Black Swan and Blood, Sweat and Tears are some of BTS's master pieces. They also do projects within their respective specialties, such as House of Cards (vocal line) and Outro;Tear and the Cyphers 1 through 4 (rap line). And there are of course their solo projects: Jin - The Astronaut; Suga/Agust D - Snooze; J-hope - Neuron; RM - Wildflower; Jimin - Like Crazy; Taehyung/V - Fri(end)s; Jungkook - 3D (he has a remix with Justin Timberlake that is really satisfying). Good Luck and welcome to the BTS Universe!

BTS’s lyrics are always quite deep. They did a series of albums based on Carl Jung’s Map of the Soul, which talked about the Persona, Shadow, and Ego. ON is about confronting your shadows (the repressed evil, tormented, or troubled parts of your mind) and coming out stronger for having dealt with them. Other K-pop groups’ songs, though a good, rarely go as deep as BTS’s lyrics and MVs do. The fanbase, ARMY, calls it “Falling down the rabbit hole.”

This is so funny to me. I found BTS by accident. I am really into Kdramas so all my feeds are full of everything Korean. My kids say you'd never know I was American if you found my phone and opened any of my streaming apps. Lol So when the buzz became all about BTS going into the military, these reaction videos kept popping up EVERYWHERE in my feeds. I decided to watch Mic Drop on my own, then go watch the reaction that had popped up ( so I could see it and react to it myself before watching someone else react to it). I was blown away, and literally, as I was clicking it off, I said, "Oh no, I think I just fell down the rabbit hole...." And that's where I have happily been ever since. During that time, it was the sixth anniversary of my daughter's passing, and for some reason, this year hit so much harder for me, and I was in a very dark place. They helped me ride the wave so that I could get my head back above the water. And now, I turn to them for comfort and warmth whenever this terrible world seems to be killing my fighting spirit. I love these boys so much! They're like my own kids...they are all about the same age as my gir, s so there's that too. I have a bias but only up until the moment I happen onto something negative happening to ANY of them....then I'm ready to fight....so do I "really" have a bias. Not sure. Baby ARMY here....

You were asking about the choreography. They do have an in-house choreographer who has worked with them since before they debuted in 2013, but they also contribute to developing the dances and sometimes use external choreographers. The main choreographer for ON was Sienna Lalau of The Lab, a US based dance company. She is the young woman that the camera first focussed on at the start of the video and was only 19 when she choreographed this. She’s worked on other high energy pieces for them, including Dionysus and RunBTS (which had its first and only live performance at their last concert before military service enlistment). The Kinetic Manifesto video was shot at the Sepulveda dam in LA, just before Covid hit. They were just about to start a massive, sold out world stadium tour but its postponement and eventual cancellation ruined their plans. We did gain a whole extra unscheduled album out of it (BE), a solo masterpiece video from Suga/Agust D (Daechwita), an anthology album (Proof), more solos from all the members and more time with them before enlistment, but it was unsettling for them. The reason we tend to suggest this rather than the official mv is that the main video is packed with a lot of symbolic imagery which probably won’t make a lot of sense to someone new to BTS and which could be distracting for a reaction. Also, this version really shows off the choreo. Others have explained that the song is part of an album series which explores Jungian psychology. An interest which, along with art, literature, history and philosophy has been part of their musical journey for about eight years. Their work goes deep.

Welcome! You have just barely scratched the surface of their diversity, friend. When I saw my first BTS video just over a year ago ("Butter"), I thought, "Oh, this is such a fun bop. Is this what they're all like?" NO. From hard-hitting social commentary ("N.O", "Not Today", "Spring Day", "Go-Go", and "Haegum") to sweet love songs ("Serendipity", "Euphoria", "Just One Day"), from songs that will lift your spirit ("Magic Shop", "Mikrokosmos", "Answer: Love Myself") to songs that will make you cry ("Spring Day", "Outro: Tear", "The Truth Untold") to songs that are just plain funny or weird ("War of Hormone", "Apanman", "Chicken Noodle Soup"), BTS has such an immense back catalogue, you could be busy with their videos for a very, very long time. Some other folks have recommended "Black Swan" for your next reaction video, and I totally agree. It's inspired by both the 2010 film as well as this Martha Graham quote: "A dancer dies twice-once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." It's another gorgeous video, shot in an old theatre in L.A. Jimin, a former top student in contemporary dance, gets to show off some of his incredible artistry in this one, and he's amazing.

