Whenever one thinks they've heard every thing there's to hear from Chomsky he's always got something new to teach! He's the greatest public intellectual to consistently speak truth to power even if some of his views feel a little jaded. Throughout his career nobody has been able to debate Chomsky head on! @@jeremyramey3221 With all respect, what does your 2 tours of service have to do with what we're discussing? US foreign policy is the subject of the video, all this suffering could've been avoided, but US government wanted a blank cheque to do whatever they want however they want, this is a reccuring pattern in most of post-wwii history, and sadly people never learned the lesson. And why is that? Because nobody really cares about any of the ruins of nations US has left behind after every little 'war on .. idunno ..something'. People completely forget and go about their ordinary lives even after seeing the terrorized Afghans flocking to airports. This is the stuff of nightmares .. Why you take it as 'fake outrage' is beyond my thinking.

It's was not about showing muscles. They had a problem with talibans ideology there was no way they would allow an Islamist group to form a successfull government. Talibans success was contagious and many others were inspired by them and wanted Sharia in thier country. If taliban had somehow managed to run the country successfully which was unlikely then you would see many more Islamists taking it as a model and trying it in thier own country which would challenge the status quo.

The American politicians and oil corporations had no business, no business sticking their noses in Saudi Arabia, way before 20 years ago actually, in fact it was in the 50’s that this started. When this oil company made base in Sauddia Arabia, the Saudi’s Arabians loved it because it was making them very rich and very very wealthy. But among all that, the US asked if they can put just a tiny “little” military base there, just for “ yours and their” protection. While several other Middle East counties around them, where like, “dudes, what the fuck”, what are you doing mingling with the US like this? And taking away our religious values and moral values, like this? More later.

Iraq invasion alone killed little less than a million iraqi civilians and the violence was committed by west. More particularly so in vietnam, because vietnam war was an ideological war for the west, the people who were killed were killed for triumph of western values over communist values. Why will it not be called "christian violence" ?

Certainly not the end of the American empire. But one should not underestimate the long term effects of losing face. Afghanistan looks like a failure, even if it wasn't that for the military industrial complex (in terms of money made, in terms of military objectives it was also a failure). This perception is heightened in the case of Afghanistan "the graveyard of empires". People might not think the US empire is going to end now. But potential allies will think twice about relying on the US instead of Russia or China or a local power. Many will think that even if they can't win against the US, they can wait them out. The public at large will remember Afghanistan as a failure and this will feed the perception that the US can no longer deliver what it promises. It is impossible for me to predict how big of an effect this will have and how it will show up materially around the world. But I'm confident this effect will still influence the future and probably in ways that undermine US hegemony.

empires have disappeared quickly, but the usa imperium will not be so easy. the grossly over-developed military will be a commanding force for the foreseeable future, and will be supported by allies co-opted with bribery, threats and assassination. the economic basis will weaken but so long as the military enjoys an adequate standard of living, the civilians can be bled. chomsky saw through the national myth very long ago, but has not come up with any useful ideas to change things. no shame in that - nation-empires are a very large ship of state, with no real steering mechanism. usa was designed to be 'stable,' the people on top at the birth were slave plantation plutocrats whose motto was "nobody move!" and so we have stasis, until some catastrophic war ruins the military power. and the planet.

In other words, they don’t know any better. b) Envious non-USA citizens. Very similar to non-Yankee fans who hate the Yankees because they’re the best. c) Moderately/deeply troubled human beings, who have struggled finding that pillar in life that keeps them grounded to reality.
