North Texas Mother Furious After Special Needs Son Comes Home From School With Confederate Flag Hat

Austen Mornes has enjoyed the eight years he’s spent playing on Lewisville ISD’s Special Olympics flag football team. But the 21-year-old with autism now feels uncomfortable going back to practice next week.

Southern black people are represented in that flag too! It’s not exclusive to white people! It’s not a racial symbol. It’s the symbol for the South. Like the US flag represents all Americans and state flags represent the people of that state. The Confederate flag represents Southern people. The volunteer coach that gave him that hat sounds like he was trying to be friendly and make him feel welcomed.

@@JohnnyReb So? People have been using slaves into war for as long as slavery existed. But that does not mean that they willingly wanted to fight. A slave would fight for the Confederacy beside his master. Why? Because he is a slave and has no choice. There are well known and well documented stories (meaning it actually happened) of black slaves rising up against their former masters. Why? Because the Union said that with whatever slave willing fought for them that they would be forever free and their wife and child free as well. So they traded in their chains for the guns and fought for their freedom. By the time the war ended in 1865, about 180,000 Black men had served as soldiers in the U.S. Army. Besides, those pictures you see were either they were slaves forces to fight, or they were the last minute soldiers that the confederacy never used because it was the end of the war. In the end the confederates were unwilling to use black soldiers because they knew that if they were given the opportunity they would use the gun against them. Which is the same reason why white southern officers were reluctant to give Black soldiers weapons in WW1 and WW2. Here is more information in what I am talking about: www.historynet.com/family-or-freedom-confederate-camp-slaves-cruel-dilemma.htm

@@JohnnyReb What is undeniable is that in the very last days of the war, the Confederate government in Richmond, desperately short on troops, did in fact authorize the raising of regiments of “colored” soldiers. Further, any slaves who joined up would be granted their freedom in exchange for military service. Only enough turned up in the Rebel capital to fill two companies of infantry - and all of them surrendered without incident just days later when the city fell to the Yankees. Despite these few examples, proof that anything more than a handful of of blacks fought to preserve the South is hard to find. A dwarf company or two of black hospital workers was attached to a unit of a local Richmond home guard just a few weeks before the war's end. The regular Confederate army apparently managed to recruit another 40 to 60 men -- men whom it drilled, fed, and housed at military prison facilities under the watchful eyes of military police and wardens -- reflecting how little confidence the government and army had in the loyalty of their last-minute recruits. This strikingly unsuccessful last-ditch effort, furthermore, constituted the sole exception to the Confederacy's steadfast refusal to employ African American soldiers. As Gen. Ewell's longtime aide-de-camp, Maj. George Campbell Brown, later affirmed, the handful of black soldiers mustered in Richmond in 1865 were "the first and only black troops used on our side." However, by the time the war ended in 1865, about 180,000 Black men had served as soldiers in the U.S. Army. This was about 10 percent of the total Union fighting force. Most-about 90,000-were former (or “contraband”) enslaved people from the Confederate states. About half of the rest were from the loyal border states, and the rest were free Black people from the North. Forty thousand Black soldiers died in the war: 10,000 in battle and 30,000 from illness or infection. Why were the leaders reluctant to enlist black people? Because they were fighting to preserve African American slavery and the racial creed that justified it. Slavery's defenders insisted that blacks were inferior to whites -- uniquely suited to dull, arduous labor but incapable of assuming the responsibilities of free people, citizens or soldiers. As Seddon explained, since the Confederacy had taken that stand both before "the North and before the world," it could "not allow the employment as armed soldiers of negroes." Putting blacks into gray uniforms would be seen as a confession that this ideology was a lie. Even more practically, the Confederacy worried about what black troops would do with their weapons. At the very least they feared (in the words of Confederate Secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin) that black Confederate soldiers would desert to the enemy "in mass." As a testament to what the confederates thought of black soldiers, in perhaps the most heinous known example of abuse, Confederate soldiers shot to death black Union soldiers captured at the Fort Pillow, TN, engagement of 1864. Confederate General Nathan B. Forrest witnessed the massacre and did nothing to stop it. Now, as you know, Armies are some of the most notorious bureaucratic structures known to mankind. ANY enlisted man, woman or child is recorded. If there were thousands and thousands of Confederate soldiers who were African American, the proof should be easily obtained in military records, pension records, military injuries, hospital records, etc. It just seems a bit curious that after 150 years since the Civil War, those records have been surprisingly silent. Yes, black men worked behind the lines as uncompensated slaves to the Confederate cause, as cooks, washers, ditch diggers, teamsters, wheelwrights, latrine cleaners, and railroad workers. But, as soldiers, I don't think so. The CSA can offer every military record and erect statues, monuments, state funded parks and other assorted sundries for the Confederate War Veterans, yet where's the monuments and the records and the BACK PAY for the thousands upon thousands of the mythic black soldiers who served the Confederate Army. I guess General Nathan Bedford Forrest sent the colored folks in the south a fine thank you by forming the Ku Klux Klan to terrorize their former slaves. No, it seems like the former slaves of the Confederacy just received the middle finger for their war efforts. For more information read these articles: militaryhistorynow.com/2012/06/20/black-in-grey-did-african-americans-fight-for-the-confederacy/ www.historynet.com/family-or-freedom-confederate-camp-slaves-cruel-dilemma.htm usslave.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-mythical-black-confederates.html I know it is a bit long, but I hope you read this whole. And I mean the articles as well, because it does not seem you read it. And in the end, it does not matter whether a handful of black soldiers fought for the Confederacy, whether free or as slaves. Because in the end the confederacy was fighting to preserve the enslavement of human beings as a continued institution. I could give you some few examples of Jews who fought in Hitler's army. Even with this example, it does not remove the fact that Hitler was an anti-Semite who hated Jews and persecuted them so much that he committed mass extermination and genocide against them. The same way some blacks fought for the confederacy, still does not remove the fact that the South seceding from the Union caused a war that remains till this day the most bloodiest war the United States of America has had to fight in. This left between 620,000 and 750,000 soldiers dead, and all to maintain white supremacy and the continued enslavement of human beings. To say the confederate flag is not bad is like saying "see the Nazi flag is not that bad, because some Jews fought under it". Such statements is very dishonest and does not look into the bigger picture.

