Hey Luke I use base ready all the time, especially City Rubble and Pine Forest. If I could make one suggestion would it be possible if you could do a short video, showing all the base ready actually on bases as I find the photos on the site don't do them justice. Keep up the hard work and look forward to future videos 🙂

@@michealhayward8767 Yeah no worries I find the sprinkle the large stones on first. Then dunk it like normal in the basing once spray or apply by brush the sealant you can buy off the store 😁

Literally do most of my stuff with base ready now. Got bags hidden away all over the workshop. I only really do different stuff if it's for a video. New blends look great too, fella!

Personally these are too simplistic for my liking. Basing is one of my favourite steps, it's a chance to tell a story with your model and I also prefer the option to pain my ground texture as I feel too much non painted grass and natural sand looks odd next to an obviously painted figure. HOWEVER I absolutely agree that these bases look much better than just a black base. If you're lazy or just don't have the time to base a whole army bases like the ones shown look so much better on a model than no ground texture at all.

Potential idea for you to consider: These days there's quite some people playing only skirmish games, and they might want varied bases instead of 250-300 equal bases. Have you considered the idea of a multi-pack of smaller base-ready mixes? Like buy one bag and you get a bunch of smaller ones? You would base many small warbands in different styles.

Happy to say we've got some of your products in our local shops. I'll be sure to pick some up, was looking to up my basing game, and this looks very good! :)

Love your stuff, I gave it a go and now I use it on all my bases and crafts.

They look awesome Luke. I go with bark chips, then sand, then static grass (adding sand first helps the static grass stand up instead of just laying flat) then I throw a bunch of cement pigment powder on top and throw a matt varnish over that. the cement pigment powder is a game changer, and it's cheap compared to what gaming pigment powders tend to be :)

With one additional step you can make bases look way better and that's to simply superglue something on the base to change the elevation from being perfectly flat. Like cut a piece of corkboard, foam, whatever it is and put it on the base before glueing on base ready stuff. Makes everything look more natural.

Love these products! This is how I base most of my miniatures, and I get so many compliments.

Hey Luke, im going to be so free to give an unasked tip on promotion for your products and helping people getting the correct stuff needed for what they want even if they didnt knew that is what they wanted to get. I know its allot of work but i believe it will be worth it on the long term. Anyways here goes: To make a video for each base ready mix and in the video you give like a few options on how to make different options with that base ready mix using one or more products from your website. Then make for each option a link to your website with a package including all the needed things like tufts the base ready mix etc. shown on the video for that option. Then when buying that package there is an added option for the glue etc. In this way people don't have to search on your website what is needed and can get everything needed for exactly how they want there bases to look like as you have shown on the video how to do it. All of this with only one click of a button, making it easier for the customer. Little saying from my country when you lower the doorstep, people will easier step through the door. Just an idea

New basing techniques like yours have made things so much easier!

I've been considering your range for a while, and this video answered several of the questions I've had. 1- 200-250 bases per bag. Great! 2- Consistency across batches can't be guaranteed. Purchase plenty! 3- You can mix and match to create unique looks. Absolutely planning this. I like the Rugged Field and Taiga Hillside for the current army. (and several others for more armies!)

I dipped my toe into the ready base with a bag of the plains mix - absolutely love it and will definitely add more. I usually go to the website when planning a painting scheme to get ideas for the basing to go with it. Keep doing what you are doing Luke.

Love your ready made basing materials. I was doing my own for years, but it is convenient that it is already done. I bought two from an online store here in Canada and then I bought almost all of them. Great stuff!

I'm a big fan of the Grim Dark City Rubble and have a couple of other bags sat in the drawer ready to be used on future projects. It's awesome to be able to quickly base your models after painting them and get that project ticked off as complete! Great work on the whole range dude

hiya, rediscovered the channel after youtube stopped reminding me for a few months - nice to be back and hear Luke's voice again! Anyway - when i redicovered the hobby after a 20 year break - one of the biggest regrets is that i had quite a few painted minis - but most of them were not based - so now i do it first - i base with sand and prime the whole mini on that base - hopefully making the mini "connect' more with the base rather than floatiing over the top. then once its done you could still add base ready over the top etc.

So glad I bought the old mars basing, its so hard to find realistic fine grained sand that is that red/orange. The new one looks ok but I can get that kind of sand colour from many places. I appreciate the more generic stuff is more versatile, but it took me ages to get the right red sand for my martian bases.

I started making my own mixes over ten years ago from Woodland Scenics, and its really funny how much mine is like yours. People should be getting what you're producing, its so much easier (and probably cheaper) than getting all the bits and mixing them yourself. You've done a really good job with these, and I learned a LOT from your videos. Thanks for being so open with your processes and thinking, you've helped me tweak them so much better

I dunno. Looking at photos taken on Mars' surface by the various rovers, it doesn't look bright red, but more brown, like the new mixture. It might be less eye catching, but it certainly is more realistic, judging by that.

