Installation was a breeze (no pun intended). It actually took longer to open the box then it did putting the side extenders on and sitting it in the window opening. It only snaps in to the bracket on the one side. It should just lower down on the side opposite the bracket.

ours is making the same loud noise and my husband simply pushed up on it and the noise ceased.

What if the wheel is brand new? I just replaced the fan because it wasn't working at all. Now it's working , but it's making that noise , when it's going off, not when I turn it on.

Can you see a high spot on the wheel when you turn it? Somewhere it might be rubbing? I'm guessing that sometimes they can even come warped straight out of the box.

Just get a new fan!

Exactly! When you need to start replacing parts on cheap electrical units best to buy a whole new one. The stuff around is just not worth the time...

How would we remove the metal case around the motor?

The housing unit is normally screwed into a wooden beam.
