No Light Photography at London Bridge, Portsea

I drove for a couple of hours down to Portsea Back Beach after midnight and arrived in total darkness. Instead of going to sleep, I took my camera down to the beach to see if I could photograph London Bridge while the tide was still out.
I was able to get some ripper shots in complete darkness with 8 minute exposures. Composition was difficult as I couldn't see what I was shooting, so I'd take one time exposure, then recompose from that until I was happy with the result.
I went back down at sunrise, which was a non event as the cloud cover was total, and took some more photos with the tide having come in a lot further.
You don't have to wait for 'ideal conditions' to take photos, just pick up your camera, take it for a walk and have fun.

Impressive dedication and another great video! I think I might have captured some B&W shots as well, but then again I default to B&W 😊

I have to admit, it's great watching the videos again and you get more from the images that you may have missed on the first go. This time I figured out what to say. These particular images seem like they are alive if that makes any sense, and it makes you want to just jump in and swim. I have only one such image in my files and it was from my Olympus E500 down at the Hook beachfront. I was gunning to make a Kodachrome shot which I love and when I looked at it I said .. yup .. Kodak CCD Oh Yeah. Not quite as good as Greg's but in all honesty this one could hold the tail wind.

What can I say Greg, stunning work and I love the textures and colors. I have recently started fooling around at night a bit myself and managed to get a few keepers, but yours are really over the top, thanks so much for sharing, well done !!

Thanks Greg, your conviction to photography is well illustrated here! I am always bemused by the effects of time exposure photography - shows the world in a different light, The longer exposure times I think result in more pleasing/soothing results than the shorter exposures which are more cold. It dawned on me that, in very simple terms, we see the world through a series of time exposures of around 1/25th. of a second (or thereabouts) and I wonder how the world would look if that was reduced to say 1/250th second, or less and, conversely, how it would look with exposure time of 1/4 second or many seconds...all complicated ofcourse by the motion we see...sorry.. went to daydream land there for a moment.

Comparing human sight with the way cameras see things is an interesting exercise, and a rabbit hole you can disappear down for days :) Cheers
