NOBODY TOLD ME
Everybody's talking and no-one says a word
Everybody's making love and no-one really cares
There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs
Always something happening and nothing going on
There's always something cooking and nothing in the pot
They're starving back in China so finish what you got
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed
Everybody's running and no-one makes a move
Well, everybody's a winner and nothing left to lose
There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu
Everybody's flying
And no-one leaves the ground
Well, everybody's crying
And no one makes a sound
There's a place for us in movies
You just gotta lay around
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed
Most peculiar, Mama
Everybody's smoking - no one's getting high
Everybody's flying and never touch the sky
There's UFOs over New York and I ain't too surprised
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed
Most peculiar, Mama
Roll!

You miss what Lennon made you feel and appreciate about him and about life... and how he approached life. And... I miss him, too... I especially miss his music -- and we still have that... but with him gone for almost 40 years now... his music doesn't have the same effect... BECAUSE he's gone ... it has a sad undertone, even though listening to him and Elton John doing "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" (LIVE) still moves us and makes us happy to have lived in the same era as The Beatles, and in the post-Beatles years, too... RIP John Lennon

Top singer song writers in my opinion. And this doesn't refer to who's the most entertaining but top top writers. In no particular order. Stevie wonder he had 3-4 albums that were masterclass as far as writing and so much fun to sing along to. His greatest work had to be " Songs in the key of life " a double album that entered Stevie's head after a bad car crash. He recovered from the accident and wrote songs like he was pouring water out of a bathtub. Prince: There is no album comes near the " Purple Rain " album. But again as years passed Prince kept proving he could write. Michael Jackson: Total genius writer and could make a hit from staring into a dumpster full of garbage. The writing of Paul McCartney is better than any of the last 3 artists I just mentioned and that is one heck of a thing to say. I lock John Lennon and McCartney into the same box. John was capable of trippier tracks than Paul, Paul had huge huge hits even the magic from WINGS was unreal. Tracks like , Let Em In , Silly Love Songs, Band On The Run, Nineteen Hundred And Eighty-five, With A Little Luck, Juniors Farm, the list goes on and on and on. But by an edge over Paul. Now Paul had in my mind 5 times the hits John had, But by a millimeter I give John Lennon the top singer songwriter of all time. John's songs were written with more use of manipulating the English language. The journey Paul's songs sent you on were as epic as the journey johns sent you on. But John with songs like : " How " Cold Turkey, Scared, Steal And Glass, Bless You, Jealous Guy, Woman, Just like Startin Over, Watching The Wheels , Nobody Told Me, Gimmie Some Truth, Mother, God. I mean you felt when you were singing Johns tracks that he had a real strong center inside him almost like he had a bus terminal inside his song writing and all us human beings were the buses pulling into the station for recharging. Its very hard to explain. I can say that I worship Paul McCartney's song. I love them that much. Listened to more of McCartney's material while being alive. But John wins the top spot. His song writing had a purity whereas Paul's a lot of it had chart climbing implants in it. Haha. John Lennon for me. The G.O.A.T. on writing songs for the world to enjoy. 26 minutes later after playing some Mccartney. The long version of With A little Luck. I return here to say ....mmmmm no Paul was the song writer of the planet of all time. Lets just say John is the bus terminal and Paul is the runway at the airport. Both are rocking talents. Jeeze Im arguing with myself here, hahahaaa.

