Agree, just not together as I saw in a recent video outside of this channel. She used both vinegar and baking soda to wash the orange before zesting. That doesn't work because vinegar is acidic and baking soda alkali, which neutralizes each other making them ineffective. May as well use only water. I prefer baking soda myself when it comes to washing my fruit before zesting. Might be just my imagination, but I sometimes wonder if the pungent vinegar wouldn't somehow compromise the flavor of the zest.

As to the grill trick, it also works for the oven as well as cooking pans. If you run a hot cooking pan under tap water, it will lift almost all of the hard to clean stuff. I know, it's called "deglazing", but folks usually think of that with sauces. Works for cleaning too.

@@genie5251 I have thick pans and they're ceramic coated. I have never, ever, had a pan warp. Also, I've cleaned many a coffee pot with ice put into hot water and have never had a carafe break. Boil water in the bottom of the carafe and let it cool a bit (because that's where most of the coffee stains are), put ice in the water and swirl. The ice (while it's solid) will "scrub" the carafe. Yes, if you add ice to a hot carafe without any water in it, it will likely shatter.

I love the difference in the size of "garbage" cans here in the US as opposed to the EU. You had what I'm assuming is about an 8 gallon can. In the US, most kitchens have a 13 gallon or larger. That's because, here in the US, we're totally inept at recycling. We also use more packaging. Everything is wrapped in plastic, everything is pasteurized (totally unnecessary ... except when you're pregnant), no one can recycle most of the plastic packaging. Cheese mongers, fresh artisan charcuterie fairings of any kind, boulangeries, and weekly organic markets are almost non-existent. Matter of fact, organic is twice as expensive as non-organic. Most of the fruits in the stores are coated in wax, nearly everything else is gas ripened in a truck. Pre-packaged is the most common food, which has added sugar, chemicals I can't identify, and enough salt to dehydrate a bouquet of flowers. We have dear friends in a small village in France. When we visit, I feel like I can breathe and I leave feeling lighter and healthier. The US isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I been living in US for 54 years and never bought boxes of ready food ! The only can I buy is tomato paste ( freeze the tomatoes during summer that is cheaper and some from my garden ) cook from scratch with fresh season vegetables ( it is cheaper ) I make my own bread and yogurt every week 🤷🏼‍♀️compost all my kitchen scrap for my vegetables and flowers and herb pot ( I live in MN so gardening is shorter then the warmer state 😢I am originally Persian and worked 128 hours in 2 weeks until I retired 10 years ago 😏I am telling you all this because you can eat healthy even in America that is notting healthy in store . I have been doing it for 54 years not easy but possible 😏

These are all choices that we can make here or there. Most people here in the USA that grew up on a farm or continue to live a farm type life can easily do without all the modern convinces of processed foods and goods. I was raised with a backyard vegetable garden and fresh eggs from our chickens. I still do this to this day.

Using citric acid (lemon juice) or apple cider vinegar turns calcium crusts into calcium citrate, which is an easily removed small and soft crystalline scale. The same reason for drinking lemon juice or ACV for kidney calcium stones - helps dissolve and remove them from the body.

I love using vinegar to clean where I can. Actually, that first example of that mineral scale is nothing compared to what everything in the kitchen and bath looks like as we have very hard well water. What works better on the calcium and lime is Apple cider vinegar, especially when you can figure out a way to allow it to sit for 15-30 minutes. Borax is also a wonderful cleaner for all kinds of things. CAUTION: Do NOT mix Borax with vinegar! Nothing bad will happen to you, but it will set up like concrete within about 30 seconds of being fully mixed. I know, I tried to make a paste without considering the chemistry. Boy, was a surprised!!

@ELLOGANT it works really well with grated parmesan and I also sometimes put things like powdered garlic or chilli on too, adds a reaĺy interesting twist. I don't have a microwave, I use my airfryer. Patricia

When I use my grill, I have 2 or 3 wet paper towels laid aside. As soon as I get my food out, I turn off the grill, lay down the wet towels on the grill ribs, and close the top. After we eat, I open the grill, take off the grates and they wash clean very easy.

The Science doesn't agree with Vinegar added to dish soap getting rid of lime scale. Vinegar is acidic & soap is alkaline. For lime scale, you can mix the vinegar with lemon juice or use baking soda and salt.