BTS is bigger than the kpop industry, many of their listeners don't consume kpop, only BTS. They are seven artists with very different styles, if you listen to them in their solo careers they don't seem like they are from the same group and their group music is also very varied. The kpop industry is very competitive so fandoms are not friendly to each other, be careful with making comparisons or mentioning other groups. Anyway BTS are living legends, when you react to them, I'll be here. They are very nice too and have a captivating story behind them, if you want to know them react to "A guide to BTS members: bantang 7" by taylor (47 minutes but it doesn't matter, upload it all at once, it's better.) We love to see the reaction to the guide 💜

I agree. I actively dislike most Kpop I have tried to listen to. It's clear the artists are highly skilled, very talented and hard working, but the content of the music is ... pretty superficial. Some bands are trying to explore different issues and more deeply (certainly influenced by BTS) and I applaud them so much, but they have yet to really take my attention. BTS has SO MUCH, I don't need another artist - which is in some ways a shame, but it is what it is...

  • @eileencritchley4630

@@Maraaha55 I have to agree with you and I think there are 2 main reason why this happens 1 The artists themselves are not encouraged to try new things. 2 Kpop fans will be all 'I miss their original' this album is a flop it's not.....insert groups name......' It's very restrictive kpop auidence's in general don't like different from their favourite group or 'kpop label'. The want the same sound the same every time from 'their' group.

  • @Maraaha55

    @Maraaha55

    Ай бұрын

@@eileencritchley4630 Interesting points - I'm really not familiar much with kpop fandoms ... For me, I largely blame the companies, who of course focus on making money, but in the process they really too often restrict artistic freedom for their artists. Many independent artists (and fans) look down on idols because 'they only get told what to do' and just do it, though it's increasingly changing. In addition, until BTS, raising many of the issues that BTS did (eg mental health etc) was very risky for an idol, and admitting you had mental health issues (which most of BTS have done) could be career suicide. As for Kpop fan groups, oh, yes, they can be really restrictive and pretty cruel, so I can imagine well how they might refute 'anything different', but I hope that's changing - and I think the power to influence that lies with the companies themselves. So so so many want to emulate BTS' success, but the only way (I think) to do that is to take the risk to be different.

  • @alipotter0613

UK ARMY here. When you don't speak Korean it takes at least 2 or 3 (or more!) watches to pick up on lyrics, dancing etc. I find that once you know the theme/meaning of the track then you can focus on the visuals. BTS are not like any other group. They have always skirted around the edges of the KPop scene but now I would say they are a completely mainstream worldwide group, in the league of MJ and Beyonce. And when you start listening to Kpop you will notice the difference too. BTS cannot be boxed in, they cross genres, they write, produce and take risks. All these factors are not common in Kpop. Also, bear in mind you are watching content spanning over 10 years so what they write about, think etc is changing as they grow. Good luck!💜

Thanks for your reaction! The lyrics for this song (and the concept for its whole album trilogy) are based in Jungian psychology, namely the concepts of the Persona, Ego, and Shadow. This song describes how we have to embrace our "Shadow," our darkness and pain, to reach our full potential. Hence, the line about "going insane to stay sane"... it's like in therapy, right? You have to drag up and confront your pain in order to heal and move past it. And BTS did face a lot of pain in their climb to the top. In an industry dominated by three huge corporations, they were outsiders from a small label and fought an insane uphill battle to gain each bit of recognition. Along the way, the industry, as well as the fanbases of the popular groups from those companies, did everything they could to stop them. Obviously, it didn't work. 😄 So this song also nods to that with its "we're fighters and you'll never break us" vibe. I saw that you asked in the last reaction whether they write their own music--they do, and they have since the beginning. Their company has a production team that helps out, but the lyrics, the concepts, and a lot of the music production comes directly from the members themselves, which is pretty unusual in the kpop industry. BTS is about as authentic as you can get in the world of pop music, which is why their fans are basically ride or die. Yeah... ARMY are mostly well meaning, but can be intense. I hope they're being nice to you, but if some are over the top, please don't take it personally. They're ridiculously protective of BTS.

