North Carolina is Headed to Expansion Big 12: Legislation Bars School from SEC, Big 10 via NC State

Спорт

Adding North Carolina to the Big 12 Conference would mark a significant shift in the landscape of college athletics, bringing both opportunities and challenges for the conference. Here's how it could unfold:
Geographic Expansion: North Carolina's entry into the Big 12 would extend the conference's reach into the Southeast, providing access to new recruiting territories and fan bases in one of the nation's hotbeds for college sports. The Tar Heel State's rich tradition in athletics, coupled with its passionate fan base, would add depth and diversity to the Big 12's geographic footprint.
Athletic Competitiveness: North Carolina boasts strong athletic programs across various sports, particularly in football and basketball. The addition of the Tar Heels would bolster the Big 12's competitive profile, elevating the level of play and enhancing the conference's national reputation. Matchups between North Carolina and existing Big 12 powerhouses would create excitement and anticipation among fans, drawing increased attention to the conference.
Conference Dynamics: North Carolina's move to the Big 12 could catalyze further conference realignment, prompting other conferences to reassess their membership and strategic positioning. This ripple effect could lead to a reshuffling of affiliations and alliances across college sports, ultimately shaping the landscape for years to come.
Financial Growth: The inclusion of North Carolina would potentially unlock new revenue streams for the Big 12, particularly through enhanced television contracts and lucrative sponsorship deals. The Tar Heels' national brand and large fan base would attract media interest and corporate partnerships, driving financial growth and stability for the conference and its member institutions.
New Rivalries: North Carolina's arrival in the Big 12 would ignite new rivalries and storylines across various sports, but especially in basketball. Traditional matchups between the Tar Heels and other powerhouse programs in the conference would become must-watch events, further enhancing the Big 12's standing in the college sports landscape.
In summary, North Carolina's potential inclusion in the Big 12 represents a transformative opportunity for both the conference and the university, offering the chance to reshape the competitive landscape of college athletics while unlocking new avenues for growth and success.

I think that the SEC will grab about 4 teams from the ACC and the B1G will likely get Florida State and the independant school of Notredame. Revenue sharing is going to cut into tv for all programs and to make it back it's the most logical course. The other teams will head to the Big12.

Personally, I’m about DONE with college sports due to the destruction of conferences, and not just any conferences…..but multiple power conferences. And that’s not even including the incredibly negative impact this is all having on mid-major schools with regard to basketball. I just don’t find all the incredible greed by both schools and athletes to be very attractive. And that’s an understatement. If I want to watch pro-sports, I’ll watch the NBA and NFL. College sports (a singular concept) is alienating hundreds of thousands of people nationwide. It’s just not fun anymore. And I know I’m not the only person who feels like this.

Big 12 will be the 3rd best conference very soon. They will be lucky to get out of ACC eventually

If the ACC depletes out so heavily that the BIG12 becomes the #3, #3 won't matter.

No ACC team will be joining the Big or sec...there is not enough value in those teams. However some of them suffer from the PAC12 delusion and believe they are worth more than they actually are. Let those teams twist in the wind and down the drain. Thr BigXII should take only teams that want to join. F unc, duke, fsu and miami let them sink. The big XII should invite lousiville, syrucuse, VT and ncstate.

SEC would take FSU & Clemson. SEC would also likely take both UNC & NCSt. Big10 would take FSU, Clemson, UNC & ND, or maybe NCSt or maybe MIA, GT, Pitt or Syracuse. Your 4 picks for Big12 are great picks for Big12, but would Syracuse really separate from the other 7 ACC private schools if all others are sticking together (including ND) ??? I used to make the same list of prime targets, plus a few others, but Syracuse & Ga Tech are both hidden gems. But after Stanford and SMU joined ACC, I think it makes it much harder to separate SYR and MIA and ND and Duke from the ACC private schools. Yes it's possible, but now it's a much harder sale to make. All the public schools could leave the ACC and the privates might still stick together as a New Ivy League. Forbes has an article on the New Ivy League Schools. Several are in the ACC. With public departures, the ACC privates will invite Rice & Tulane forthwith. They would keep Cal if Cal wants to stay. They would keep UNC, UVA, VA Tech, NCSt, Pitt, GA Tech as well. Half those schools are on the Forbes New Ivies list.... Things may not happen the way many think. The semi-pro league may just have to make a go of it without the New Ivy League.

Delusional... The BIG8/SWC group has had 6 schools consolidated, but only MD from the ACC suffices? The new BIG12 is the worst P4 in academics, athletics, prestige and value. It's the option of last resort.

Just delusional.... The BIG12 is the worst (by far) P4 in athletics, academics, prestige and actual media value. If UNC stays for whatever reason, only FSU likely leaves. UNC is not going to give up its position of power/influence even in a lightly depleted then Tier 2 ACC to downgrade across the board in the new BIG12. The State of NC isn't going to force anything if that means such a downgrade and the end of the ACC as a conference of some relevance.

@@robertgibbs6480 BIG12 and some other fans discount the value of the ACC's #2s. All but CLEMSON are better academic schools than the BIG12's flagships and are located in states with up to 5x or more the population. For some context, SMU would likely be the top academic school in the new BIG12. Frankly, since the ACC is down to just 2 state flagships, it's the number of quality #2s that props up the overall value.
