    I can make good photos with my phone, but none that I actually want to. It doesn't do raw, and I don't have much control. I can make good photos with my EOS 30D, but live view on my 60D is a useful improvement. Arguably my 80D doesn't do much that my 60D doesn't but I like the flippy screen, and the focus tracking is useful and the AF is outstanding. With my eyes, that matters. I misunderstood the "benefits" of fullframe cameras when I bought a 6D, by the time I lost it I had a collection of TS-E lenses, and for me those are important enough I needed a replacement. At the time, the cheapest replacement was a 5Ds. I sold the 5Ds after I got a cheap Lumix S1R with which can make every photo I could with the 5Ds, and a few more besides. And it has some nice convenience features. Mostly though, I use 20 Mpx Lumix G and Olympus cameras which can make photos I could not make with the 5Ds which is what I was using in 2019. I might buy an OM 5, I'm not as strong as I used to be, and hope it will fit into a pocket, maybe with a lens attached. If not the OM 5, then its immediate predecessor.

    Love my ttartisan lenses. The 25mm f2 was my first. I also own the 35mm f1.4 and 50mm 1.2. Have my eye on the 17mm f1.4. I know not everyone is into manual focus but I’m having a great time. Having a Fujifilm with exposure triangle and other features at my fingertips (X-T1 & X-T2) with manual lenses is like driving a sports car instead of a luxury car. Not for everyone I’m sure but great experience.

    I have to admit, it's great watching the videos again and you get more from the images that you may have missed on the first go. This time I figured out what to say. These particular images seem like they are alive if that makes any sense, and it makes you want to just jump in and swim. I have only one such image in my files and it was from my Olympus E500 down at the Hook beachfront. I was gunning to make a Kodachrome shot which I love and when I looked at it I said .. yup .. Kodak CCD Oh Yeah. Not quite as good as Greg's but in all honesty this one could hold the tail wind.

  • @GregCarrick

    It's pretty much guesswork. Although when it's that dark, a couple of minutes extra barely makes a difference, so it's all very forgiving.

  • @oneeyedphotographer
    @oneeyedphotographerАй бұрын

    Remember, four minutes to eight is one stop. Failing all else, guess. Then adjust as seems best. Next time, your initial guess is informed by experience. You could possibly get a reading by pushing ISO beyond reason. However, some of my cameras measure exposure over the exposure duration. Gets progressively annoying as you go further and further beyond 1s. With Olympus and I think recent Lumix cameras, you have live composite or something - you see the image as it develops on the back of the camera.

    Agreed they're overhyped by the online influencers who have gravitated them to cult status. You now have to pay several times their original value to buy one. I remember when digital first cane out and everyone was selling their film gear, I picked up several on ebay for £10 or less. Thankfully I kept them and sold quite a few, the mju zoom 170 I paid £10 for it and sold it for £180.😊 There are still bargains around, I recently bought a mju zoom 80 for £15. To be honest, they're quite a solid camera, I've not had any issues with mine but like any electronics they will not last forever.

    The S9 was never advertised as a Photographer Camera 😂 never pick a Camera on feelings. You said “you were upset” & “and the S9 didn’t answer anyone’s needs”😅. I could use the S9 in several ways to encourage Clients to agree to upsell items via Social Media. The S9 is great at many things but if it’s not for you move on. It was and still is advertised for Fun Pictures (not Pro Pictures), short video clips & Social Media Sharing nothing more nothing less. Canon and Sony gave us $2500 USD overheating Cameras and the community found a way to defend it. We get so invested in things we do like or would not personally buy to justify what we do have, We Camera Snubs are the absolute worst. 😂 Where LUMIX went wrong was they should have not invited ANYONE and let the market customers found out their personal need for it. I shoot 4 brands and what I’ve learned from the LUMIX experiment is people are hobbyist not daily shooters because if they were their would clearly not read specs only and make final judgements from there. The S9 has a User Case (I agree not at $1499 maybe $1199) but there is a void it fixes for Social Media Content Creators. LUMIX misread the room, oh invite these people who a filmmakers & KZreadrs because they are in essence Content Creators they take family and friends photos for quick upload, they post to instagram and TikTok to promote themselves with short form, they would like an easy to use app to style and transfer pics and quick videos… but “nah” the Internet is the loose canon of unnecessary judgement 😂.