The Kinetic Manifesto is more the choreography version. The other has deep meaning that you may have to watch an explanation video for. The soloist is Jung Kook, the youngest member (been with them since he was 13 yrs old) and the main vocalist of BTS. He currently holds the record for the fastest song in history to get One Billion Streams on Spotify (108 days). His debut album, “Golden” released Nov 3, and the title track, “Standing Next to You” are still charting 20 weeks out. Rolling Stones listed him as the only Asian male in their top 200 voices of all time. Having said that, all seven members are extremely talented individuals. This group’s isn’t like *NSYNC or other boy bands where you have one or two who are extremely talented and the others not as much. Literally all seven are ultra talented and multi-talented. I hope you will eventually check them out, too, and come to love and appreciate all seven as we do. BTS “Black Swan” (you will soon find that they don’t have “a sound”)😊 “Run BTS” dance practice “Blood Sweat and Tears” “Airplane pt 2” “Not Today” “Spring Day” (the explanation video by Italian ARMY is a must with this video) Rap Line “UGH@ “Cyphers” Vocal line “House of Cards” “Truth Untold” Members Rappers RM - “Wildflower”, “Still Life”, “Joke” Suga aka Agust D - (trilogy) “Daechwita”, “Haeguem”, “Amygdala” J-Hope - “Neuron”, “More”, “On the Street” feat J Cole Vocalists Jin -“Epiphany” live, “The Astronaut” mv or live at Coldplay concert, “Moon” 6:51 Jung Kook - “Hate You” visualizer or live at iHeart radio, “Euphoria” live in Osaka, Japan, and “Still With You” V - “Fri(end)s” (not to be with his other song with member Jimin “Friends”), “Slow Dancing”, and “Rainy Days) Jimin- “Like Crazy”, “Set Me Free” and “Lie” I think when you get around to This you will be blown by 6:51 by their talent and how different they all are.

You'll love the Blood,Sweat and Tears MV if the lyrics intrest you. BTS , namely RM and Suga write most all of their songs. The others started filling in some as the years went on. Suga does most all the producing and Jhope does the choreography but they do have in house and outside help on all the things. What different with BTS and the rest of Kpop is the guys, BTS do most of their own stuff, Bang PD, the owner of Bighit and the man that put the group together, he wanted them to do for their selves, RM and Suga already wrote and were in the underground scene and rapping first. While Jhope was in a group dancing....they each bring a different dienamic to the group and have taught each other also over the years. 64 yr old granny here that has been listening to our guys since 2016....😊 The fans are Called ARMY...

These are 2 great videos for your initial delving into the BRS rabbit whole (and, it is a beautiful place down here, and lots to hear and see). There are 3 all English songs when you get to them (Butter, Dynamite, Boy with Luv). BUT, there are so many mind blowing, gorgeous songs and videos, you will be in wonder before long. Black Swan, DNA, I Can Make it Right .... I could go on and on. ALSO, there are live performances of their songs that will make you melt! THIS song was done live in Grand Central Station (in NYC) for a late night talk show. It was this version! Magnificent! BTW, the young woman in the center of the group at the start of the video was the choreographer for the version of ON. ALSO, the angel singing is their main vocalist, Jungkook (the youngest of the group, and sometimes referred to as the Golden Maknea).

I love that you're getting into the lyrics! I'm a 67yo ARMY (BTS fan) and what keeps me is their lyrics that are often deep and meaningful. This particular song's concept is partially based on Jungian theory... the map of the soul. RM, who is a genius (literally!) was instrumental in writing this song. They write a lot of their own music and address issues such as mental illness, oppression, bullying, and female empowerment, just to name a few. They've faced a lot of hate and have successfully, and with class, addressed the haters in their music. They are a class act, in my opinion, and I'm very happy you're enjoying them. I think I'll stick around and see more of your reactions to them! Thank you. 💜

Your comments about the performance conveying a "fighting spirit" were spot on. Korean people have a word of encouragement they give each other: "Fighting!" It's a Korean cultural thing, not limited to BTS. "Good luck on your job interview. Fighting!" "I'll give it my best! FIGHTING!"

