The 2011- 2019 VQ40DE is one of the most reliable engines on the market. Keep it cool and good oil and you’ll easily get it to 300k.

You basically said what I was going to say. 2011 to 2019 VQ40de it's probably one of the most reliable gas engines you can get in this modern day. Engine's been around since 2005 so they had almost 15 years to iron out all the problems. Very good engine just keep up on maintenance.

Good to know as I own a 2015 Frontier. Only problem to date is a tire sensor light that I haven't even fixed yet as I check the tire pressures all the time.

Mine has 520,000 kms on it and still runs great. No chain issues at all and no leaks no oil burn just 2 cam sensers and fan clutch .

My '08 Xterra is currently at 213K miles and still running well. Some things have been done, like new valve covers, crank sensor, and the plugs have been done twice, but otherwise it still runs well. Motor mounts are next.

I have an 05 my first issue was the coolant mixed with oil (milkshake) cost me about $3k to fixed transmission valve body replacement.. other than that minor replacements wear and tear. Already 286k still running strong.

Unfortunately i bought used and got SMOD 2 weeks later. Xterra sat for 7 months until i was able to buy a donor car for $300 with a good transmission. Now i have a question. When you did the Idle Relearn and Closed Throttle relearn, did yours feel like it lost a little power possibly through the throttle mapping? Because mine did. Idk if i lost compression due to the sitting for 7 months, or the relearns changed something and made it not run as strong. My Xterra felt like a V8 before the SMOD. SUPER AMOUNTS OF POWER/TORQUE! After trans replacement, and sitting for 7 months, it feels like ive lost 30 or 40 hp.

Love my 19 P4X, last year for the 4.0, got it with just under 7k miles, now 3 years later at 31k. Haven’t had any problems, my daily as well. I’ve done the oil changes my self with full synthetic with Mobil 1 extended performance. I also keep it in the garage, I hope to have the truck for a long time. I’d like to get an other with the manual.

I had the problem of low oil pressure in my 05 Xterra, when I was idling the needle went lower than L and the oil light came on and when I accelerated the needle went up to the middle. The first fix was to change the oil sensor, the oil pump and the relief valve, even so the problem continued. The second fix was to change the oil gallery timing gasket and after that the needle only goes down a little before the letter L but the oil light no longer comes on.

Buying 2 vehicles (used and abused) with the VQ40DE made me become fluent in repairs lol. Ive done timing component replacement on both. But 1 i had to swap out due to the lady not changing the oil and then it sat for 2 years which caused the oil rings to become stuck. Uve since disassembled it to find out why it was burning 2 qts in 300 miles. Hence the stuck rings. The other is burning a qt or so in 500 miles id say. Once i rebuild the 1st one, it will replace the other oil burner. Which has 330,000 miles and going strong. And the one i swapped has 220,000 and going strong. CHANGE YOUR OIL PEOPLE!!!! Dont abuse your engine and then sell the car to someone who will have to tear it down to replace vital components that YOU ABUSED. If taken care of properly, the VQ40DE will last 1,000,000 miles easily. IVE SEEN IT! These motors were built to last. Even the abused VQ that i disassembled, has CUTS AND GROOVES in the main bearings and cam bearings due to shitty maintenance. But even with that going on, and oil galleys stopped up with carbon, this engine never failed to impress me. Except its thirst for Castrol GTX High Mileage. But hey, it comes with the territory of buying used.

The timing chain & guides from the VQ37DETT found in the 2019 Skyline GT-R twin turbo can also be made to fit by an "experienced" mechanic with minor modding. Also, use head bolts from a VQ37HR which are stronger.

My 2007 Frontier had this garbage motor. Sounded terrible and was gutless. Only thing that made it sufferable was that it was not a 4.3L Vortec. I'm still grateful for that.

V6s in general don’t sound too great especially large displacement ones. In the Frontier it might be gutless, but in our RWD Xterra it’s decently quick for an SUV - probably due it lower weight and less drivetrain loss. Plus, many people have their VQ40DE’s over 200k which is pretty good reliability wise.
