Always turn your blower on before you start a boat with a motor in a hatch. Gas fumes build up and you'll blow yourself up

Esysman just had a clip of a fumes explosion on his YT yachting news channel. It’s believed one of the guys on the boat above the explosion had his leg broken. In addition to venting the rear, I’d open the seat backs to the front compartment as well as a pocket of vapors could collect up there too.

The fan on the switch is called a “blower” its used to evacuate fuel fumes from the engine bay before you start the motor its very important. If you don’t have the hatch open before every start let it run for a minute or so…..failing to do this may result in an explosion

If you have not already fixed the bottom of the boat, I recommend some stuff called Marine Tex. It is a white or off white color two part system that will fix the bottom of the boat and will last. I had a friend actually saw through the bottom of his boat when he replaced the floor inside the boat. He used Marine Tex and never had any issues. It should actually hold up better than fiber glass and is easier to apply.

  • @JetSkiBuyFixPlaySellChannel

Marine Tex is ok for small spot patches. Not ideal for larger areas. Properly done fiberglass patch is a better repair.

Im just looking out for you buddy, that fan with the ripped hoses is for bilge venting and for safety reasons always have them functional and turn on BEFORE YOU START the boat it also helps to open the engine hatch when the boat has been sitting a while to help eliminate fumes. Thats also why the engine air cleaner on a boat is called A SPARK ARRESTOR. Safety first then enjoy.😊

That boat is equipped with a Morse MV Throttle Control Box. These were used on a lot of inboard ski boats. You can pull the silver colored knob out which disengages the shifting operation and lets you just use the handle to control the throttle. Push the button back in operate it with the shifting controls as normal. BTW, an RPM gauge is called a Tachometer.

As I replied to another user down in the comments, I worked for Polaris of Texas years ago. The first thing we always recommended to customers who got the two stroke watercraft and 4 wheelers was to disable the oil injection and just pre-mix the gas. Too many engines came through the shop that were damaged by lack of lubrication due to the oil injection failing. On the watercraft there were two lines coming from the gas tank. Your main and reserve. Just two pipes at different heights in the tank. We would recommend plugging off the main fitting and hooking the main line to the reserve fitting. The taking the reserve line and connecting it to the oil tank. The oil tanks held just over a gallon. So you got a full size main tank with a one gallon reserve. All with just swapping a couple of lines around.

  • @kencramer1697

@@kradios09 To be fair this was back in the late 1990's. All I know is that we had a large number of engine issues stemming from failed injection pumps. Specifically on the SL700 and SLT700. The mechanic that was there started the recommendation and since we were yard boys pressed into service we did not argue. So my experience may be different than other peoples. But by pre-mixing you never have to worry about it failing.

You need to replace the blower vent hose and use it before starting. Maybe a clothes dryer vent hose will work. As far as the hole in the bottom, fill the void with expanding foam, let it dry, sculpt it, and then do the fiberglass repair. I had a similar situation and that method worked for me. Great video, cool boat.

When I used to part out jet skis and some boats I would always received them with full tanks of gas so I bought an electric fuel pump from the parts store for like $30 bucks (the higher capacity the better) and attached like 5 foot of cheap5/16 or 3/8 fuel line to each end and ran like 15 ft. of electrical cord off it and used alligator clamps that would fit battery posts and had myself a fuel/oil transfer pump for cheap. Just run the hose into the tank or whatever and pump out retched gas or whatever. Worked great. It would even pump warm engine oil. Something like this would serve you well for future projects in your line of work.

Pretty sure we know what those cut Penzoil bottles are for! 😁 I’ll also chime in on the blower. Replace all that broken blower hose and definitely turn it on at least four minutes before starting the motor if you have the hatch closed. Agreed on pre-mixing the fuel. Those oil injectors are not always reliable. There’s more reasons to delete it than there are to keep it. With the motor working fine, hopefully the jet drive works just as well! A can of SeaFoam in the tank wouldn’t hurt to perk up that old gas and give the motor a cleanout. That’s probably a standard 28 gallon tank. Looking forward to the next video!

They were always a bit grumpy because everyone else had toys ( waterski, tube, hotdog, disk) and storage in their boats and room for all the stuff that keeps you happy out on the water. The people in the jet boats had nothing but a maxed out credit card 🤣😂. It truly is just a fat jet ski. But it’s well worth it for under $1000.

