Normandy Revisited | Full Documentary

Normandy Revisited is a feature documentary that explores the untold stories of history's greatest invasion, ensuring that the memories of our last surviving D-Day veterans are preserved for future generations. Hear firsthand from more than a dozen veterans of the campaign, explore the sacred battlefields through intimate footage, discover true valor and sacrifice through historic artifacts, and follow veterans on their emotional journey back to Normandy for the first time since the war. Filmmaker Benjamin Mack-Jackson spent five years gathering these compelling stories, culminating with a journey to France in June 2019. This gripping documentary, released nearly eight decades after D-Day, provides a unique inside look at the forgotten stories of the bloody battle and how the people of France still remember their liberators.

I hate to say it. But I have to be honest....our nation will never see a generation of Men like this again....they are truely the bravest, most honorable, men I have or will ever witness....it is an absolute treasure to have archived thier experiences for future generations to bear witness...and they must.

I grew up as a kid being fascinated with dday, both the beaches and behind lines where the paratroopers dropped. Easy company were superheroes to me. These men wont be around much longer to tell the stories as the ones who saw it, heard it, smelt it and most importantly, fought it. I cherish these stories and accounts from these brave men, and will make sure to share them with my future generations. Show them the resolve of the greatest generation

I am a history teacher as well in Canada. Since the coup on, January 6th, 2021, our job to educate our students is more important than ever. I believe that if those that participated in coup were properly educated about tyranny, they wouldn't have believed Trump and his cronies, and the coup wouldn't have happened. The U.S. has a long road a head of them to change the minds and hearts of your countrymen that support/participate in any form of totalitarianism.

@susango123 a recent development to the story revealed Fox news knowingly told false stories to increase their viewership and make more profits. There's messages and audio of Tucker Carlson and Hannity talking about how crazy the stories of election fraud were. They knew they were broadcasting fake news, and made Millions of Americans believe the election was corrupt, Fox News damaged US Politics and US Society in untold ways. They helped to divide a nation, make their viewers believe in crazy conspiracies, all for company profits. I hope Fox News and its hosts will be held accountable for all the harm and damage caused. I'm shocked that somehow a media company, over the space of a few years, could have destroyed the worlds biggest Superpower and democracy

Ive seen so many. WW2 videos in my life of 65 years, I grew up in a home with two veterans, Grandfather WW1 and Dad, WW2. This is such a delight to see the men who were still young when I was born in 1955, and now, telling such a concise story of the only thing that really matters, that is the man who was there, who remembers his friends who are not.

You’re my dad’s age. We had 5 WW2 vets in our family, my grandpa and 4 great uncles (one was KIA in Okinawa). My dad was the baby of the family though, and I was one of the last grandchildren born, so I had precious few years with my grandpa. I was too young for him to talk to me about the war, so I’ve had to hear everything second-hand. I wish someone had thought to record, or even write down some of the stories. It’s imperative we document as much as we can before it’s too late. Even the youngest vets of WW2 are in their mid-90s now, and their numbers are decreasing fast (the last time estimate I heard was that there were approx. 300,000 left in the US. It might have changed by now). ✌🏻🇺🇸

In fact more men and material from the British Commonwealth by air and sea. God Bless all who took part to defend western democracy, freedom, decency and our civilization! Lest we forget! Never let others - domestic or foreign - try to take our democracy, freedom and western civilization away from us. The ultimate sacrifice was made by so many so for us and our way of life! This program is wonderful, and I salute all those who served. My five uncles all served. Three of them were in the Korean War, two were in WW2. Our family is very proud of them. My uncle enlisted at 17….. lied about his age in order to get in. He was the oldest of 14 children living in Puerto Rico. He was a medic in the army and received several medals. All five of my uncles made it through the war……they were all brothers all in the war at the same time. My grandmother went through hell, especially every time they’d announce on the radio, the names of the soldiers who had perished. I use to love listening to their adventures when I was a teenager. They all came home safely and raised beautiful families. I love their pictures with their uniforms on. We are very proud of them.

On the 75th Anniversary in 2019, I was a skipper on a yacht training for a Round the World Yacht Race. We happened to be just outside Portsmouth Harbour when the mixed fleet left for Normandy and, soon after, we did a training race with the other 10 yachts across the Channel and around a couple of marks in the bay just off the landing beaches, before continuing onto Weymouth and then back to Portsmouth. We rounded the cardinal mark a couple of miles off the Normandy beaches at dawn and I remember it being a very special moment for those of us on deck, imagining all those young men having the same view exactly 75 years before. Many of whom didn't make out the day. Truly a memorable and sobering experience.

What a great documentary, great job. I was there for the 50th in 1994 as part of a Honor Platoon representing the 134th Inf Division out of Nebraska. Told myself I'd be back for the 100th. I don't know if I can wait that long! Please continue to share the memories of the Greatest Generation.

It is amazing to see and hear these veterans; the ones who were actually there, telling their stories. It was a great moment for me when I stood at Omaha Beach a few years ago. I listened to the sea, and tried to just imagine and picture that day. I still get tears in my eyes. I don't know why. But hearing these men remembering the harrowing experiences they went through, touches me deeply, and always will. It was very special to see the little children of Normandy taking part in remembrance events. It is sad that, in many (most?) other places youngsters do not even know about the two great wars.

I have been a very amateur historian of WWII since I was a child, I’m 65 now. For the life of me I cannot understand why this war is not a huge part of all history lessons in our schools today. This was one of the few absolute defining moments in our country’s history. Instead our young are destroying the history of this great country tearing down statutes and kneeling in front of our flag. No, we’re not a perfect society, but what sets this country apart is through individualism and freedom we recognize that, and we strive to become “more perfect”. The bravery and service of these men should be admired and shown as much as possible to our young.

I have been watching all of the mini-documentaries they have on KZread interviewing the brave service members of WWII. I joined the Army back in the 70's. I had 4 uncles in WWII and my Father was in the Army just prior to Vietnam so he didn't go. One of my Uncles has a story similar to these guys, took him a long time to tell. The short version: He was on the last Aircraft Carrier that was sunk in WWII. It was sunk by two kamakazi planes. After the first plane hit the ship, they thought "ok we can recover." Then when the 2nd one hit the Captain eventually had to call abandon ship, because of where the plane hit and the massive explosion. After 8+ hours in the water and oil and strafing, he was pulled from the water still alive and covered in oil from head to toe. The oil came from the sinking ship. If anyone is interested, I just found a picture online of the moment the ship exploded. Sometimes people take pictures and get something they didn't expect. The ship is the USS Bismark Sea. I think if you google that name and add the word explosion it will probably come up.

The Mrs and I were Blessed to go to Normandy Beach and to visit the cemetery of all the heroes who gave all. As a vet, I salute all that gave their courage and sacrificed their lives and those who has fought and lived to document what we see before us in these videos so we may live on and understand what these WWII heroes have done to preserve out freedoms. For the heroes who are able to tell their story now, Thank You!! Being a vet but not of WWII has shown me the sacrifice you all have made for this country. Growing up in the 60’s, the Vietnam war was going on and now I’m so much older, I cant help but to tear up when sadness of war is so apparent to those who have fought in them. Thank you for letting me share!