Secondly, the South seceding from the Union which caused a war that remains till this day the most bloodiest war the United States of America has had to fight in. This left between 620,000 and 750,000 soldiers dead, and all to maintain white supremacy and the continued enslavement of human beings. Thirdly, you can't say that the confederates seceding from the union was the cause of the freedom of slaves, if they fought that war to maintain slavery. Its like saying if the Nazi's did not start WW2 and killed millions of people, then people would not know that Genocide is bad. Furthermore, most of these flags and statues you see all over the south were created long after the civil war - late 19th to early 20th century, as a testament of intolerance and racism. Why? Because they were created at key moments in US history, such as the post-reconstruction era from 1880s to 1920s, and at the civil rights movements in the 1960s. But why is this so? It is no random coincidence that they came up at this time because they were promoting a return to institutional slavery. This was a time when the KKK was on the rise as well as white supremacy and increased violence that comes with it. Which is why Jim Crow laws were created, to appease the white southern people that their white supremacy was still there. When the second wave of confederate monuments came it was in the 1950 s and 1960s as a sign of opposition to the civil rights movements. Which is why many want these confederate symbols to be removed, not because they are part of our history, or its "our heritage" but because they were created for explicit racist reasons such as a promotion to a return of institutional slavery and upholding white supremacy, against reconstruction and the civil rights movements. If they were put up in good faith then we would not be having this conversation, but it was not so we are. And with your coca cola argument, if somehow a person gets into power with a coca cola logo and invades other countries and starts committing genocide which leaves millions of people dead. Then I am sure coca cola would change its logo, and may even advocate for the coca cola symbol to be banned because of its new association. It would surprise you that the confederate battle flag was not widely used until the 1950s. As a political symbol to opposition of the desegregation of the Army. Then it was quickly embraced by the KKK, as opposition to the civil rights. Why? I don't know, perhaps because *they were racists*. For evidence and more information, I have provided the links below. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hpWnypmRpKepqbA.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/lHmWzNGjcZXKaaQ.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/a5-ay5utnau8Yaw.html en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Cause_of_the_Confederacy

@@vegitoblue5000 truth is slavery and white supremacy are two different things all nationalities have been enslaved at least one point in history second ignorant to compare the Confederate States of America to the Nazi Third Reich I don't think that helps your debate you'd have a better chance of saying the Civil War was over slavery not white supremacy did you know that there were free black slave owners? And did you also know that slavery was not very popular it was slowly dying out and only about 3 to 6% of the South Southern population even own slaves South seceded from 1861 because they were not being fairly represented by the union government so the South declared its independence because it figured it'd be better off on its own multiple States came together and built the Confederate States of America one of the founding principles of that government was the protection of states rights and limiting the higher government control over the states also keep in mind that the union didn't even fight the war to free the slaves the Union in the States slavery as a cause for the war until 1863 this was only done because Abraham Lincoln wanted to make the war out to be of slavery in order to demonize the South which would get the European powers off his back because the European powers like Britain and France already outlawed slavery so if Lincoln made it look like he was fighting to free the slaves Britain and France would stay out of the conflict and not back the South don't forget that history will always be written by winners Churchill once said history's going to treat him well cuz he intends to write it if you're going to look at history have to look at every single side as a historian have to look at everything and then paint the best picture possible from everything that you know going off of historical documents written accounts for the time stories people wrote in their Diaries during the war you also have to look at what was the war like in the eyes of the people fighting not the government commanding it

It's stupid shit like what you are saying. Learn your history and stop believing the lies you are told. Y'all are so weak you let a flag upset you. You should be more concerned while you are still fighting the civil war over a lie that China is about to invade us and they've got the numbers to do it but you keep on letting these democrats lie and lead you around by the nose like an oxen. Get ready for the Chinese invasion it's coming.
