David's dancing was an outward expression of praising the Lord,it was done in the right context, dancing for the Lord in the right context is not wrong at all but one should not do so in a disruptive or provocative manner since God is a God of order,it is tricky to differentiate between dancing motivated by the Lord and his presence and dancing motivated by the flesh especially when the music is good,God judges both our actions and motives, we should check our motives when dancing for the Lord and make sure that our motive is to honor and glorify Jesus, when praising keep your mind focused on the Lord

I’ve been in church most of my life (starting at the age of 10). In my opinion, dancing in this 21st century is done as “showmanship.” The church is dancing as a form of spirituality. In other words, if you can’t dance or don’t dance, you’re not spiritual or even a Christian. It’s done as a form of entertainment. David was not in a church!

I'm noticing a concerning pattern. The church has become so overrun by liscentiousness, that now a lot of teachers are pulling so far away thay they're bordering or crossing into legalism. We see all these "pastors" saying "Do whatever you want! God understands!" and we recoil and correctly discern that to be wrong, but in our efforts to "not fall victim" to liscentiousness, we stray into legalism. I think it's a good reminder that it's not any better to be a Pharisee than it is a Prostitute. It's just as serious of a sin to put extra-biblical restrictions on people as it is to encourage people to sin. Isaiah 29:13 "The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught"

@AdamFontenet-iy3tb Because it's not sound Biblical discipleship if it isn't rooted in the Scriptures. Paul absolutely discusses things that are not allowed in church, not once does he ban dancing. It would be solid Biblical discipleship if the word of God commanded us to obstain from dancing in church, but it doesn't haha So people who take that position have no Biblical ground to stand on, they are simply imposing their own feelings on the Church. I am not saying I think dancing in church is great, but what I am saying is that we have freedom in Christ and it is legalism to put man-made, unbiblical rules on other believers based solely on your own personal feelings. I would say we all have to pray for discernment and be willing to accept the truth, regardless of if it agrees with our position or not.

Its also sad that some men are talking about women dancing in church "distracting" them. Just close yours eyes and focus on God. Worship is definitely not about watching other people to see how they worship or what they're going to do. David danced before the Lord on a road, Miriam and a bunch of other women danced and sang before the Lord on the other side of the Red sea. Okay so these were not churches. Does it matter? I don't see how when the church building is not the temple of God you are! I'll dance for joy because God redeemed me and set me free! I'll dance because God sees fit to live and dwell inside me. Why should the enemy be allowed to have dance when God is the creator? The joy of the Lord is my strength is it yours? Does dancing fill you with joy? Do you think it fills God with joy to see you enjoying life and all the things that He has given us?

As long as the emotional response is in response to truth and celebration of God working, I believe dancing, shouting, weeping, clapping etc. is biblical. Just let truth lead the way rather than manufacturing emotion and hoping that the truth catches up. Dancing doesnt have to mean being in the aisle or being distracting (which many conservatives automatically believe it always is) but I would propose that it can mean that depending on what is being celebrated! You may agree with Voddie…that someone getting saved might elicit dancing… but do you ever do it!? Do you ever response emotionally and just praise him with abandon? I‘ve been in many situations that conservatives were not in the habit of raising hands, clapping, moving their feet (bc it wasn’t a part of their tradition/culture) and I believe that they are missing out on a part of the spiritual relationship with God. Emotion is a part of our earthly life so why should they avoid it as a godly response to the Most High (who has done exceedingly more than any earthly sports team, job, relationship etc. could do)?

When in reality, dancing is a permitted act of worship by God. Every time I went up to the alter, to "dance", it NEVER felt real. Same goes for slaying in the spirit. The relationship between Jesus and I seems to be more focused and serving. Thing is a lot of Christian think there's a one sized fits all relationship with Jesus when in reality Jesus know exactly how to win everyone's hearts. Personally. Just Jesus and you. In the regular services it’s a time for thoughtful and serious-minded reflection. I think this appropriate.

Psalms 149:3-4 I also can't help but see a racial undertone to this. The Reformed/Calvanist is traditionally European and Male. In contrast, the black church (& brown) has long been demonized for our more expressive worship styles, specifically by certain white faith traditions, not because its actually wrong but because it does not fit their cultural preference. This is something to take note of, especially because Christianity is not a European faith. I think Calvanists often forget that God is also Spirit and supernatural in addition to caring about theology.

You it’s funny how people can always find justification to do something without God’s approval. Who is the number 1 worshipper of all time? Who worshipped God the absolute correct way without blemishes. Right the Son of God. But, we are going to imitate a form of worship from a man who was a murder and adulterer. I see why most Christians can’t overcome sin. The Bible says follow and mark the perfect and upright. How about following Jesus Christ as our model of worship. He never dance, ran or laughed out load, screamed, and every other type of emotional behavior. The way of the cross is a changed mind, not emotionalism. I feel sorry for this weak and perverse generation. They hate scripture, they exult personal relationships over the truth of God’s word. Every thing with this generation is what I personally believe and my convictions. Let all you be liars and the Bible truth. God said, he is looking for true worshippers, not form and fashion. “If the Spirit falls on you” please, that’s the music and the charisma of the singer and preacher. Soon as some of you get a bad report, all the dancing go out the window, soon as your money dry up , where is the Spirit now? Your spouse cheats on, kids disrespect you, your whole life is a mess, God can’t pay you to dance. Going to church saying pray for me. Emotionalism has no power over Satan, dancing has no power over the dark things in this world. But a change mind. God wants your obedience not your emotional outburst. The land is sick because of all this foolishness in America. Same sex on a all time high, public schools teaching kids about pornography, the government is crooked. And you all talking David dance. And where did that get David, sadly since this event in David life, you see a slow downward decline of David. He numbers the people, which the Lord hated, he married multiple wives, which the Lord said not for the king to do. None of his children were raise godly, we know the story of Uriah and how his own son conspired against him, and the list goes on and on. David life did not end how it started. I am not going in on David, I am making a point, you don’t look to men on how God is to be worship unless they are perfect and upright. Look to Jesus, the Author and finisher of your faith. What if David would had built the temple without asking God. So is everyone that give God worship he never asked for. Start with seek you first his righteousness and trust me, that is move than a dance or praise. Holiness or Hell…you decide

“And David “DANCED” before the Lord with all his might….” ~2 Samuel 6:14~ “Let them Praise the name of the Lord in the dance… ~Psalms 149:3~ Now, this is NOT DISCO DANCING OR SLOW DANCING WITH A PARTNER OR AS A COUPLE OR POLE DANCING! This is what the Jews did and still do, IT IS ALSO written in the Scripture, so you CANNOT SAY IT IS NOT BIBLICAL. Although it’s not a “MANDATORY” PRACTICE, you cannot condemn those who do it in holy praise.

I just l-o-v-e Voddie Baucham! In the OT it tells of how King David, among others, danced as he rejoiced! It never says he was in a church building dancing! Was David sinning because he danced as he felt great joy in his spirit?! NO! He was not sinning!

There are different types of dancing. "Busting a move" in dancing usually means "showing off" in dancing, which means bringing glory to the self, not Christ. The question is what is "wholesome dancing," or "wholesome moving' to Praise Music for the LORD????

The day that I got saved, God put me in a literal trance, and I couldn't stop doing a dance in the Spirit, and I was crying like a baby. The trance lasted for 2 straight days. I have been in a prophetic ministry for nearly 30 years. I am also an endtime watchman, called, appointed and anointed by God. Whoever says no dancing in the church, don't know God in the Spirit and are carnal.

In David's time there was no church. How could he dance in church?

I do not care for this when people are discussing the joy of the Lord trying to dissect it
