When I upgrade, change phones, recycle phones, or change the backup order in which I place my phones for emergency use, the removable SD card is what makes my choices possible. When facing the alien landscape of a newly purchased phone, the solid rock of familiarity that my removable SD card provides is priceless. My files are right where I need them to be - instantly. What people may not understand is that the main reason why sd card users like having it around is the convenience of just having it there. I honestly don't care about the storage speeds. Having my music or photos on the go is something I always appreciate. Cloud storage is great and all but it sucks that you may not be able to access some of your stuff just because your internet is acting up. The other reason I like having an sd card is that I want to conserve my internal storage. I reserve it for apps.

That's the exact same reason for me. Like I've already got 64 gigabytes of photos and videos on my 64GB SD card in my current phone (S9+). Now imagine if that phone didn't have an SD card slot, the 64GB of internal storage would be full to the max! Now If I were to buy the S21U and put all my photos and videos on there, 64GB of the 256GB internal storage would be taken up straight away. And if I were to keep that phone for 4 years, there would be no way in hell to fit all my photos and videos that I would've taken over the years on that phone. Especially if the phone records high quality videos and takes photos with large file sizes. It's just gob shite that they expect that 128GB or even 256GB of internal storage is enough. Just ridiculous.

It shouldn't be difficult to find a high-powered phone that retains a MicroSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack; they're such basic and small features we've had on devices since the mid-late 2000s. I understand that not everyone is going to need or use an SD card. But that's no reason to ignore those who will. In my case, I prefer to have a card with an additional 256-512GB of space. Primarily because I store and rip videos to my devices, buy music files and keep many of my images on the card. Internal storage is reserved for apps and maybe documents. Apps not being allowed to be moved to the SD card is something that I can get behind, due to the difference in performance speed. But photos, videos, music and documents don't have those limitations. Maybe when you start going 4K@60 FPS, but the vast majority of people record their videos at smaller resolutions or at 30 FPS. And an expandable memory cannot be costly to implement. Most of the lower-range and mid-range phones support them. While I think every non-Apple device has no reason to launch without an SD card, I agree with the point brought up in the video. If a company is going to release a phone without expandable storage, it should be 256GB minimum.

Yes indeed, but it's not as convenient as a dedicated port. You can't just take your device and film into the USB-C right away, you first have to connect the USB-C device and set it as the destination for the camera app each time, because the path will go on and off as you connect and disconnect via USB-C, means you can't just set the USB-C path as a permanent path because sometimes it doesn't connected and doesn't exist which introduce a whole new level of a (unnecessary) complication. Additionally you can't film and charge at the same time, unless you buy some sort of All-in-1 docking station which is big an not convenient to use with a mobile phone.

I take all my photos in Raw, I download tons of shows/movies from KZread, Amazon Prime, Nexflix, HBO/Crave, KZread Music, Bell Fibe, Disney, CBS All Access....... and so on so storage is very important to me because I am a media buff.

No real legit reason to not include it from the customer's viewpoint unless you're in the pockets of the manfucturer promoting the new product. Considering from the manufacturing viewpoint- they will save a few pennies to not including the feature/chipsets to enable expandable storage, the expandable storage is cheaper than buying more internal storage (slower who cares because for videos it's sufficient and if you want more speed buy a faster card) but also less expandability pushes customer to buy new phone rather than just plonking in additional storage. Another little strategy to making mobile phones "throwaway" devices.

Micro SD card Would be useful for power hungry users especially people who use Samsung DeX. Also memory recoverability is easier because if the phone dies, the internal storage dies with it too whereas microSD card can just be pulled and swapped to another phone. Samsung just wants to increase their profit margins and cash in on higher tier fixed storage 😂

Why MicroSD cards are important: 1. If my phone breaks and the data becomes inaccessible, then I'm f*cked. MicroSDs can be removed and read on other devices, so the data can be preserved and recovered. 2. F*ck companies that force you to use their paid cloud subscriptions. If I want it, then it has to be MY CHOICE. I'm not going into it if they're making it so that I don't have a choice. 3. Waiting microseconds for data to be read on a MicroSD Vs. onboard storage doesn't matter when it doesn't involve gaming. If you care about your input lag, that's what the internal storage is for. The MicroSD is for everything else. 4. Micro SD cards can be carried over to your new phone (in the past), so if you're on a budget, you can buy the lowest memory storage phone and carry over your Micro SD card from your previous one. 5. MicroSD cards are universal (in a practical sense) you're not limited to just your phone. You can use it on other devices too. 6. F*ck planned obsolescence and corporate greed.

They just sold me a 512GB microSD 2 years ago. Should have known something was up when they never released a 1TB, leaving Sandisk as the main pick. Who cares if it's slower. It's fast enough for 4K recording and every reason to put less speed reliant app resources on it. I have 44GB of, mostly lossless, music (over 5000 songs). Not counting spotify, audio books in audible (which top 20GB), video streaming app downloads, and apps themselves.

I've always used expandable storage. As for the people who never used it on their Samsung Galaxy flagship phones, that empty space could hold a second sim card, allowing you to have a dual sim phone. The storage on a phone degrades over time. The more you use it the faster it degrades. Good luck replacing those storage chips which are ball grid array chips soldered directly to the phone's motherboard. Even if you manage that good luck getting new storage chips that will work. It's engineered to fail. Whereas if you use a 256gb uSD card as your main storage, or secondary storage for important files and it goes bad all you need to do is swap the card out and it's fixed. Also, my S10 USB-C port failed, two pins seem to have shorted internally causing it to burn (the pins on the jack are literally vaporised) any USB cable I plug into it because the USB-C cable is shorted and goes into power delivery mode. If I had an S21 I would either have to upload everything to cloud storage (which ruins privacy) and download it (because 'muh private company' can ban you whenever they want and revoke data access) with my S10 I just transferred to a uSD card. I won't be buying a new Samsung phone until they bring back basic features, like removable storage. There is *no* good reason for Samsung to remove it. You can argue that a headphone jack takes up a lot of space and is also an extra opening that needs ingress protection. The uSD card in galaxy phones always went in with the sim card. Same hole, very little space taken. There's almost certainly enough space inside the phone to fit one.

