The current start boxes aren't great, but half of Indomtius was $100 and was 1000 pts. There is also a lot more plastic on the left, bigger models, more detail. I do think a lot of GW stuff is overpriced, especially outside of 20% off and the better value multi-unit boxes, but it's not quite as bad as 2.5 times more. Of course a massive benefit with SW:Legions is there is only 4 armies (i think?) and so you can always get a starter set for your faction.

Just make sure you don’t base Vader the same way. It’s coarse, rough and gets everywhere.

Wouldn't the $510 army be ~150% more expensive than the $210 army, not ~50% more? It's been a while since I did that "math" thing but I thought an army costing 50% more than one costing $210 would be around $315 (210*1.5=305), not $510.

If you use the SWL army as the reference point then the Space Marine army costs 100% more, or 200% of the base cost of the SWL army. 150% more would get you to ~$640, 200% of the base would get you to the $510 figure.

on the pric comparison, im not gonna defend GW pricing, they are far to expensive but if you just look at the number of models in the two armies, yes the 40k army is twice the price, but there is also CLEARLY 2ce the number of models (and bigger models) so while the "full army" is more expensive, you are clearly getting about the same number of models/same amount of plastic per dollar

they are actually the same number of models but yes the 40k ones are much bigger, I don't think one is better than the other.

@@EonsOfBattle oh absolutly, the star wars models do look good and if you are into SW then go for it, play the game you want to play i was just more pointing out that while the 40k army is definetly a lot more expensive youa re getting "more" for that money, even if its still not worth the price upgrade (yay only ever buying from discount retailers and ebay)

I would be very bothered by the visible green stuff balls underneath the ewok feet personally. It might have been a good idea to either use much less green stuff, paint the green stuff or to do both.

One thing that i stumbled over and can only recommend. If you want a quick basing thats easy, cheap and decently looking: I bought some adhesive film thats made for kitchen counters. I bought one thats made to make your kitchen table look like its made out of black marble. It takes maybe a few minutes top per mini to cut out a circle, put it on, and then cut of everything that sticks out. And the end product isnt super flashy but imo looks really nice.

Can we all stop and take a moment to appreciate how many takes it probably took to get the perfect epic "get my tools" montage.

WOW my star wars legion starter kit (that i bought months back) finally arrived today the timing man

My quick hack for a forest base is just a mud or dirt texture paint and then glue on some good ole Italian seasoning, the different types of herbs really look like a combo of grass twigs and leaves

I'd really like to see you do some interesting lava bases. I've based my star wars legion droid army with basic lava bases (some orange swirls with crackle paint) and they look... fine, but I'd really like to see how you take it to the next level.

Those two ewoks on the speeder base are about to get sucked into those jet engines. Beautiful.

I'm currently building/painting a Leviathan box for 40k, and I've got a pretty simple basing method that I like for my Lamenters-themed space marines I'm making - its just some simple craft glue on the base before sprinkling it with bird sand, and letting it dry for half a day or so. Then painted in whatever color I want for the desert - I'm going for a pretty bright red one that I then add contrast to with some brown shade color. Makes it look like a rust-red and/or bloodied desert.

Who knew, building plastic forests, can be so much fun, make more bases wizard. You mastered the magic of bases, time to master another art of magic, now.

Yay! you did a legion and a new forest basing video! Looking good!

When I did my rebels, I ended up giving the tops of the bases a light sanding, then used bits of mixed sand in a few small patches. Painted the part from the original base as stone with just a bit of darker brown for the sand, then greenery and vines (Cheap craft cord cut to length, soaked in glue, and rolled in flock). For the greenery I used a bit of flock, but mainly some green tea. The end result ended up looking like the temples of Yavin IV... My Imperials are more focused on industrial and weathering. Using plastic canvas and some straws for the majority of them. I'd attempted to try for something like the reflective surface of the DS2 Hanger, with a mix of a gunmetal and metallic black over the plain base followed by a layer of polyeurethane. That worked well save for the ones I wasn't as careful with the superglue for the minis with and it frosted...and fixing that with a bit more polyeurethane wrecked the smooth look of them for that unit of Stormtroopers.

