Norway Eurovision 2022 Reactionalysis (reaction) - Subwoolfer - Give That Wolf A Banana??

SubWoolfer - Give That Wolf A Banana is Norway's Entry for Eurovision 2022. After viewing this, it's likely that coming to a "reaction" to this is with the pure intent of seeing how someone else views this on a first listening. But this did not throw me off trying to analyse this musically!! Let me know in the comments below your thoughts of this song!

The banana is for the Wolf so he wont be hungry, so he wont eat the grandma in the story the prophet with the strong arm told them from his native planet (litle red riding hood)

I usually can't stand jokey entries (with Verka Serduchka as the shining exception) but I can't help but love this one. It's just so well made, tight, musically competent. And with an amount of surrealism that corresponds perfectly with our current world.

I think people are looking at this the wrong way. This is in no way a joke entry- it might be funny, but everything indicates it is clearly not a joke. Enjoyable choreography, good vocals, a catchy tune, etc. They're aiming to win. I think the lyrics (as well as a lot of other parts of the song- such as the learnable dance routine, the costumes, group's interactions with fans and social media) are meant to get people talking about the song.

@@roguechlnchllla6564 Based on the culture from where it comes from I think it's safe to believe it is made with a good dose of irony and humour. It's not a joke as in "we shouldn't be here", but it's a joke as in this is so silly and ridiculous, but presented in professional and serious way that the surrealistic feel to it becomes extremly entertaining. "What does the fox say" for example was a joke, but so professionally executed that it went viral on a global scale. It's a brilliant combination :)

@@TheMuserResolute Btw, some wolves do eat bananas. Maybe this can clear some stuff up for you. 😅 As a rule, maned wolves prey on small mammals - rodents, rabbits, armadillos, as well as some birds and fish. But in addition, they constantly eat sugarcane, tubers of various plants and fruits. In particular, maned wolves love to feast on tomatoes, apples and bananas. 🍌

@@TheMuserResolute Yeah there is a lot of meaning behind this song, but that's just my personal opinion. Some people write it off as a joke entry, but I really think this is a very well written and well produced song. It makes you think, it makes you wanna dance, it makes you smile and laugh, it allows you to stop thinking about all the negativity going on in the world right now. I love it! ❤😂

’Subwoolfer’ - The biggest band in the Galaxy, first formed 4.5 billion years ago on their home planet, the moon. Since then the brothers, ‘Keith’ and ‘Jim’, have conquered the music scene on every planet, making them the most successful pop group ever. On 20th July, 1969, a prophet named Neil appeared to them in a stable, and was soon hailed ‘the man with the strongest arms’. He promised to return telling them he would help them become the biggest band on his planet too, but only once they had written the greatest song in the universe, sung in his native tongue - English. Neil never returned however, and so now armed with the greatest song in existence, ‘Give That Wolf A Banana’, they have come to earth in search of him, and to claim their musical throne by performing at the most important and prestigious musical event in the history of the world - MGP

IMo it's an absolute banger of a track, helped along by these guys' commitment to playing the characters throughout the length of the competition, in costume all the time, being 'wolves' all the time. They've built a whole aesthetic and mythology around themselves, also helped along by the fact nobody knows who they are, although there are conflicting rumours that it's the Ylvis duo, or that one of them is the British guy from boyband A1. I absolutely adore this track. It's funny, cool, and weirdly joyful and refreshingly stands out a mile from all the earnest emotive stuff that's in the final.

They do vary it as it goes on, the backing vocals seem to increase. There's some sparse touches that work well. Like Konstrakta they've built a whole persona and act around it (aliens hearing about Little Red Riding Hood and coming to Earth to keep wolves from grandmother's). It could be just for comedy or about covid, the banana being the vaccine. This is quite addictive. Apart from the folk tune part I didn't think the Russian song last year really worked. The stage performance was probably important.

I've somehow missed this reaction until now! This is one of my secret favourites this year, completely ridiculous and annoyingly catchy, but also very entertaining. I've seen this maybe five times by now because it's gone through reaction channels, and this is also the only entry this year I've shown to my partner who's very much not a Eurovision fan 😄 (Still isn't after hearing this, wonder why..) This has been compared to What Does The Fox Say? by Ylvis from some years back, some people speculating if they could be behind this, and I can see some similarities. So I think this has a lot of weird viral hit potential, even if this really isn't anyones style.

This is one of those songs that just doesnt need analysing. It is 100% fun. it serves no purpose other than to entertain. But its not the boy who cried wolf, its red riding hood, bananas full of potassium, fill you up, if the wolf is full on banana he wont eat grandma.. its just what the origin of music should be about, Entertainment. Its pure eurovision.

I definitely think it's work of Ylvis or at least they tried the same approach. And Ylvis are just brilliant into making silly songs with the best music industry standards. "What does the fox say" alone does not say that clearly, but together with "the cabin" and "Jan Egeland" it's obvious. And then this Banana song makes more sense I still find this one more boring than the 3 I mentioned.
