Yeah, I was one of those guys that used to do all the repairs around the house. The first thing I would do is go to the breaker box and shut the power off to that circuit. Then unplug because of the heat up there the insulation could be brittle or the plug could be brittle and who wants to grab ahold of live wires and take a chance on having a bad day!

I have a friend who lost his house because of an exhaust fan. It was original and didn’t have a trip built into the fan. The motor froze up and It wasn’t enough to pop the breaker. It overheated and caught the house on fire while he was at work. He lost everything

The fan in our bathroom just broke. It sais manufactured in September '81 lol. They stopped making the model in '01 and stopped stocking replacement parts in '12

Took all of 10 minutes to remove cover and use old school pump oil can with oil and trans fluid I use on many things, probably old as me was my dads to lube it up, works like new. Brushless motors have no torque, takes very little to stop them. Don't even want to know what new one cost.

My bathroom fan is dying a slow death now. Was going to order a whole new unit, now I’m just going to find a motor. Easy as pineapples.

Hi Mark, the fan motor has a regular plug that connects to the housing. its like plugging in your vacuum cleaner. Appreciate your concern! :) Eric.

In new house, inspector had his head up his ass and I hadn't checked things behind him. Mine just hums, its froze up more or less, cheap magnetic motor, looks very similar to that. 1st I'll try monkey piss on it, previous owner was in no way mechanicaly inclined!

The whole point of the tweeter is to verify that you have live power why would you not shut off circuit breaker? Not to smart buddy

Hi Trackhoe, the fan motor plugs into the fan housing, there's no exposed wires. We use the non-contact tester to make sure the problem with the fan is not a lack of power from the switch. thx!

  • @roguepetunia

Trackhoe- step 1 he used non contact tester to assess if the problem was electrical. Result: there was power, so the problem is not electrical. Step 2 at 1 min 47 secs he unplugged the motor from the electrical outlet in the fan housing and replaced the motor safely. I’ve done the exact same in my house.

@@roguepetunia I tend to be very cautious with electric and once I knew the power was alive I myself would flip the circuit breaker but that’s me Yes all your points are completely valid but I’m the guy who throws the circuit breaker to change a light bulb lol ever sinse melted the end of a screw driver cause I wasn’t paying attention My fault but lesson learned cause I don’t do electric that much It’s the old adage “ be safe rather then sorry” Thanks for your explanation
