North Korea Television- Station opening for afternoon broadcasting, part of news and mini drama

Ойын-сауық

Sample of North Korean TV recorded off-air live during a trip there in August 2011. This was the station as received in our hotel.
This is the opening of the station for the afternoon broadcast followed by end of a news report and followed by some sort of mini drama.
Some additional info on the content of the programmes as received from 'Ryuikhan':
Just for people who don't understand Korean, the news section is entirely talking about the artillery attack on Yeonpyeong-do, and accusing the South and the USA of provoking the attack first, saying that their army will not be intimidated. It ends with "our DPRK will march ceaselessly towards a unified Korean Peninsula"
LOOOL the drama, the man hasn't seen the older one in years and invites him into his home. He talks to the older man about "soonae" who the older man assumes he is referring to his daughter. Saying that "soonae" is very smart, and can also sing very well. The old man asks him to bring "soonae" to sing for him (it is common in north Korea for children to sing for adults when they visit). The younger man says that "soonae" says it's too early in the day to sing for him. So, the old man decides to talk to "soonae" for himself. Then he walks into the room where the man's family is and calls for "soonae". Then when the man's wife turns around, the old man says "no, i was calling for 'soonae'". The younger man quickly comes in and says that "soonae" is actually his wife's name. All of them embarassed, the old man talks to the young man about appropriate names to call your wife. "Here in the great Korea, you cannot call your wife as if you call your child. To your wife, you can call her (lists appropriate names)". Then the old man calls out the man's wife, and instructs them to honour the Josawn (Korean) manners, and call each other by some name that I don't understand. I assume it's what husbands and wives are supposed to call each other.
So it's not really a drama, but instructions on how you should call your spouse. LOL.
many thanks for that insight :)

At least that's what Jon Sistiaga (An Spanish joirnalist) said in a documentary i watched some time ago (He said that while filming a TV and swapping between the three channels).

Looking over the drama, there is the constant broadcast of pathological humility, of "I did something wrong, no matter what I did, and I accept that I am flawed but always look for direction on how to be doing it right." The perfect enforced attitude for an authoritarian society, that no matter how fickle and wrong, is always right.

That Il-Sung face-zoom is just eerie and unsettling. *shivers* Now something concerning the shit-quality: Even if I'm not one to really judge considering I was born in the late 90's and grew up in the 2000's, I have watched programs from the 80's and even then they were superior and far more pristine in quality than this "station". That is one reason why North Korea intrigues me. For how isolated and twisted the country is.

Well why not consider leaving your nation and live in that dictatorship? Sure Pyongyang and a few select cities/towns may appear decent with some attractions and those May Stadium games, though travel up North, and *BOOM*! Poverty, starvation, distress, and inhumanity. And oh, don't you consider posting "Oh, those westerners are corrupting your Kim Jong Soul.". Plenty of fellow Americans, the British, Germans, Australians, and Singaporeans have documented firsthand the joys of Pyongyang and the terrors up North.

Well , based on their TV show quality... I'd say North Korea is still living in the 70's.

@LWPW0673 I just figured it out... I just heard 연평도 "yeonpyeongdo" at the beginning. That's the name of the island that North Korea shelled a year ago, so I'm guessing they were talking about South Korean networks "distorting" the reports of the attack or something.

I like how they still use microphones mounted on the desk instead of the ones that they clip can clip onto the presenter's suits. you know the kind the rest of the world has been using sense the 1980s

That wasn't really a drama. Was it a sitcom? A sitcom that seriously isn't funny. This is Korean Full House isn't it!

I highly doubt that. They can always get the pirated copy of Sony Vegas Pro 10 and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Intro = 3.5 Minutes Long. I would have eaten 3/4 of my breakfast by then.

Why would you have been eating breakfast then? North Korean TV signs on for the evening news- no morning TV