The most overrated plonker who ever lived; anondyne lyrics, a self-regarding pagliacco who abused those around him. He thought that everything he said was witty or profound whereas, in fact his intellect and sense of humour never progressed beyond the 3rd form....in uni a friend gave me 'The Penguin John Lennon'. It was the most misspent 65 minutes of my life..chtildish babble from beginning to end..I returned it to the donor .This childman was a package, a commodity manufactured first by Brian Epstein and later by Yoko Ono. At least the latter managed to transform him from abusive narcissistic misogynist into an icon for the inane potsmoking brigade. She also carefully controlled every aspect of his life and also carefully tended his posthumous reputation... I could never understand what all the idolatry was about...well that's not true, strictly speaking, I do comprehend how the cult of personality can lobotomize millions. History demonstrates this time after time... AND I have always been skeptical of mass movements... The main beneficiary of the cult of Lennon is Yoko Ono prompting the old Latin question; "Cui bono?"🤔

I'm a Beatles fan , I have read about John a lot , as on most cases I don't think they loved each other as much as we presume , they separated for almost a year , when you truely love someone you don't separate just to experiment, they came back together because John was insecure and didn't know what to do with his life, once stuck with Yoko he had someone to manage his life. So basically the relationship was based on John's insecure behavior, John found in her someone who for money and Fame would allow him to be himself 'an insecure guy".

“Nobody told me there’d be days like these”. He wrote that line taking inspiration from The Shirelles ‘Mama Said’ as he lost his mother at such a young age, she wasn’t around to give him such advice. It’s incredible how John made several of the greatest and most defining records of the 80s and he was only alive for the first 12 months of it.

With all respect to the enormous output from Paul since 1963, I still rank John higher in songwriting and singing. Nobody has surpassed John in his incredible ability to pull emotional feelings to people from his songs! This is just one song of his 200+ that he makes people THINK about life, love, and peace! It has now been 3 days and 41 years, 1 year long than his life, since that awful Monday evening in Dec. 1980. R.I.P. to one of the finest and greatest musical influences that we had the privilege to have for the short time he had! John Winston Lennon, 40 (Oct. 9, 1940 Liverpool, England - Dec. 8, 1980 New York City, NY).

Well different artists have different life experiences that's part of why John left Paul still wanted to write fluff and pop songs and John thought that immature like he said he did not want to be singing I want to hold your hand still at 70 he was a grown man he outgrew that more cynical yes but Yoko understood the harsh realities that is why they were so compatible.

I think they were equal! They were very different writers and singers. I think some of John’s solo work was good and I thought Paul’s was just as good or better. Some of John’s music had too much Yoko which was horrible. Double fantasy was his best solo album in my opinion.

I am not sure they truly loved each other. Maybe they were in love indeed. It is possible. But i can't see it when they are together. I see a submissive man in a sort of addiction to a mama. He always looked sort of sad next to her. And looked happy when she was not around. At the end...he was so thin and looked older than he was, as if he was sick. No. Love for me is different.

This song was released after his assassination. Whenever I hear it, I think about each of our last days on Earth. We wake wake up unaware of its finality. I used to be a Pathology Assistant. I remember one morning untying the laces of a young man's work boot who was about to be autopsied. He had died the night before in a road rage run over. It hit me that when he tied this knot a day ago, he didn't expect me to be untying it in the autopsy room the next day. Strange days indeed.

Have you ever really listen to what he was saying in the songs that he wrote. Strawberry Fields do you know what he was reminded of? If he were alive today I know that he would have been a person who would have shown people how blessed we are. Today is 5yrs since I lost my daughter Crystal to brain cancer. Every day I have to be reminded of how to make sure I have the strength to go on until the Good Lord calls me home. Another one of Lennon's genius songs. This song is so deceptively simple. I never realized how many changes in this song until I played it one day. Also rhythmically, there is that weird gallop kind of shuffle; that is almost only implied. It reminds me of Lennon's part in 'All my Loving' that drives the song along, but is understated.

And that's not even mentioning his vocals, where syllables are accented unpredictably when compared to the page. Yeah, this song's pretty good evidence of his genius

I'd just started in a new school when this came out and it seemed to sum up how I was feeling perfectly. The humour in it gave me a little flash of hope for the future and I got through it. John Lennon seemed to pack two lifetimes into his 40 years, he did a crazy amount of stuff. Almost like he knew his time was limited. Who knows what he would have gone on to do? We can only guess. Nobody can ever take away his greatness. It's with us forever and so is he.
