Norwegian Wood, The Nerdy Version

#norwegianwood #norwegianculture #enthusiasm
We Norwegians have a deep and sincere connection with the wood. It´s the core of our culture. Even today. You could say we are wood nerds. Or simply passionate, like the Italians and Spanish with their cheese and wine.
Join us for a hilarious and self-deprecating expedition into the depths of the Norwegian people's soul. Through Norwegian wood, trees, logs, woodsheds, wood stoves and fireplaces, we explain Norway and Norwegians. We will look at our social structures, traditions, hobbies, well-being, romance, laziness, wealth and modernity.
By comparing Norwegian Wood with wine and cheese - Ronald tells the story of the treasury, the holiest room for Norwegians; shed. Here you get to meet the finest and most exclusive logs Norwegians can offer. As in the most expensive wine and cheese cellars, you get a taste of Norway, you get to smell the smell of Norway. Yes, you almost get to sleep with Norway in this sarcastic video.
The team has set off into beautiful Norwegian winter forest. There is light snowfall. A few birds chirp. The snow is cracking. Mads snorts and swears. He does not like the snow and wants to go home. He thinks what Ronald says is boring and of course cannot help but spit out jokes and dark comments. Ronald is overwhelmed with excitement and thinks the Norwegian forest and wood are fantastic.

** ABOUT YOURWAY2NORWAY **
YOURWAY2NORWAY is a different travel channel. We combine education with humor and entertainment. It’s an authentic inside guide to real life in Norway. We highlight small and large themes, cultural characteristics and Norwegian phenomena. All the stuff you won’t find in a tourist brochure.
The content is perfect for people who travel to Norway as tourists, visit friends and family in Norway, study in Norway or work in Norway. It is ideal for anyone with Norwegian roots and DNA. It is also interesting for anyone who wants to learn more about other cultures and people. And for all of you looking for some smile and laughter.
The guys behind are; Ronald Sagatun - a enthusiastic and sarcastic Sami Latino with a Norwegian passport. Throughout his life he has tried to find out what it means to be Norwegian. Now he shares his hilarious experiences. Mads is a grumpy Norwegian dude, providing the channel authenticity and the typical Norwegian way of viewing the world. We always try to be funny, self-deprecating, human and, when it´s necessary; sincere and passionate.
Filming in a dark winterland in -14 degrees Celsius made forced us to shoot with our mobile. Bear over with loss of quality - what we could achieve in those conditions :)

Ok children, let me tell you a story from long, long ago. Many years before you were born, we had Uncles named Ronald and Mads. And when ever they came to this cabin they had family expectations to keep. You may not want to collect the wood now, but let me tell you something...do you know why we do not use this wood on this side of the woodshed? Thats right, because Uncle Ronald and Uncle Mads chopped all this wood. Just for us to look at and smell. This wood makes us feel safe because there is plenty of chopped wood for us to look at. So we must collect an endless amount so the family 100 years from now can look at the wood we collected. Now quit your whining, ignore the cold and get to work. We only have the weekend to fill the other side. We love you Ronald and Mads, I know the reason you didn't upload sooner is because you were chopping all that wood just so you could do this video! Blessings and safety to us all!

In New England, USA, it's similar. As soon as spring comes, people begin cutting wood for the winter 2 and 3 years hence. This goes on all summer long. Then the wood that was cut the previous year is split and stacked. The wood must age at least 1 year before burning. It never ends.

Here in Southern California, we are CRAZY about TACOS. There are no spice packets or boxes of tacos shells here, oh no! That's the fortified wine of tacos, no good at all! As for wood, well...few of us have fireplaces and many of us buy prepackaged logs wrapped in paper called Duraflame logs that only burn for a couple of hours, or buy "camping firewood" which is sold in precut bundles at a very high price, about $6 usd for a bundle of pine that will make a small fire that lasts 3 - 4 hours. 99% of Southern Californians wouldn't know what to do with an axe or a hatchet if they had one, and would think maybe you're a serial killer if they saw one in your garage. LOL! Anyway, lovely video!

Nature too. I grew up near the Pacific Ocean and for that time, the ocean was my passion as also for many Californians and Americans. Eating seafood is a passion of mine. Since I have moved to an area that is in a large valley surrounded by mountains, (The Sierra Nevada Range) my passion is now mountains. However I always preferred mountains. My family used to vacation in our California Mountains. That is probably why. Also we would visit the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington State way up north of us. My brother moved there. Americans love the mountains too. We have 5 or 6 pretty big mountain ranges in America. As a Californian, we also love out CA Wine. Also our micro breweries for beer. California Mexican food. Oh, what a wonderful video, guys! Great scenery, physical exertion by Ronald, Mads' nonpareil commentary, and the look on Joachim's face when dumping ashes! Love your sweater, Ronald. Wish we had them here. We rent "rustic" cabins just to be able to chop forest wood and enjoy the art of building a real wood fire inside and outside the cabin. Probably more familiar to those of us in the Northern USA...Electric fireplaces are not welcome in areas with frequent power outages. Parents used to say "a little hard work never killed anyone". I thought you and Mads may have cut wood using a two person saw such as you showed on this video. The Jøtil stove is highly valued, here. What a treasure! Loved your history lesson on wood cutting and the old owner. You are soooo fortunate! You realize you've probably done more to encourage travel to Oslo than most travel agencies? Think about out Northern tier next week, when they'll have wind chills of upwards of -51° F! Love you two!

❤️ Always happy to see a notification for a video from YW2NW. Hi Ronald! 😘🤗 Hi Mads! 😘🤗 You don't see fire places or wood burning stoves (what you call a wood oven) in every home. In fact, homes with fireplaces are more expensive and wood burning stoves raise the cost of home insurance. Also, many people who have fire places buy their wood. Especially those that live in urban areas. The rest of us heat our homes with electricity or a combination of natural gas and electricity. I think the Norwegian way is more passionate. Hope you're both keeping well. Love your videos! And love you both very much. 😘🤗, 😘🤗

The harvest starts in November and is the main social event for the whole island until Christmas. It's crazy but cool! But bloody hell I miss those Bunnings sausages! Google it! Here in Colorado, at least in the urban areas, wood burning fireplaces in homes built since the 1980s are not permitted. There are many, many days during the winter where old, wood burning stoves/fireplaces cannot be used as they cause too much particulate pollution. (We call them “red level” days.) So, cozy up to our ubiquitous gas log fireplaces and we’ll need to get some pine scent air fresheners to make you feel like you’re back in Norway!