I LOVE the ewoks on the bases. I've been meaning to print some of those and maybe make a custom unit card for them, but I never thought to use them as a basing accessory. What an awesome idea. One gripe I have with Legion is how the Empire and Rebels have a lot of biome-specific units, which makes basing an army kinda tricky if you're trying to be thematic. Sometimes you'll just end up with Snowtroopers and Hoth Rebels in a forest or Shoretroopers on Tatooine.

yah I agree, for my snow troopers, I might paint the white cloth parts black and call them "sandstorm" troopers just so everyone matches.

Basing! :D And Ewoks! I insist, if they finally do release a playable Ewok army i'd be nearly impossibly tempted to get one... Fantastic results as usual :D For Empire, the inside of a typical Imperial space installation, like the Death Star, their ships and others, with the clean, sterile aesthetic, would fit perfectly

Love the bases. And the Ewoks are really cool. I definitely want to see you tackle some Felucian Jungle, with the super bright colors and strange looking flora. And why not try some water bases like for Mon Calamari or Kamino. I'm curious of how you could do it.

crates and maybe a few mouse droids? just have to be creative on what they have on the base. i would say make some test bases to see what looks cool.

really nice basing,my younger brother got me a Warhammer 40K Chaos Cultists box for $38 for this past X-Mas 2022.I did buy myself a Chaos Combat Patrol on Amazon for $135.47 /Chaos Space Marines Terminators for $56.55/my younger brother also purchased me a Chaos Rhino tank N.I.B for $35.00 for a total of 62 PL, 1,100pts.I can see 40K being expensive but it can be cheaper depending on the route you go,either buying from Game Workshop's website for a FULL MSRP or buying NEW on AMazon for a decent discount or buying new in box for Ebay.

Could you make a tutorial for bases recreating the „orange desert“ shown in the John Blanche Black Templars cover art? :)

I painted the ffg premium bases black and then put a thin smooth layer of my girlfriends nail polish varnish stuff. It actually looks spot on for that reflective imperial ship floor

Perhaps, being imperials, a space themed base could be apt, or also similar to Necromunda's ones, in SW Galaxy hive worlds aren't any rare. So some hive/industrial/ space station bases could be interesting.

Well, the droids certainly need a more arid one, Stormies maybe something more urban, and clones... Felucia, just to give some color. And I remember from the X-wing books, one ewok who was given prosthetics to wear to operate ships.... imagine that for ground vehicles, just for funzies.

I put my Empire army on Desert Bases 🏜 I know Vader doesn't like sand, but the Dark Lord can suck it up... the Snowtroopers are making due. I just used a basecoat of Mournfang Brown, a slathering of Agrellan Earth, then a Zamesi Desert and Ushabti Bone drybrush. Done and done

Man...now I'm gonna have to follow through on my Clone army themed after the Bad Batch

Jay, as much as you love basing, have you ever looked into Kings of War? They have multibased units that provide huge opportunities for cool basing effects.

One thing I like to do is coat my bases in a varnish after all the basing materials are on makes for a rock hard solid base. All those with these completed models I’d be more hesitant to have the varnish around them.

I think this may be my favourite video of yours, basing is my greatest enemy at the moment I just never seem to get any good finishes. If anyone has any tips on how to make a mine like effect for some dwarves, please let me know.

Both may be “full armies” but the Black Templars seems to have at least 2.5x the plastic, and that plastic looks more detailed. A more reasonable comparison seems to me to be with an Astra Militarum combat patrol- which has a similar amount of plastic and detail and costs $160.

That's pretty good for speedy basing. Personally I can't base with the mini on it. I find it faster and easier to do the bases only and then put the mini on afterwards. I get too much stuff on the mini if I try and base with it on the base.

Yes, yes and yes again. Base - is a part of miniature. The base tells a story, shows the environment of your army.