BTS is doing amazing concept work. This is the "Map of the Soul" so we are talking psychology (Carl Jung) because to "Love Yourself" you have to "Know Yourself". Intro: Persona -> Boy With Luv -> Interlude: Shadow -> Black Swan -> *On* -> Outro: Ego Since the "Shadow" was too dark on it's own they are using two albums for the era. This is an inner self-exploration. The "shadow" is our unconscious: the part we can't accept about ourself, the one that keeps us up at night/makes us depressed etc. But as it is part of us we have to examin it - which happens in "Black Swan" mainly - and accept it which we have in "On" with a struggle/fight. People offered this version because the official version is overborden with symbolism you do need a key for and a beginner of BTS does not know it. So if you want to see their debut song: *No* *More* *Dream* (channel 1theK for good translations) If you want to see them live try "Enjoy BTS More". There are subtitles. You nice! keep ging!

The difference between this and other MV is that this is a dance performance based MV and the other is a cinematic storytelling based MV. This song is off the album Map of the Soul: 7 in 2020, part of their Map of the Soul album series, based on Jungian psychology. So, there is a lot of exploration on these 4 albums of the shadow, ego, persona, their fears and flaws, their inner selves, their identities, etc. All of their albums, including solo albums, are concept albums and many are in sets or series with a theme and tracks are in a storytelling order. Their work tells their personal stories through the different phases of their lives as we have watched them grow up the last 11 years since their debut in 2013 when they were nearly all teenagers (from 15 - 20.) The are constantly evolving as artists and always tell their truth in their music. Even songs that sound like just "love songs" almost always have deeper meanings and personal meanings. Their songwriting and storytelling is layered. BTS is a very deep well.... This album dropped just before the pandemic slammed down, cancelling their already sold-out world tour. Yes, fighting spirit, you have no idea. BTS has taken more undeserved hate than probably any musical group in the world. It's been insane, believe me. Organized, insidious, viral, as upstarts coming up outside the industry, and hated on from all sides with almost no allies in the business initially, no one to protect them, no connections, standing alone with ARMY. Then later, as they grew in global fame, facing constant racism, xenophobia, pigeonholing and stereotyping, dismissal and disrespect. Yet they remain humble, one of the hardest working acts in the biz, and are just insanely talented. Mic Drop, the previous song you reacted to, is off Love Yourself: Her in 2017, part of the Love Yourself series of albums. I recommend Black Swan; Fake Love; or DNA next. Just also know that all their songs are amazing, not just the album singles and MV ones, but also the B sides, stand-alone singles, OSTs and collabs, which can be listened to on lyric videos and live performances. There are no MVs for the Cypher Series, Outro: Tear, Ddeng or Ugh, but I highly recommend them if you want to see just the rap line in action. There are great live performances of those too, but you for sure have to check out lyrics breakdowns, because the wordplay will make your head spin and subs cannot capture it. Plus, they are even better live. Yes, I said they are better live. Enjoy BTS More is a good channel for live videos with good Eng Subs. BTS are astounding. Prepare to have your mind continually blown by them. There are very good reasons that this group is the biggest in the world, with a diverse fanbase across all age groups, demographics, language and culture barriers and many, many countries. Hint: It's not because they are cute.

Yea, BTS!! It should be noted that they basically broke open the Korean popular music scene. They changed not only the exposure that their country has around the world, they also set the bar for how the artists should be treated and the expectations of what sort of artistry to strive for. Many kpop companies had basically slave contracts for their talent, and BTS's company was like....nah, you guys are your own person and this whole thing we're about to do will be in the artistic direction YOU want to take it. Of course the members had guidance from the company (they were teenagers after all), but they had freedoms far beyond what others in the industry were allowed -- it's why their music had authenticity and a deeper feel to it. Also -- they were very bold in criticizing their government and society back when it was easy to get blackballed for doing it. Nowadays you'll find other acts who are allowed to follow in the same vein of creative freedoms and online trends.

