I could listen to Chomsky for days. In fact I'd substitute my entire International Relations course in college for just listening to hours of Chomsky!
Chomsky taught me how to fish. He uses the question, "Is the Media too liberal?" as an example of a pre-fabricated framework within which we are supposed to argue: consent by design. We learn to listen for what is implicit. We teach about the questions we are asked and what they tell about the questioners.
Barat: Professor Chomsky, thank you very much! Chomsky: :) Barat: :^) Chomsky: :>

Oh man that was hilarious
This guy is so much smarter, so much more informed, than any of those daily newspaper clowns or the TV and radio buffoons.
Thanks for posting this. It always amazes me that as much Chomsky I've read and heard I can still find clips like this where he says new interesting thing. The discussion so far about language and intellectuals is fascinating.
A pleasure listening to this brilliant, brilliant man.
U.S. Major General Smedley Butler: " I spent 33 years and 4 months in active military service . . . And during that period I spent most of my time as a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. Thus, I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927, I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Our boys were sent off to die with beautiful ideals painted in front of them. No one told them that dollars and cents were the real reason they were marching off to kill and die.” www.americanswhotellthetruth.org/portraits/major-general-smedley-butler?fbclid=IwAR18mjqIVZZOqQS8g6VmTeTWEpHtoIv5AnkNC2Nef5yIaMF38I67RjHkNQ8

Yes. Absolutely.
Cheers bro!
with chomsky now well into his 80s now Im sad to think hes not gonna be around forever. ive always looked to his interviews and books for the truth and a rational outlook on world affairs.
Great to hear Noam Chomsky answer a question by Chris Hedges!
Many thanks for uploading this video! Please upload more of Chomsky!
If many of the dots presented to your fellow Americans by the MSM do not seem to connect, that's because they don't. NC reveals why. Help your neighbors extricate themselves from the tangled web of deceit by asking them if these MSM bits of information make sense. Point out the inconsistencies & compel them to think. Noam understands the true meaning of democracy, and so should you. Speak up often & clearly. Democracy demands unconfused attention by a significant electorate.
I really liked his answer to Chris Hedges' question. Told me a lot of things I didn't know about before.
13 years, nothing has changed. And Chomsky is correct saying nothing had changed in the 30 years leading up to this interview.
The definitions of words change over time to meet the needs of people, groups, States, religion, philosophy, confusion and deceit. As I see it words are our way of limping through or taking advantage of communication and it will never end.
Seriously, dude. Best comment ever.
@VVillowz He didn't get censored, I don't think. I think the sound just diminished for some (unexplained) technical reason.
10:41 did a european edit this video? (the volume went down when he criticized us xD)
you got it buddy
If Chomsky's mind was a library I could live my entire life there. I wonder what the rent would be...
@MrROTD yes yes yes. this is the most important thing for us to understand today
true, but they have made it harder to move videos around within your playlists. I like the old setup where you could move around videos at bottom of screen, instead of having to always go to manage playlists. I guess perhaps I am ill and everything is getting tiring.
you doo know you can make playlists on youtube right?
11.00 luv what he says about Turkey
good tip, put your glass of water on the side where you won;t be putting your head in front of the camera everytime you reach for it

6:34 "There were a handful of exceptions. Like Bertrand Russell in England, or Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht in Germany, Eugene Debs in the United States. They were all in jail."
Who will take the mantle from this great man? Someone, anyone?
I am not a follower of all this living forever and genetic research into life prolongation and what have you but please PUT ALL THE MONEY AVAILABLE FOR RESEARCH INTO KEEPING THIS GUY AROUND FOR A LOOOOOOOOOONG TIME!!
Alice Walker's question is at 35:04.
Why are there so many hate posts associated to this video in the comments?
@ronanburtens hope you do a lot more than listening
@MrROTD Throughout history, advances in finance have driven many of the world's great innovations. The Medici's funding great achievements in the Renaissance, the joint-stock companies promoting exploration in mercantile times, etc. I don't think financial institutions are useless, but they do have to be regulated and some of its markets, like credit default swaps, are not only useless but dangerous. A very good book to read on this topic is Niall Ferguson's book "The Ascent of Money."
Awesome video, bad lighting
i just do both.
@augerrusty HE DID?!?!?!?!?!??! lol i just turned this video on and saw ur comment.. though Hedges is very "EMO" he has every right to be at this state of madness in the world
@VVillowz "I have to laugh when I come to Europe and hear people complaining about how the Turks are not civilised enough to join their advanced society. They can learn some lessons from Turkey. And that is pretty unusual. In fact it is so unusual that it is barely known, you can't bring it up. But aside from the word 'loss', I think Chris Hedges' comments are accurate, but I just can't perceive any loss."
He may be getting on now but he still has more marbles than most humans can lay claim to.
@watayapupuya emotional..like i dont say that to knock him..since he was a war correspondant and has seen the most horrofic things..but he speaks with alot of emotion
22:00 How do we overcome sectarianism on the left? 33:45 How appealing different progressive movements are to the general population
he keeps saying the same things , like a prophet
Interesting that he doesn't mention Gore Vidal as a respected intellectual, and vice-versa. Gors to show that even the good compete for the foremost place,

10:52 hmm..
Agree, excellent example inappropriate English speaking skills for the task.
He's right about the financial institution being pretty useless and totally non-productive, think about it, what does shuffling a bunch of money result in? nothing except concentration of wealth in the hands of a favoured few.
In doing so you'd learn far more, far better, and far more accurate information about International Relations and then fail the course
I thought he was going to be method acting
You mean 'people' not 'personalities.'
Why do you need someone else to explain it to you ...
I think a lot of the current Palestinian movement is kind of Code-Pink-ized: trying to line up celebrities to back them in order to build awareness. I'm not a big fan of that, but perhaps it's what's necessary. I'd like to think not, and kind of actually think not, but hold open the possibility that it's my own preciousness.
Is he saying we should give illegal immigrants the same rights as citizens?

@underdogmedia EXCUSE ME? I think you missunderstood ...i replied to someone in which that commenter said that Chomsky only criticizes the right-wing politicians,or something to that effect... im not sure what you're implying with "the likes of you" line. It makes me doubt that you are capable to make an intelligent exchange of opinions. Therefore i dont see the point in continuing to debate with "the likes of you" ;) cheers !
he fiercely criticized many important left-wing intellectuals or politicians. See what he says about Obama ,Clinton, J.F.K. ...etc.
Try to do some thinking instead. The guy is smart and interesting, but he is answering all questions as not to provoke anyone on the left. Why?
Sinister Chomsky.
Best opposition money can buy. INGSOC operative is he, little one.
