No Autopilot Computer Lowrance to Motorguide, How I Fixed My NMEA2000 Connection Issue!

Its never nice to be out on the water and our equipment does not work properly. My Motorguide was not connecting to my Lowrance sounder.
This is a bit of a different video, I was struggling to find information online for this problem with my Motorguide and Lowrance. So here is a little walkthrough on how i solved the connection issue that i had.
It works great now, and i now run all of my console wiring through a bus bar.
I hope this can help you guys with the same issue, and if you have any questions ill be happy to help the best i can with what i have learnt.
Hope you enjoy and see you soon!

Thanks, worked great to link up Xi3 which showed no autopilot. Got into menus and self discovered it. The head unit had been used with my Xi5 on the large boat. Lowrance is truly the easiest to use. I have tried them all. Love the Xi series. Spot lock is just that. Spot not big random area. The double GPS sensors top and bottom are the key.

I had this same Bus problem on my kayak. Figured out I was running the network through a yak-power switch which was reducing the voltage. I direct wired it to another battery and it worked. Thanks for this video. My network now works.

Thanks for making this video. I took my networked kayak out today and the network wasn't working. Now I know where to start to find the solution.

Thanks mate, The online tutorials for setting them up is awesome! I just found that I couldnt find many on solving this issue if you run into it. But if you keep connections clean you should be sweet. Best of luck on the install, Send through some pics if you like. Thanks for watching and see you soon. Steve

I bought the xi5 and the elite ti9. It doesn't work. The vessel view also doesn't work. The dealer has had it 6 times in the past 4 months and still can't figure it out. This stuff is way too complicated. Congrats on being able to figure it out!

Hey Refzz, It is frustrating when our equipment doesn't work. Especially when we invest so much in it. If I can help out in anyway just let me know. Thanks for watching and for your reply. Steve

This is simply and installation issue on power cable. On GEN2 PINPOINT not updated to L64.2 the issue of “no autopilot” was a bug of the pinpoint software, like no anchoring once to a waypoint or not following a route. After the Dingle Update (Which bring the model field under MTGD_GPS to L64.2 version) this issue has been solved out but new bug (can’t control xi5 from display after stow-deploy) is present.

I've replaced the backgone drop cable, from the head unit to the nema backbone, three times now. The connections on the backbone need to be in a specific order. Hate to say it, but scouring the net yields some forum references that Lowrance cheaped' out on some chipsets leaving us with week nema support which supposedly burns out quicker as more accessories are attached to the nema network. Currently, I have lost both TM nav and sensors from the outboard, hoping it is once again the backbone drop cable and not the head unit itself.

Hey K Mier, Thanks for touching base, I only have the Motor guide connected to my NMEA Network, it sounds like you have a lot connected up through the system. I hope you can get it all sorted, as i said its a shame when we invest so much money in our instruments and they stop working. I'm glad i could just share my video in how I fixed the issue with my connection error. All the best and would like to hear back on how it all goes. Steve

@@zykaskitchen2760 Currently, only TM and water pressure (necessary for setting motor height) hooked into the nema network. E-tec outboards can be added to the nema network and a host of engine monitoring can be done via the Lowrance, but keeping just the TM and water pressure gauge running have proven challenging enough. I don't want to attempt adding the motor.

@@450kman sorry to hear that, I'm not much of a tech expert when it comes to these things and it took me about 2 days to figure out what was wrong in my case with the connection. Without seeing your problem, the only advice i can offer is to work backwards from an installation point. I started with power and that was 1 of the issues i had was corrosion and too many points to 1 circuit. I hope it all works out for you mate. Steve

@@zykaskitchen2760 Finally got around to replacing the drop cable to he head unit. No difference. One thing I did notice was bus is off. Power at the input to the power drop and connection looks good to the backbone but I guess I'll start pulling the backbone apart and reconnecting everything.

@@450kman sounds like you might not be getting clean power from the battery. The bus off is why it is not working. Does your motorguide still work with just remote? Steve