BTS never shied away from mental health problems etc. ON, Black Swan and other songs from their album Map Of The Soul: 7 were inspired by Carl Jung's psychology theories, the map of the soul Persona, Shadow and Ego. Quick summarize of BTS: They make their own songs, own lyrics , own composition, suggest own ideas to a music video also owns the choreography. Some choreography is provided by their mentor but they do add their ideas in direction. These seven men from korea is unique just because of their hardships and MUSIC ✨ 3 rappers and 4 vocalists solid blend to each of their song ; in short a total package of music.

oh my god thank you for actually paying attention to their lyrics. so many peoples first BTS songs were their english language songs like Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance. But they were fun songs they released during and after the pandemic. Even when people react to songs like ON, they don't pay attention to the words. There is a reason BTS became so huge within kpop that they blew up worldwide, and it started with their lyrics being meaningful. I still remember hearing their debut song when it came out and I fell in love with them when they released their album Wings. There is a whole story you have to check out - their HYYH MVs in order and then their Wings videos in order. It's a whole thing. They also have solo songs that describe their lives in painful detail. And it's not just BTS, people who don't know about Kpop, don't know about Kpop. BTS aren't the only ones writing their own songs and there are some fantastic Kpop groups with brilliant, meaningful songs. As a Kpop fan since 2007, I have seen some of the worst things happen, and the worst thing that happened was in 2009 and the members of that group wrote possibly the most open and honest song about what they went through. So honest that they've been blacklisted from Korean TV ever since. Anyway, thank you for actually paying attention to the words. And if you liked ON then I HIGHLY recommend watching a live performance of Dionysus.

BTS used Carl Jung's analytical psychology to write the lyrics and make the official MV. It talks about accepting our shadows, which are those repressed parts of us. We can only evolve when we truly accept these repressed parts of ourselves. That's why the lyrics say "leave me with my everything" Only when we accept everything that is part of us can we find peace. By the way, the drums announce. the battle that will be faced... just as it was in the Middle Ages that soldiers were warned to prepare for battle with drums 🇧🇷💜

one thing you need to know about BTS is that they always talk about their experiences, and they never shy away to talk about hard topics like mental health, societal issues, or their story. they mostly write their lyrics (esp the rapline) and they also had a hand in the production and the direction of their music. their songs have diff meanings and can be applied to diff situations. On is part of Map of the Soul: 7 album which is inspired by Carl Jung’s theory, Persona, Shadow & Ego. this one is directed to the shadow part of it. BTS music is so diverse that you will find def find a song that you will like. Mic Drop was directed at their haters hence the tone of it. it was part of the Love Yourself trilogy, acknowledging what you worked hard for. they’ve been through a lot since the beginning coz they were from a small company and was always getting hated for absolutely everything. but as you might discover if you continue on this journey, they are the most humble and loving people. they have a strong connection with us, ARMY, their fandom that i havent seen from others (i have listened to a lot of artists prior to BTS). you can see their sincerity and genuine love and care for ARMY. As a recommendation, you may want to check out FESTA Room Live 2021, where they sing snippets of their songs, from their debut to 2021 to see the variety of their music. btw some of their songs have explanation vids to get the contexts coz their lyrics are so deep. they also have solo albums and mixtapes, coz they are currently enlisted in the military. 💜