I Currently have a GalaxyS10 with biggest sd card on it and even that gets sometimes full and i have to erase things on my phone. SD Card Slot are 100% a Must. also why take something away that is so beneficial to a lot of people and then still keep the prices so damn expensive when they removed headphone jacks, phones don't come with chargers and also no sd card slot and they are still asking over $1k for a stupid phone, screw that, they are not getting my money for sure. i rather stick to a s10 or s20.

Since switching Android all the way back from the Galaxy S3, I've stuck with Samsung's S-series (I skipped the S6), and this is a deal breaker. I sometime need to be in countries where the internet infrastructure does not make cloud, or subscription services viable. I like having my music collection on me, and that alone is about 100GB but doesn't need to be stored in fast but expensive UFS 3.1 storage. As for photos / videos, I also prefer being able to store them on a microSD too, simply because again, they can quite easily go into many 10s of GB before I am able to offload it and to be honest, I do need absolute performance when scrolling through them. And rather than getting rid of microSD, I think it would actually be better if they make their reader faster. (MicroSD card readers are often slower than what you can find on a PC. While they still max at a fraction of UFS 3.1, they can be faster than what we often get)

If you have more than one phone and you're on a GSM network and you're used to swapping phones every now and then, it's nice to have a MicroSD card slot. Because you instantly move everything over to the next phone. Not to mention if your phone never gets obliterated like my friends did when it flew off of his motorcycle while he was riding. It was a Galaxy S8 plus and had he not had that phone and made it a point to always send everything to the MicroSD card slot he would have been screwed. Because that was the only thing that was salvageable when he went back for his phone in the road.

I have a buttload of photos and videos and no laptop so it was easier for me to put everything on the microSD card, knowing it was so there's if I needed it. That being said, it was recently brought to my attention that if I lost my phone, those pictures were also gone if they aren't uploaded to a cloud storage of sorts anyways. My little dog passed away so I became a lot more protective over photo/video storage and realized I wasn't right in thinking everything was safer on an SD card. I have tons of photos and videos of dog classes and competitions and pets that are no longer with us and I dont want to pay to store those for life. But an sd card holds them all and easy to pop into tablet or other phone when we want to access them. Got new base s21 for Christmas and frankly I want to give it back. My older s20 fe has twice the storage and upgradable. Whats the point of the newer phone when I will lose access to most of my data? Hope to return it and keep my s20 fe until I upgrade to one with all the specs I want.

Explorer is lagging all the time, can't do anything while it copies from the phone. SD Card solves the problem. Put it out the phone into the Pc and BOOM - it works fine just as any SD card. A phone could have a TB of storage, I'd still prefer to use the SD card. I've also tried transfering files via Network but this ain't much faster. I don't know if newer phones work better when connected via USB-C than my 5 year old S7 though. Let me know if you have any better solution than using SD Cards for transfering files to Android.

I still haven't switched from my S20 just because of the SD card. Samsung should please reconsider and bring back the SD card. The speed issue is actually a non-issue.

SD cards has been the only thing keeping from switching to an IPhone. I didn't even think to ask if takes and SD card before I upgraded and now I'm heavily disappointed and regretful. This is the last phome Samsung will get out of me unless the switch back.

The top of the line models that are gonna be sold for as much as possible ;: should offer every option and feature so you get your money's worth. Also if there are gonna be different models with various amounts of built-in memory - the models with the lower capacity of ram should have an expansion to off-set the lower memory capacity of the phone.

The option of expandable memory is very important. And the point that green shirt was trying to make is not a significant issue.

I use my phone as a semi small pc so I definitely download stuff while my phone is in idle etc not to mention 4k files are big I don't see the point in getting rid of it. after my card fills up I transfer it to my hard drives and keep it moving part of why I got android why would I get a crappy limit on storage? when everything is going after your storage. phones are the most digital items we have these days blocking sd cards is to be honest very dumb.

I thought sim cards were for phone companies and micro SD were storage only. I dunno. My 7s edge has both: nano sim from ATT and my SD card.

Slowing down is a relative term. I have an S10+. I have a microsd card. I have EVERYTHING on my microsd card. All my music. Movies to watch. Photos. I' have over 370GB of info on my card. I have no problem with speed. I hated when they got rid of the headphone jack, but now they're making usb c earphones now. This... This is a deal breaker for me. I'm already looking at other phones for my next. I don't use cloud. Internet is expensive here in Canada.

Hey Saf i think its unfair how they put the best cameras amd features on the largest phone. What about people who want best features but prefer the size of the regular s21. This is why i prefer iphone

Apple did the same with the 12 series. Best features are on the max. Definitely to a less extent, but it’s still a difference. Do agree with you, I miss how they used to have a smaller sized and equally good phone.

They're forcing everyone's hand to subscribing for a music streaming service or put their music catalog in the cloud. Either way, you're paying more money, AND you're now 100% reliant on internet to access that media. No unlimited plan with your provider? Well now you'll likely need one. Out camping with friends or on a trip where there's spotty cell service? Sorry, intermittent connectivity is to be expected. You're literally paying more to get less. In 10 years of owning smart phones, I've never once had an issue with Micro SD.

S10 and note10 still expensive with sdcard slot. I never use cloud storage because its permanent once u send it to them even u delete it from your phone or cloud storage, the company keeps all the records even ur naked photos for life haha. Never trust them.