Fishing boat, Fun Boat and now a Funner Boat. What scores! I had a couple Seadoo Speedster Twin Jet Boats and you literally couldn't flip it at full speed and a sudden tight turn. Had many of my passengers on the floor, lol. That exhaust fan is to remove fuel fumes from the engine compartment "before" trying to start the motor. Very important to do this or only start with the compartment cover open. Fuel fumes and a spark will make a big BOOM.

If that boat is anything like the Yamaha "Exciter" of the same type they are a ton of fun but the Yamaha had twin 135 HP motors. I think polaris may have made something similar back then as well, can't remember.

Positive side of the impeller. Usually hooked up in either the stater vein area or coming off the side of the reduction nozzle.

A lot of them are Seadoo or Yamaha engines. The Seadoo ones with a single 720 engine are underpowered. With the dual engine Seadoo ones you have four carbs to clean and get properly setup as well as dual jet pumps / impellers to maintain. On the Yamaha Exciter dual engines ones you have six carbs to worry about / get properly rebuilt / adjusted. Royal nightmare. Not to mention dual electrical systems on the dual engine setups.

I was waiting for you to blow the ride plate off cranking it without any water running, for future reference NEVER try to start a sportjet 90,120,or 175hp without running water into that large black hose! You can make an adapter with simple Home Depot plumbing fittings that threads into a garden hose on one end and that black hose on the other which is a tapered fitting. These boats use part of the hull as the water box / muffler and gas fumes can accumulate in that cavity when you're cranking it if it's not starting and then when it does finally start it can ignite all of those fumes and blow that black ride plate right off the bottom of the boat.

Score of a lifetime, right there, if jet pump, prop, wear ring are good, but even then, huge lucky score. If you can get to the crack from inside, and grind sand, layer with fiberglass Matt, then that be better, to do both inside and outside area , hull crack. My jet ski's, that's what I did. I did 6 layers of Matt, with resin, each layer, 1st layer small, just a tad bigger then crack, then went 1 inch bigger each layer. I sanded each layer, make sure get dust off good and out of pits, each time. Before next layer, hard part 4 you, is its gonna wanna fall off, before it cures. I ripped my ski on its side, that helped. You may have to hold each layer, and use fast cure resin, and several pairs of gloves.

Bilge blower. Oh, I and " without further ado" Your welcome! Capture LOL! I Also not sure where you launched at but the rear light and the bilge is a requirement. Where I live you can get ticketed for not having them.

Question for you? What do you do with the bikes you fix up. Look like sometimes you will keep one. But mostly are you selling those? I use to have an 86 YZ 250 and after a couple back surgeries I did not think I would ever ride again so I gave it to my nephew I wanted to see it giving someone else the joy I had this was around 2003. I really miss it do you ever come across any 86 CR 250r’s if so and you fix it up and sell it I would be interested in it. The 1986 CR 250 or 86 YZ since I had that bike are of my favorites we use to go out to sand mountain and those 86 Cr 500 with a paddle tire could wheels up the face of sand mountain

You need a new vent tube for that blower Motor. You run that before you start it if the lid is down to vent out any gases so you don’t blow up

Hey. Man. I like your content and pup's! What's your opinion of putting a 2stroke V8 in a car? I know they Rev high. Specially with a turbo or supercharger

I like atf to free up piston rings but appears yours were good with 150 plus psi.

It was a blower you need to run before starting and while running incase of spark that could blow up the closed engine compartment because of gas fumes.

I had a 93 Searay Searaider jet with the 90hp Mercury sport jet engine. The boat itself was great and a lot of fun but the 90 and 120 engines were pure crap. In two years, I had to replace the stater, CD, broke a piston ring (rebuild) and the crankshaft broke at the fly wheel (picture a frisbee with teeth, spinning at 3000 RPM in the engine compartment). It also continually leaked oil between the engine and the impeller housing. Another problem with these engines was when you leave the water and then come back down, the sudden water grip would torque the crankshaft to a point of braking. After the third rebuild, I threw my hands up and sold it.

You definitely stole that one HAHA Your gonna have to direct inject the water into the hose. And like a few others said your fan is a blower for the motor bay to remove gasses before starting. Fix the flex hose for it. Nice ride can't wait to see it on the water.

There is always easy access to a water hose. No special nothing. I had a twin 120hp and i could loose everyone in the boat if they didnt know. Sandals amd drinks stay in boat. Sooo much fun

Nice score. I wouldn’t trust that oil injection system. Those systems are notorious for failing on these engines.

What a lekker boat, you're accumulating a flotilla. Clean, fix the crack, some seats, hope the impeller still is and off you go.

that crack is from launching or loading in rough conditions and slamming the boat down on the trailer. i had a similar crack in a deep V. lake Michigan boat.
