Nosler vs Hornady: Which company makes the most consistent bullets?

Ойындар

In this video I take 10 ELD-X bullets and 10 Accubond bullets to weigh them on the scale to see how consistent they are. Make sure to make a comment on which company you think makes the more consistent weighing bullet.

hi new to channel, found this video interesting thanks, raised 2 questions i didn't see you weigh each bullet more than once to see if scale varied any ? also those bullets didn't have the same weight so maybe a percentage would be more fair?

Way more consistent than my box of 195 ELDs.. had several 0.3 and even 0.4 grains off. Grabbed a box of Sierra 175 TMKs and all 10 were within +/- 0.05 grains.

Nosler Is a real state of the art bonded bullet! All the ELD X is a Interlock with a tip not any different then a core lokt ‘ just with better bc And they making a ton of money off of people that don’t know any better yes the eld x is a good bullet for deer size game and yes it will kill other game ‘ but the Nosler Acubond will do it a whole lot better deeper penetration and will hold together and most of the time punch threw the other side even on elk or bear

Honestly I go by total variance...Both are great but both have certain things they perform better at. I shoot a lot of high speed guns and ELDX on anything under 200yds is not good up here in Montana. All I get on big game is exploded bullets. Accubonds I have no issues with any hunting performance at any range. That being said my guns shoot the ELDX more accurately, especially at distance. I tend to use ELDX for playing or varmint things at range cause they are more accurate and cheaper. I use Accubonds for my big game hunting. Just some things to consider beyond the weight variance.

That weight difference doesn't make that much difference in the practical hunting applications it's the expansion of the bullet and the bonded where it don't fly apart it makes a difference

I loaded Noslers for many of my early years of reloading. These days I find myself shooting Hornady SST’s at the range and Barnes TTSX’s or LRX’s at game.

Hey, new ballistics nerd here. I don't hunt. Been shooting for my 27+ years on the military side (where I had zero say in what I got to shoot). I'm just curious, as I have begun to figure out with my 3 different .308s, what twist rate does your rifle have? And if you have several rifles (like i do)... do you notice a certain weight of bullet performs better out of a certain length / twist rate combination? For reference (all .308): 1) Howa 1500 24' 1:12 2) DDM5 18" (with 2.5 inch SME) 1:11 3) Galil ACE 16" 1:12 And yes, they all tend to perform a bit differently with different weighted ammo. DDMV4 shoots the 165-170 gr ammo the best. HOWA performs best with the 150gr. Galil does nest with the 180gr stuff past 300yds (shoot this one with iron sights)

  • @ReloadingWeatherby

Most 308 Winchester rifles have 1in12 twists which is good up to 180 grain bullets. I think the sweet spot for the 308 is 165 gr bullets.

I had similar results with nosler. I weighed a box of 100 of the 168 ablr .284 and not even half of the bullets were 168.0. Talk about being disappointed in the quality control especially for the price of what’s supposed to be a premium bullet. The price was the only thing that was premium. I still use them because I can’t argue how well they perform on game, but if the Norma bondstrikes or federal terminal ascents are more consistent on their QC, I’ll be switching and never looking back.

They are both hunting bullets. The real test is weight retention. I’ve hunted with both and each one kills. The AB’s performance and weight retention was better than Hornady. They also grouped significantly better in my rifles. I wish it were the other way around as AB’s are more expensive. I’m sure there are plenty of hunters/shooters who have opposite results as mine. @@ReloadingWeatherby Yah, I was being facetious. Because the ELD-X is not a bonded or controlled expansion bullet means I will not shoot that bullet at any anything alive. However, it might have an application on an antelope hunt where shots tend to be long and windy. And if I can find a good recipe for that pile of lead dust it leaves behind. One could ask Hornady to bond it, but why bother when they have the GMX/CX line plus a line of bonded lead bullets as well. All this leaves me wondering just what I could actually use the ELD-X on. Definitely not on anything I intend to eat. Thanks for the vid.

Sorry to feel this way! But what is the point? 1 grain in bullet weight at that level means nothing at all. The difference is within the margin of error of your measuring scale. So, In the end you practically did not prove anything. If your test also included diameters at 4 locations, shoot the same bullets out of a controlled environment and showed some difference, maybe you could possibly make a point! But, 1/10 of a grain of a 200 gr bullet is nothing worth considering! Good try, means nada! And finally, keep trying!

These are hunting bullets, it has nothing to do with some super precision, we don't shoot targets for points in the competition.