    @janedaggerАй бұрын

    Hi Mr Carrick !!! I'm an ole punk rocker and newbie photographer.... shoulda put that in quotes I think. Anyway, there's two things I love; people who question and people who prove it. And you sir, did both. I've never trusted a corporation and never will. I research to my ability on a product and then ponder, a moment and either walk on by or hit the buy button. But, marketing is just a method to gain familiarity, also called brand recognition. Familiarity causes trust in some; it's basically imitating the relations with family and dear friends, but they're NOT your family. They're NOT your friends. They want your money. And money is a representation of time you've spent renting yourself out to some sort of business to assist that business to ... make money. IE: you're basically selling a portion of your time on this planet while still alive, to procure tokens that you can exchange for objects you desire, things you need to survive, and an object that provides safety, comfort, and protection from the elements. These are tokens you can only get by selling part of your time on this planet so other people can get more tokens than you'll ever see. People in corporations want to have LOTS of tokens so they get the feeling that they've sold their hours for more tokens than others; it makes them feel strong, and special. And they'll do anything; lie, cheat, buy politicians, and even murder their parents to get that standing. And that goes to marketing too. People in marketing think we're a bunch of rubes. And those at the top of corporations don't even give us that courtesy. Nope, we're rats in a box who are unable to lift themselves up by their bootstraps and become owners of billions of tokens, like they are. Marketing is lying, cheating, manipulation and lawyers. Sometimes the product is good and sometimes they rush it out fast cos they don't want to invest money... never, ever... trust a corporation. On the other hand.... YOu sir, are awesome :) All my love and pls be safe.

    Clickbait video comparing apples to oranges , Fuji does not make FF cameras and their APS models have poor IBIS poorer video than Panasonic models etc. The S9 hold no appeal for me , but when you see the whining about it online it is almost always the old codger brigade { a brigade I am about to join } this is not aimed at that group. The quoted price $1500 is US dollars and $2500 Australian is roughly $1620 US so not a lot in it. The 26mm F/8 makes absolutely zero sense to me Nikon has a 26mm F/2.8 that is a fully functioning lens a full 3 stops faster and only 6mm taller than the Panasonic. Every company has made cock ups over the years,

    All I'd want extra would be a proper pancake lens like the Nikon or Canon 28f2.8. Outside of that, I don't care about mechanical shutters, because every Fujifilm camera I've owned has malfunctioned and left me with electronic shutter for years. I don't use a EVF because I am a Ricoh GR III shooter, I got used to LCD - even in sunny Mexico where I live. I also don't use flash so the hot shoe is irrelevant. With the S9 I get better AF than my Fujifilm cameras, better IBIS than my Fujifilm cameras, and interesting new way to create and share colour profiles for use in camera, and it's full frame while being cheaper and smaller than most of Fujifilm's line up currently. As a user looking to leave Fujifilm but not wanting to commit to a massive camera like the S5II, Z8, R5, or A7RV, the S9 is great. Unlike most critics of the S9: It's a tool for a purpose.

    11:54 Panasonic doesn't sell LUTs, how are they the product? Arri on GH7 is an exception, cause all of the money will probably go directly to Arri lol 11:59 Panasonic is introducing another competitor to Leica travel cameras, but with one of the best sensors of it's price and a lot of Panasonic features, that even Sony cine-line don't have. 12:25 Camera, on it's own, is godlike. It has amazing sensor, best in class gimbal, awesome AF, low noise, wonderful V-Log, and a video capabilities like open-gate 6K. And! No useless crap that modern filmmakers are not using, because why would they. It has a lot of shortcominds, 99% of which You can overcome. I've clicked on video, thinking that Panasonic tried to silence Your opinion. I was disappointed. Also - the commentor is somewhat right. Of course, You're right - the companies CAN fail, CAN miscalculate and CAN do wrong. BUT in this case - You're just a wrong audience for this camera. And I see no reason for You to get mad at it.