Very nice results. Once I finally get around to starting my Eldar and Nids I’ll be getting some of these for sure 🎉

One thing, Would be nice if there were pics of these bases on the specific product pages. Also the amount of ml included For some reason the chapter in the vid is called bass red? What I liked to do with the similar orange brown GW sand back in the day was mixing ink and wood glue to seal it and give it a bit more depth, then very slightly drybush it with a light beige.

I really like the Base Ready range, I have several different ones atm and while I may spend a little more time on Character bases, it saves so much time and effort for the regular troops bases.

I love using a base ready over about 60% of a base, after Vallejo texture paste and paint ... Seems like a lot of work now that I think about it.

Hey luke, thanks for all your videos. You've really helped me up my game in the hobby. Looking for some advice. I use your base ready range and looking to do mars for a necron project. When I did my recent blood angels I found I was getting the base ready on the models with tiny bits of glue. Would you recommend not sticking the minis down before painting just tacking them and then removing, using the base ready and sealant then permanently gluing them down? Would love the advice, keep doing what you do.

I freaking love basing my mini's! It's the point where you can add narative and flavor and wrap the whole thing together. Your products offer a nice variation and a good point to start off from more easily. 🤘

Just got the Warlord Epic Waterloo British starter set and trying to figure out which Base Ready and length of static grass would be best to base them with to get them looking like they were actually at Waterloo. With them being ~13mm my normal basing stuff would be a bit out of scale. Looking at either Patchy Planes, but think the stones might be a bit to big, Pine Forest or Rugged Field.

I've been using the Scrublands for my Rohan models and really like how quick and easy it is to give a good effect. Couple of questions for you: Do you always do the bases before you stick the models on? (I stick my models on first to make them easier to hold while painting) And do you seal the bases after they've dried? (I found quite a few bits of sand and grit falling off so tried sealing with your sealant and it seems to work but is obviously an extra step)

I never regret sealing with the Matt Scenic Sealant. Often the basing glue it's self does the trick but if you don't want the odd bit falling off for the first few uses the Matt scenic stops that

Sealing is good as it knocks down the shine on the nylon tufts.

Hi luke your video on matt varnishes sparys got a can of winsor newton matt varnish spary can you use or satin the way you do it

I really like this product! Have 6 things in my cart right now.

Base ready products are amazing. I stressed so much over how I was going to do my bases -spent way too much on gathering a whole variety of products to maybe use and never being happy with any of them in concert, until I finally decided to pick up a bag. Once I did, and tried it out, the results were just what I had wanted and now I have a dead simple formula for all the rest of my minis. Each base still ends up unique due to the variety of little bits in it, while keeping a uniform look overall. A Far better solution than overthinking it.

Base ready is great, but if you have a bit more time to elevate your bases even further, you can add a thinned wash (usually a brown) to the dried base, then a final drybrush of a pale sand/ivory color (basing may vary). This helps blends the natural materials with the painted miniature, so it feels like one homogeneous piece.

I'm struggling to get the black sand with green glass to stick. I used the base ready pva and dip the model into the mix. Then the glass just falls off. Tried adding scenic sealant but it beads up, so I added iso then sealant..is that right?

The base ready stuff is great but I would strongly suggest to anyone you sing it that it needs sealing afterward otherwise it will come off. The sealant sprays Luke does are great otherwise a dilute PVA mix works just as well.

I fookin enjoy basing my minis, its for me more relaxing than painting the mini, you can come up with so many ideas. A base is basically a mini diorama

I have a question, how does your product do well in regards to sticking a miniature on top after basing? Do you need anything special eg glue wise?

Love the grimdark rubble one. I use it for my 30k Death Guard with some mud and tufts and they look great for the little effort it takes

My favorite sand mix is paving sand as it comes in 40lbs "18.14 kilo"

I bought a fondant mold of "cobblestone" I've been using for literally all my bases since I got it (using Crayola model Magic as the material I mold into bases), and it can be painted in so many ways that no two armies have to have the same base.

How do you get it to fit? Do you just make a big area, then cut around the base?

I used the original Mars red for a Dark Angels army. Made the greens and tans really pop. These are fantastic products

If anyone is one the fence about the geek gaming base ready range, take the plunge. Luke's products are amazing.

Only time I don't base the minis I paint is with the few that I did while trying out some clear acrylic ones. It took me a while to choose a base type for Star Wars because of the facing marks on the vehicles The pre-painted minis that I've gained over the years aren't ones that I base and just leave the bases as is.

