I could listen to Chomsky for days. In fact I'd substitute my entire International Relations course in college for just listening to hours of Chomsky!

Chomsky taught me how to fish. He uses the question, "Is the Media too liberal?" as an example of a pre-fabricated framework within which we are supposed to argue: consent by design. We learn to listen for what is implicit. We teach about the questions we are asked and what they tell about the questioners.

Thanks for posting this. It always amazes me that as much Chomsky I've read and heard I can still find clips like this where he says new interesting thing. The discussion so far about language and intellectuals is fascinating.

U.S. Major General Smedley Butler: " I spent 33 years and 4 months in active military service . . . And during that period I spent most of my time as a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. Thus, I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927, I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Our boys were sent off to die with beautiful ideals painted in front of them. No one told them that dollars and cents were the real reason they were marching off to kill and die.” www.americanswhotellthetruth.org/portraits/major-general-smedley-butler?fbclid=IwAR18mjqIVZZOqQS8g6VmTeTWEpHtoIv5AnkNC2Nef5yIaMF38I67RjHkNQ8

If many of the dots presented to your fellow Americans by the MSM do not seem to connect, that's because they don't. NC reveals why. Help your neighbors extricate themselves from the tangled web of deceit by asking them if these MSM bits of information make sense. Point out the inconsistencies & compel them to think. Noam understands the true meaning of democracy, and so should you. Speak up often & clearly. Democracy demands unconfused attention by a significant electorate.

The definitions of words change over time to meet the needs of people, groups, States, religion, philosophy, confusion and deceit. As I see it words are our way of limping through or taking advantage of communication and it will never end.

@MrROTD Throughout history, advances in finance have driven many of the world's great innovations. The Medici's funding great achievements in the Renaissance, the joint-stock companies promoting exploration in mercantile times, etc. I don't think financial institutions are useless, but they do have to be regulated and some of its markets, like credit default swaps, are not only useless but dangerous. A very good book to read on this topic is Niall Ferguson's book "The Ascent of Money."

And that is pretty unusual. In fact it is so unusual that it is barely known, you can't bring it up. I think a lot of the current Palestinian movement is kind of Code-Pink-ized: trying to line up celebrities to back them in order to build awareness. I'm not a big fan of that, but perhaps it's what's necessary. I'd like to think not, and kind of actually think not, but hold open the possibility that it's my own preciousness.
