    @@yfexl-1584 The short answer is control, the long answer is tax and money. If allowing people to drink in public, people can buy alcohol at the market at lower prices and pay less in taxes. Forcing people to buy and drink only at certain locations, you have to pay higher prices, create more jobs and collect more taxes. Also, guns and alcohol don't go well together and since you can't banned guns, it's easier to control alcohol.

    Having lived in China for many years, I would say the best part is not having to worry too much about safety. There's never really a risk of being robbed or held at gun point and the cities are quite nice to walk around in at night. I lived in SF for a number of years, and it's terrifying to see how crime and homelessness became so prevalent in the city.

    Yup. Except for the young party set Americans don't venture out at night time much because risk to personal safety is too great. I would personally call that a human rights violation but others will call it a personal choice...one that is enforced by, erh, circumstances.

    Now, you know u may need a year or more if you wanted to know China deeper, not just big cities but places like Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, even Tibet 😂😂😂😂 You will definitely be impressed by the variety of cultures and languages and it's own character and beauties of each place in China, but yet all live in harmony, this is the Chinese type of democracy, don't be brain washed by the biased western medias ❤❤❤❤❤

    Shanghai is great. We lived and worked in a gritty poor city in Anhui Province about an hour flight to Shanghai. It was like going to a different planet when we left our third world location on the murky Yangtze River to enjoy the first tier city. Outside of the traffic, street hawkers, people who wanted pictures of foreigners and intense air pollution it’s a fun place.

    The most comfortable thing in China is safety. I believe that personal life and property safety is the highest priority and a fundamental prerequisite for freedom. you can let go of all your guard and do what you want, is it not the greatest freedom?

Once you are picked you can not escape, the guns the smiling police officer carry are not for show. United states is the biggest tyranny of democracy. You are forced to be used by the court. No political freedom at all. It's just stupid to think that only the west way of governance is self governance. I would say it is one of the inferior type of self governance especially compared to the Chinese system.

    Xintiandi is not as happening as it use to be years ago. Brown Sugar and CFW were great places with live music. Both gone now. Calix is still there I see. Kind of cool place, used to get some live music not sure they still do.

    There's no law about drinking in public so it is perfectly legal. In addition, there's no minimal drinking/smoking age in China. Chinese law is more relax in this area compared to that of USA.

    Thank you for showing me my hometown, I MISS Shanghai ;(. You can’t even walk around at night in SF,CA without worrying about personal safety and there is not much to see anyway.     This is not the nightlife in Shanghai, the nightlife there is like the nightlife in Manhattan or LA, but 10 folds larger every single night and not just Friday or Saturday nights. Venues like MAO Live House are packed with live gigs and are packed full to the hilt every single night unlike in the US which is just a weekend thing.

    night life has a different meaning in China or even the east south Asia...they have a clubing bar hopping night life too but drinking is so so so so so free there that it redefined bar hopping so the night life in China is for everyone from eating clubbing and just all entertainment you like... not like most of the west where at 7 o'clock the place is dead for only selected place only... lol that's night call night life.....and like most people speaking on this... you are 99 percent not going to get shot...

    @@morganangel340 the reality is they can’t stay,there is no millions students,only 120000. chinese students only have 15%can get visa.india is 60%.and i just heard i chinese students Ranked No. 1 in the United States,But still rejected by all the schools he applied to. even finished college in us. they still cannot get work visa, in fact i know 3 persons go to the college in Us, they all back to china bcs Unable to find a company willing to help them apply for a work visa within the validity period of the student visa. you can see there is very safe place,but they work much harder than Americans . only get 20% of the wages in the United States.and no freedom of speech,been locked in covid,their pet get killed. actually maybe they don’t care is america or europe or japan or australia..many of them just want to leave china, maybe you craving a safe place in us,but we craving freedom and justice in china .and in my personal experience,Shanghainese are now the most fleeing China because they were treated badly during the pandemic

Australia comes second among the countries with students from China, 155,594 students. 122,140 international students from China have chosen the United Kingdom to study abroad. That's at this point... over time they were MILLIONS. And some years ago China was not as developed as it is today, and still not so many choose ''Freedom and Democracy''

    Yes.. i am from the eu. but i live in wuhan.. after work i drink my beer way to home. walking and drinking..sitting on a bench relaxing and after that in the evening i am going to a club or a bar..lots of westerner meets at a bar..enjoy dance drink..and late at night we go home..so freely.. just don`t drive after drink.. drug and using gun is a big trouble in China. even do not think about it.

    FYI, "X" in chinese pinyin is pronounced "sh", not "ch". The place you visited, Xintiandi, therefore is called "Shin Tee-en Dee". It means New World, a very popular spot to hang out for tourists and locals alike.

    Well, technically it's not pronounced as "sh" nor "ch", it's just more similar to "sh". I don't think there's such a "X" pronunciation in english. So new stuff to learn. :)

    I played ice hockey in Shanghai for 2 years semi-professionally and you know I spoke the language and everything and when I extremely happy somedays and extremely depressed somedays. China is a very interesting place and one word that describes China perfectly is 矛盾 I leave it to you guys to research and explore the philosophy behind that Chinese character.

    Hell yeah amigo! Looks like you’re having a great adventure. I’ve been wandering around asia for a pretty long time now. Fucking love it here. I know this is a huge generalization but Asian people make really nice societies. Polite, safe, innovative, affordable, etc. I’ve been meaning to go back to the states for months now but just can’t muster up the will to leave.

    Yep, this is Shanghai's Xintiandi. One of the best place to hangout along with Pudong, Nanjing Rd, the bund, and with less popular but really good area like Huahai Rd, Xujiahui

    shin-tian-dee and i love that area!!! if you havent already go clubbing at INS in fuxing park my personal fave is La Fin which is at the 6th floor in the building in fuxing park

    作为在南方多座城市生活过,并且在北京也住过两年的南方人来说:我更喜欢的是北京的天气,比南方好了太多。南方太过潮湿了,到了夏天雨季没完没了下雨;冬天又是湿冷,同样过完冬至后又几乎天天下雨。 但是城区精致度来说,我感觉南方的不少城市要更胜一筹,也许是因为北京的老建筑太多,加上摊的太大的原因吧。