BTS are renowned for their versatility and impactful discography. I've been an ARMY (BTS fandom) for about 10 years and over this time they constantly changed and tried new things which most stay away from. BTS's discography spans various genres, including pop, hip-hop, R&B, EDM, and rock, showcasing their versatility and ability to experiment with different musical styles. Their albums often explore diverse themes such as youth empowerment, mental health, societal issues, and personal growth. BTS's discography includes: - 2 Cool 4 Skool (2013): BTS's debut single album introduced their hip-hop sound and youthful energy, marking the beginning of their journey in the music industry. - O!RUL8,2? (2013): This album delves into themes of adolescence, dreams, and struggles, reflecting BTS's early exploration of self-expression and identity. - Skool Luv Affair (2014): Skool Luv Affair explores the complexities of teenage love and relationships, showcasing BTS's growth as artists and storytellers. - Dark & Wild (2014): With a mix of hip-hop, R&B, and rock influences, Dark & Wild delves into darker themes such as inner conflicts, societal pressures, and personal struggles. - The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1 (2015): The first installment of the HYYH series, this album captures the excitement and uncertainty of youth, blending upbeat tracks with introspective lyrics. - The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 2 (2015): Part 2 of the HYYH series continues to explore themes of youth, friendship, and growing pains, with a focus on self-discovery and facing reality. - Wings (2016): Wings represents BTS's artistic maturity and experimentation, featuring diverse genres and complex narratives that delve into themes of temptation, desire, and redemption. - You Never Walk Alone (2017): As a reissue of Wings, You Never Walk Alone includes new tracks that further explore themes of perseverance, solidarity, and hope in the face of adversity. - Love Yourself: Her (2017): The beginning of the Love Yourself series, Her focuses on themes of self-love, acceptance, and embracing one's true identity, featuring catchy pop tracks with meaningful lyrics. - Love Yourself: Tear (2018): Tear delves deeper into the complexities of love and relationships, exploring themes of heartbreak, longing, and emotional vulnerability through a mix of genres. - Love Yourself: Answer (2018): Serving as the conclusion to the Love Yourself series, Answer reflects on the journey of self-discovery and growth, offering closure and empowerment through its uplifting messages. - Map of the Soul: Persona (2019): Persona introduces the Map of the Soul series, drawing inspiration from Carl Jung's theories of psychology to explore themes of identity, ego, and introspection. - Map of the Soul: 7 (2020): A reflection on BTS's seven-year journey since debut, Map of the Soul: 7 delves into themes of self-reflection, resilience, and the pursuit of one's dreams, celebrating both individual and collective growth. - BE (2020): Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, BE reflects on the challenges of the era and offers messages of hope, comfort, and unity, encouraging listeners to find strength in adversity and cherish the present moment. Each BTS album represents a distinct chapter in their musical evolution and storytelling journey, reflecting the group's growth as artists and individuals. Their versatility extends beyond their music to encompass various artistic endeavors, including choreography, fashion, visual storytelling, and social activism. They have consistently pushed boundaries and defied expectations, they are so much more then meets the eyes. They are True artists and the more you learn about them the more you will like them Sorry for the long comment ^^

I am 67, not the fan girl type ever and not into Kpop... BUT BTS is a very interesting group, musically (and otherwise) gifted, skilled and hard working. They got me interested in genres I bever cared about before because of the quality of their lyrics, the groove of their music and, if that wasn't enough, their amazing dancing skills, choreography and showmanship. Add that unlike a lot of young artists, they remain incredibly humble, savvy and caring. They have a genuine bond with each other and developed each as many skills as they could to master their business inside out. Each is impressive. Combined, they achieved something very rarely done, especially for a group of 7: synergy! They work hard, they goof just as hard but they always care for each other in an industry that didn't make it easy, attacking them on all front at any opportunity. Enjoy their huge discography, their many sounds and their deep, layered lyrics (the English translation is good but doesn't do justice to the nuances, innuendoes and cultural references. They are very well read. Check their speech at the U.N.

BTS songs can often be interpreted in different ways, just as how we can analyze a painting or a poem in different ways. For me, this song was a motivational war cry of sorts. I listened to it everyday before work during the pandemic. I work in healthcare and at the time, I was working out of a makeshift clinic in a recreation hall with no air-conditioning in tropical heat wearing PPE. By the time I was done, it felt like I had stepped out of a sauna. Day in and day out, it was the same thing over and over again as we tried to test as many migrant workers as possible, since the virus had broken out in these worker dormitories. This was pretty early on, when everyone was using PCR tests and self-test kits were not yet available. This song kept me going. I will never forget this song for that reason.

In terms of choreo, they often hire outside choreographers to make a piece for them and then the internal performance team at Hybe/Big Hit tweaks it. Hobi sometimes adds input as well. For this, it was Sienna Lalau who is out of The Lab and is absolutely brilliant. Shes also the first dancer you see in the video. She’s done other work for them as well as for other K-pop groups.

Ok, so both the MV and the Kinetic Manifesto film are great! The Kinetic Manifesto focuses on dancing while the MV follows an actual story. You should check out the MV Also, if you loved the meaning, you're gonna love their music. They mostly write deep and meaningful lyrics. They talk a lot about self-love, self-worth and their own inner turmoil. Black Swan is a perfect example of that 💜
