No More Widebodies? American Airlines Removing Boeing 777 & 787 Between Miami & LAX
Ойын-сауық
American Airlines will be making a drastic change to its popular hub-to-hub route between Miami International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. This fall, the carrier will schedule all flights on the route to be operated by narrowbody aircraft.
The shakeup is somewhat unlike the airline as it has traditionally flown widebodies between the two cities for decades. The move also represents the loss of its most premium products, Flagship First and Flagship Business, which won’t be seen on the narrowbodies filling the role.

Inevitable - not many passengers will pay 4x the economy fair for a 4 hour flight.

the real reason is that nobody wants to fly to communist california. all the californians are FLEEING the state to Florida. so they can only fill the plane on one direction.

Takes 4 hours to get from LAX to MIA? I want to take THAT flight.
This is what happens when you get rid of the 757/767

Both were elderly aircraft with high maintenance costs and fuel burn. They can't keep geriatric planes flying just because you like them.
It's a shame because widebody aircraft are so much comfier

Care to explain how? That would only depend upon the seats and seating-pattern chosen by the airlines.

Surprised they didn't put that old DC 3 they have on the route
I think some of the hub to hub widebody flights were for aircraft positioning to fly long haul routes. I know Delta flies the A-350 from Europe to Atlanta which then goes to LAX and later on to SYD

It is better to offer more flights per day with smaller planes than to reduce the slots and use larger aircraft.
I'm starting to realize I liked it better in the yester years when planes were bigger both because of technological limitations and federal laws. The narrow bodies feel significantly less spacious than the widebodies
more economical and flexibility with narrowbodies.
Im quite sad for this news

No!!!! Thanks for the update.. I was looking for the 787 or 777 lax to mia and it wasn't appearing anymore.. I can't stop wondering why now..lol..
In one hand these domestic wide bodies should have been configured different but on the other hand, they need flexibility to schedule long haul flights too.
Yes
What about CLT’s 772’s between those 2 airports?
One thing worth mentioning is the addition of Alaska to the OWA and their addition of west to east flights. Example the LAX to ft Lauderdale flight.
I also heard that they’ll be removing the 777-20R from the MIA-CLT route in September, is this true?
American packs more seats in economy class than any other legacy carriers. I don't want to spend hours in the sardine class between MIA and LAX.

Seems to make sense.
This is ridiculous… it’s been doing this for the last 20 years at least.
You've made my day with this video
Lucky I just recently flew in first on the 777 on this route. Shame it’s going away
Typically 777 & 787 pilots are very senior. Read: costly. Add in the savings using NB aircraft and the increase in frequency, which offers customers more choices...it was inevitable.
I flew the Boeing 777-200ER and 300ER between MIA and JFK and I'm curious if thats at risk, ( It's a more popular route than MIA -> LAX )
No more flying theaters.
Simply convert some widebodies for domestic use only.
Makes financial sense
Maybe they’ll put the A321XLR on the route the way they use A321Ts on JFK-LAX
It’s smart but narrow bodies can be boring😂
Non Rev travel will be rough now
Wheres the line between wide bodied and narrow bodied?
@KyrilPG
12 күн бұрын
One or two aisles, that's usually the difference. The B757 or A321 are quite similar in capacity to the 767-200 or A310, but the former ones have only 1 aisle and, therefore, are narrow bodies, while the latter ones are wide bodies with 2 aisles.

@davidwebb Wide bodied aircraft have 2 aisles while narrow bodies only have one.
Smaller planes going more often sounds better, if the economy price is about the same.
Biggest problem is lack of wide body deliveries from Boeing. Should have kept the 25 A350 orders & parked the A330s. Perhaps why EVP & Chief Commercial Officer Raja was fired.
I thought their flagship first class service was the best back in the 90s
Delta did that years ago
It’s a business move so I get it
But where the money is made is by its cargo capacity more them passengers.. But 🤷🏽♂️
The route is too short for business class
Money Money Money
I think it's a good decision Wide Body AIRCRAFT good for long 7 or 8 hr. Flights !! All about profit ,money and what makes sense!! ❤THUMBS UP TO AMERICAN AIRLINES
