NORTH KOREA | CYCLING THROUGH THE STREETS OF PYONGYANG

It could be said that Pyongyang City is a comfortable city for cyclists, many Pyongyang people use bicycles as the main means of transportation for short to long distances. In this video, I take you to enjoy the atmosphere of Pyongyang city in winter, by cycling. Thank you and happy watching.
On Wikipedia, it is written that cycling cycling has become a common mode of transport in North Korea since its economic transition in the early 1990s.
A ban on bicycles in the country's capital and largest city, Pyongyang, in existence for decades, was suddenly lifted in 1992, and according to Andrei Lankov, bicycles have since "proliferated" and their use has "visibly increased" in other urban areas. However, their price, meager by international standards, still puts them out of reach of a significant portion of the populace.[1] A modest infrastructure, including bicycle lanes and bicycle parking, has likewise developed.[3] Foreign and domestic bicycles are available, with used Japanese models particularly coveted.
Cyclists must reportedly obtain a license by passing a road safety test, and must register bicycles and display a corresponding tag as proof, though the law is often flouted outside the capital. Conflicting reports exist that women are, or have been, banned from riding bicycles, with some claiming the ban to be a personal edict of Kim Jong-il; however, female cyclists are a common sight in North Korea's large cities, indicating this law, too, if it ever existed, is widely ignored.

based on the background highrise building being in a stage of construction in 4:06, which through satellite data I gathered had foundations laid after 2015 and completed in 2017, this video must have been filmed back then meaning this would've been short of a decade ago. I wish the uploader would write the date for the video for our information, don't get me wrong this is an incredibly valuable record of Pyongyang which no one would be able to gain access to since it has changed so much since. look forward to seeing more!

I think the only possibilty to get a better understanding of the age of this video would be to look at the most recent car in this video or -as you did - at the consctruction sites.

Literally 19 seconds in and I already see text. Just because you can't recognize the korean alphabet doesn't mean it's not there. It is true that it's architectually bleak, but that's because most of the city was remodeled after the soviets (infamous for their soulless architecture made for efficiency) because 75% of Pyongyang was destroyed in the Korean War so they had to rebuild with Soviet assistance.

Which has absolutely 0% motives to slander their neighbour, without presenting any evidence for their bold claims. Literally all the western media uses south-korean media's as sources of "information" for the DPRK, and it suits them.

AFAIK, Pyongyang is the wealthiest part of NK. So life there is probably easier than in smaller cities, and in the countryside. Still, it looks like how I imagine Dongbei (northeastern China, where I have been a lot) looked like 20-40 years ago.
