Noam Chomsky weighs in on Afghanistan

Noam Chomsky - legendary American historian, political activist, and founder of modern linguistics - believes that the most basic reason for US failure in Afghanistan was America’s intelligence information, which is rarely accurate. One of the most influential public intellectuals in the world with over 100 published books, he shared with Gulf News his views on some of the most pressing current global issues.

As usual, Chomsky nails it. I served as a medical corpsman in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. This was when the brass said they "could see the light at the end of tunnel." But the wounded, months before the Tet Offensive, told me the war was over in military terms. The NVA just refused to give up despite the terrible casualties we inflicted on them because we had superior air power.. Chomsky's a national treasure despite how the corporate MSM has marginalized him for his insights. He should have awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace long ago. I really admire him.

Thank you, brother. i've checked and rechecked what Chomsky has said and written for decades, at least what i can get a hold of, and, as implausible as it sounds, he has never been wrong. ... He's a prime example, for all of us, of how to deal with problems. He simply doesn't allow emotions to interfere with rational thought. He works from the information he has available. And he gets that information from the fact that he reads everything! Plus the fact he has a remarkable memory.

Sorry sweety you are not British. You are a lady of Afro descent and as such you do not carry our DNA. That being my grandfather's DNA that led to him lying to the British army he was 16 when he was only 15. Alongside his Lancashie "pals" regiment he fought, killed and witnessed his buddies being blown to pieces. At just 16 he was in charge of two horses "tommy" and "mary" and his job was to get the gun carriage to the front lines. At the end of WWI he refused to allow his horses to be sold for horse meat at the local French market. He saved them from the auction resulting in them being shipped back to England. This is the type of honour and integrity that is in our English DNA. If you hate what the British did what is your guilt about the actions of your ancestors in the 16th Century when barbary coast pirates sailing down the English channel raided English ports to enslave mainly fair haired, blue eyed women? This form of slavery pre-dates that of the Europeans shipping black Africans off to the Americas. This historical truth is never mentioned in this woke and insanely PC world. Also never mentioned by BLM. VERITAS VOS LIBERABIT

Because the politicians do what they think will get them the votes. They whip the ignorant section of the public into a frenzy over xenophobia and the "we are the greatest" speech. It works every time. There are no short term benefits to getting elected or increasing wealth at the top by following Chomsky's advice. America's oligarchy have no interest in the long run. Its not lessons learnt its the American ruling class power system and how it works. Afghanistan was profitable , it cost 2 trillion dollars from which many companies and individuals got paydays, that's the point, no lesson that they want to learn except " where's the next war and next fortune to be made". The only failure from the military part of the ruling class is that Afghanistan made a mockery of counter insurgency and and could not be pacified or subdued and play its part as a base for American empire. There is no over riding moral political philosophical ideal at play except as the lie knowingly used to fool and create consent in the American public for war and empire building.

I think the point needs to be made that "cost" 2 trillion dollars means the American people put up $2Tr which then goes straight to corporations, apart from military wages, which in turn means that $2Tr worth of the labour of the American people (minus military wages) has been forcibly handed over to corporations, which, again, in turn means that the American people have been enslaved, to the tune of $2Tr, by corporations. This is the real meaning of the Orwellian concept of 'permanent war'.
