That's why Spider-Man is so badass, he was trained by (dramatic pause) Lucas [chicka chickaaaa].

I think I know why everyone in the movie acts so weird. It's because the movie is told from a kid's point of view. The late-80s and early-90s seem to have this "kids rule, grown-ups drool" mentality, and when it came to Nintendo, kids were experts and grown-ups were stupidheads that were stuck in the '60s and don't know a thing about Nintendo. The kids in this movie talk like professionals because that's how kids viewed themselves. The adults act strange because, let's face it, kids think adults don't know what being cool really is.

Explains alot about the world we know now though. Although i do feel it does not explain why the stuck up white business men were playing arcade games in that one scene lol.

To be fair, Lucas said he had "97 games". Assuming the average cost of each game was $40 when the movie came out (1989), we can assume that his parents spoiled him rotten. 97 x $40 = $3880 Adjust for inflation from 1989 to today...$7454.92 That's on GAMES ALONE. Throw in the cost of the Power Glove, the NES itself, and Lucas truly is one of the Immortals.

And BTW, though the movie is bad mostly (I'd say it's ok, not bad), it has one scene that's bloody hilarious. Where the girl says the guy that's after the kids sexually harassed here and how, getting the security in, is funny as hell. As a kid, I was confused, but now I can't help but laugh. Just like Doug has to hold it together for I WAS FROZEN TODAY!

I actually like this movie. not because of the actors but the fact that seeing kids playing Mario bros 3 in a tournament was awesome.

I remember getting a pocket copy of Nintendo Power when I saw this movie. Had a big crush on Jenny Lewis after seeing it.

Hasn't Nintendo ALWAYS billed itself as "bringing families together"? If I remember correctly, that was their entire marketing campaign for the Wii (that everyone could play it... and that actually worked well), and half their marketing campaign for everything else. And to be fair, a lot of adults played Mario and stuff with their kids.

as a counter point a lot of arcade machines were played by middle aged guys back then because it was something to do -video games were fairly expensive to get back then and we had no internet so arcade machines were popular with not just kids but middle aged adults too -plus only adults could really spend that much on these games they suck quarters up like the vacume of space

I know that Nerd isn't really Jimmy but they have many similarities. Jimmy is short for Jim which is long for James, the real name of the nerd. In videos where James Rolfe shows his childhood he seems to have the same hair style as Jimmy. Both Nerd and Jimmy also grew up with Nintendo and there was actually a video where James went back to his childhood home to visit the old Dragon fountain (that looks like a dinosaur). Also James made many movies as a kid.

That ending... Pure brilliance!!
