    I thought it was a remake of The Robin Williams movie. But then again, that had a different story.

    I kinda think, about side-characters, the remake got it perfect with the professor's family, specialy because THEY EARNED THEIR OWN SEQUEL. But mosly because all roles Murphy was in were kinda likeable. The professor was someone who had his insecurities, his awkwardness, but when you look at his face, specialy when he is smiling, you can't avoid getting the impression he is sweet and funny, someone who will try to crack a joke at a tense moment, who will talk slow and tender and try to teach his class with the patience of a buda. His family were different spectrums of personality, his father was more fast-talking and no-nonsense, the grandmother was just straightfoward nuts and "I'm old, I have the right to not gie a shit to anything anymore", but the mother was more similar to the professor, which makes sense who was his role-model to grow up like that. The old version's professor looks too pitiful. Yes, sympathetic, but mostly pathetic, so you feel guilty for his unfortunate events and be nice with him, and his nature is to be nice with everyone, but that makes you really want to give him a slap and say "grow a pair!" but still try to do it in a nice way.

    Actually I think the whole "Buddy Love being an insecure douche" thing actually work in the context of the original. The professor was this meek and insecure guy who got bullied by the cool kids who acted like jerks. When he becomes Buddy Love he probably got the idea that in order to be cool you had to be a jerk to people. It adds to the whole moral of the story in that you should be yourself because if you pretend to be someone you're not you just hurt people.

  • @kevins.4185

    @kevins.4185

    10 жыл бұрын

    it adds to the moral but still doesn't mean he should be seen as suave in fact that probably would hurt him. If being cool means being the jerk that makes him more unlikable and if the girls don't like jerks they won't like him.

    No one who watched this movie for the first time now would get annoyed with Jerry Lewis's voice, they've been hearing professor frink for the past twenty six years. It's a normal voice in popular culture now.

    Never understood why Lewis is so unpopular with Americans. To me he is such a brilliant actor and creative man. One of the few men who gave physical comedy a respectable approach and reminds me so much of charlie chaplain. Plus, if you watch any of his less appreciated movies like the bellboy or the Patsy, you can see his influence from European comedians, mime and the Silent era. What an amazing, yet misunderstood man.

It was made in kind of a time where they didn't really know what good comedy was:P the proffesor has an over the top voice which i think was supposed to be funny and it probably was for that time period, but now it's just an annoying voice. Also you can see it on the cover for the dvd that the movie is going to be painfull. The fake teeth and cross eyes-___-

    i personally also prefer the newer one, cause in truth, The transition from professor to Buddy is a little more trickling than jarring. When he first turns into Buddy, the Buddy persona isn't really there. It's more exactly what a fat guy that's suddenly not would do. We really only see Buddy start to emerge as Professor takes more of the potion.

    Eddie Murphy's version of the professor was far better. And I'd go so far as to say his version of Buddy Love was better as well. But I hated the CGI effect slapstick, the garbage with his family, and Dave Chapelle (not because he left his own show, but because it existed in the first place). And then there's the incredibly cute blond girl in the original. Somewhat creepy, what with the pig tails and all, but God she was heavenly.

    And forgetting that the series balances light and dark elements much better. But this is M. Night Shyamalan we're talking about. He couldn't direct a kid-friendly movie to save his life. Much less one that also has an epic, war-based storyline, comedy, and romance. He's the last person you'd want directing a live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

    I use to relate more to the Murphy version because I use to be chubby and a REAL LOSER in middle school. But now that I've lost most of the weight, I relate more to the Lewis version. Being scrawny, weak, and OBSESSING OVER girls who are out of my league, having better fashion similar to Buddy Love, more slick hair like buddy love, and just trying to prove that I can stand up for myself. So even though I think the Murphy version is slightly better, I prefer the Lewis version for more personal reasons. Murphy focuses on being thin, and Lewis focuses on being fit. Which I'm really focused on right now.

    In truth, I've seen so many bad decisions that were due to focus groups or executives underestimating their audiences...like in the case of Paramount claiming they cut out a good chunk of "The Last Airbender" because of "3D conversion" when in reality, they don't think children will sit for more than an hour and a half. THAT was something that hurt the film, in addition to M. Night forgetting the series can be funny.

    The NC identifies himself in The Dean character in the Lewis version of The Nutty Professor. The key with the Lewis version is the humor was made to a different audience than we have now. I thought the Murphy version was more of a modern vehicle movie than the Lewis one was...BUT I liked the new Buddy over Jerry Lewis's Buddy. Both were generally fine though :D

    I guess that all depends on what you mean by "qualified". NC is a "professional" critic, as he makes the money he needs to live from the advertisements and revenue generated by TGWTG and Channel Awesome Productions. Roger Ebert posted on Twitter that the episode "A Tribute to Siskel and Ebert" was "the best, funniest video about Siskel & Ebert I've ever seen." NC was even interviewed on 20/20 in an episode called "Work Wars". Personally, I'd say he's "qualified". *shrugs*