Base ready absolutely the best, i always use them

I've used the desert sand and tropical beach just as you suggested and I love it, only thing that ever stops me from basing is once a figure is done it needs to be varnished and I learnt the hard way that you shouldn't spray varnish the base ready so I have a load of figures waiting for good days to spray varnish (in January, in Ireland) and they're few and far between and then you think it looks good and step outside and see bins rolling down the street in the wind :D Love the range though.

@@robertfairbanks5130 I did that with a group of Irish figures and basically it dulls down the base ready. A lot of the finest dust soaks in the varnish and essentially disappears leaving gaps that you could see the base through. It might not be the case with all of the Base Ready stuff but for Rugged Fields it did for me.

Well... There is one excuse, shipping cost is crazy high.

How do you ensure the basing material doesn't come off in play? I usually has to seal down my basing material with glue painted overtop it before I paint it

I've tried a couple of these and they are excellent. I'd like a plainer green field BaseReady without too many rocks /coarser bits with a lighter green. Something that looks like a standard Northern European field. It would be great for Historical / Fantasy.

How would you go about making a base that has fog or mist on it without making it look like you put cotton wool over it? love to see a basing video about some harder effects to do...

As someone who has 300+ imperial guard army based on old mars I'd be lieing if I said I was not concerned about running out of the old mix when the new one is so different. Is there any chance of doing a last chance to buy on the old mix and selling it for a month or two so anyone in the same situaton as myself has a chance to top up one last time.

3d printing bases is a good option if you have one and am trying to do something more scenic.

I'd hoped this was slightly more then a "buy my stuff" video as in Australia getting a hold of this stuff is hard and some what expensive. Still the range does look amazing!

To be fair any model railroad company sells premixed ground cover. They thought of it before, but it's aimed at a different market. No crystals or mars red in their mixes.

There is a way to make it two steps. But...... it’s ridiculously expensive. There’s 3D printers that do color (high def) that are amazing. Step 1 : design & print “. 2 : add tufts Done To me, making bases is basically mindless work and yet kinda therapeutic while also being a bit tedious. 🤓🤯🤪. That’s why I do them in “small” batches, four sizes : 1 or 2 large, aprox 6”x3” rounded and/or squared or random shapes ; 5 or 6 medium, aprox 3-4”x1-2”, any shape ; 10-20 small, 1.5-3” (basic figure base), can obviously be any shape such as round, square, hexagonal or irregular ; then just for giggles I’ll do 5 or “tinies”, roughly an inch that typically run smaller (15/16ths to 5/8ths), either for smaller scale or tiny character, just depends on how you add sand, rocks, grass & tufts. Just set a couple hours to the task and make it take exactly that time at best quality fun stuff. Often I use scraps from other projects, hence the varying sizes, but do make specific sizes if it matters, otherwise I let the figure decide what base it wants. I need to get back to doing it and build a real website. I make all my bases completely from scratch. I pre-make my own tufts and typically have a bunch of pre-cut Masonite base blanks bagged up. Just grab a couple when I’m bored and play. 😜

My mini's come with a detailed base from the molds they were made in. Is that an excuse? (Modiphius Fallout and Elder Scrolls mini's)

no excuses - preference. I personally dont like scenic bases ( i imagine a space marine captain hauling a tactical rock with him po stand on while striking dramatic poses ) If i could i wouldnt use bases at all, bu thats impossible, i was thinking about clear acrylic bases, but i magnetice my minis for transport, so thats out. I remember an old GW guide on modelling and painting and there was a side note discussing whether or not tha fancy bases are art on its own or just a gimmick.

Honestly I prefer clear bases. Blends into everything better that way

I’ve made my own base, flock mixes for years. Mix various color in a zip bag, shake and label. My oldest mix, my go to field blend, is over 22 years old. I can add models to whatever army I’ve made in the past and have consistent bases. Unlike companies that change their blend and call it the same. Also Luke, I want to make an observation. Late last year you said you were burnt out making videos for the sake of sponsorship. Respect, as a former business owner, I know what it’s like to need to pivot. However, this 7:45 minute video is basically two commercials in one. Stop the deep shill game and get back to ‘how to videos’ that made this channel. Please.

I have to agree here. I found this channel for the 'how to' tutorials and generic hobby tips/tricks videos. This is indeed 2 adds for the price of one... even if one of the products is your own. This video does not explain any how to but only tells the story of your basing products. Worst part,.. they are unavailable in my area.

These look great, but you're showing basing without showing any figures being based. Do you cut miniatures off any supplied bases? even cast metal ones? If so how? Do yo rely on gluing the soles of their feet onto your textured base? with what? is it strong enough?
