ones) and I was thinking the batteries are too much C discharge rate, could be the cause of overheating of stock Arrma Granite motor? Thank you so much

    @@evoxer87 The quickest fix would be setting a 70% throttle cap in your radio if has that feature, but a more ideal solution would still be reducing the gear ratio in the car so it delivers more torque at the axle for every amp it uses. (Note, however, that the car will have a lower top speed either way.)

    @@Mark-4158, Might work on the motor, but could cause problems for the esc, These esc's are designed to run at 100% otherwise they will overheat. also if undergeared too muchwill cause the same issue due to the RPM's maxxing out. Esc's have two modes, PMW (part throttle) and 100% (fully engaged circuit) if the esc is run in PMW for too long it can overheat due to the FET's switching off and no constantly. Also 70% throttle will hurt the overall efficiency (Runtime) of the esc and the whole setup

    @@evoxer87. If you are geared at the same as my truck (arrma big rock), it's 15/37. I have also considered dropping two teeth on the pinion (13 from 15) you will lose a little top speed, but it will make it easier on your motor

    This is very familiar to me, check max rpm motor can handle, multiply kv x voltage used to determine the maximum rpm it will run at with a lipo battery, ive learned thanks to u ryan, dont over rev a motor with more voltage than it can handle.

    Question, I have a new brushless motors and need help understanding them more please, btw love your videos on all the info you put out, I been loading in all the info I can to understand more, anyways motor "A" is rated for 16.2 volts max and 332A max, with a max rpms of 75,000, 3210Kv, can size is 3.55inches long and 1.80inches wide, "would this motor be safe to run on 6s with 15lbs weight at speeds of +60mph? and is power output correct?" plz help Motor "B" is 11 volts max, 298A max, with a max of 120,000 rpms, 9500Kv, can size 2.45inches long, 1.80inches wides. please help. Motor getting installed into Losi 8ight 2.0 for speed runs. Sorry to ask for lots but sure need helping understanding my power outputs. Keep up the great work. Love what your doing.

    Hi, im looking to build an electric skateboard how should i pair a motor esc battery? Check esc max amp first then calculate battery? Motor says it can handle 60A but battery is 120A, esc is 150A dont know alot about RC trying to figure this out

  • @stuntzbelowzero7255

    btw, motor "A" IS MEGA HARD TO TWIST THE SHAFT WITH FINGERS, literally have to try all my strength to twist once, then when the car is on the ground with nothing turned on, tires dont budge not even once, literally have to put weight to spin tires, gears and or spur/pinion gear not binding, I check 3times. I never tried the motor yet, still in the middle of my builds and waiting for 3 and 6s esc's. This motor is installed into my E-Revo 2.0.

    What would be the most effecting combination of battery to Motor for a large tugboat.

  • @RCexplained

    @RCexplained

    Depends more specifically as to what your performance goals are. I would suggest going with an outrunner to get a low Kv motor in order to spin the prop much slower. Power demand for a tugboat should be much lower in general. Using a larger prop on a tugboat is important to get the thrust that a tugboat needs.
