    There is absolutely no information about taking these transmissions apart on forums until your videos which is ridiculous to me since its the go to transmissions for drift builds. Your videos will save me in the future since I already have a CD009 available to me but it has the notorious 3rd gear grind and 5th and 6th gear completely are gone so I was going to buy a new one from nissan. Now I don't! Also the focus on the camera makes everything you are doing look so clear which is a huge plus. Can't wait to see more of your build process

    because it’s often about same or less cost to buy a new one at the dealership and just toss it instead. More so if you can locate a good used one, but for under $1600 USD I’d rather just buy a new one. . not so uncommon with a few OE transmissions

    @@nobodyspecial5026 a brand new one from a dealership is 2,300. Ive checked numerous times and for a select few that feel that they can handle the task of taking it apart, this video series is the best walkthrough of where things go/how to take it apart. Parts are about $1000 depending on where you get your synchros and bearings from. Just the fact that Garage 23 did this series is amazing for anyone that has a broken CD009 laying around that they want to fix and use in their drift car. Most would buy a new one but just having that time of pulling your trans apart makes the build feel more special, at least in my opinion

    Thanks for putting this series together. With a toothless 3rd gear on my drag build I can't believe the aftermarket support is NOWHERE for the CD009. The 3rd gear vendor you listed is out of stock so I bought a 50k mile trans. We're gonna rip that one down and send everything to Liberty for cryo-treatment and hope it stays together. Your videos give the only insight of how to actually tear one apart and what should be expected, so THANKS!

    Thanks for posting this! Really nice clear video with a good view of everything going on! Was a real pleasant surprise to come across tonight after watching some other videos a month or so ago. All I needed info on was the rear housing disassembly and this was perfect :) One question, at the bottom of the plate sandwiched between the front and rear housings there’s a rectangular hole which from what I can tell is just a drain/passage for gear oil between the front and rear sections? Is that correct? The service manual mentions a magnet being there but I haven’t actually seen this magnet in anyone’s videos..

  • @Garage23

    @Garage23

    Yes! I actually didnt come across this until after I had everything apart. To my understanding there was supposed to be magnets in the windage tray but this may be for JK040 trans and later, this one is an early 009 so there is a magnet at the bottom of the center plate. Add us on IG and I can DM you a photo of it if you need. Thanks for your support 😁🙏🏻

    Awesome videos! I have a question based on your expertise. I dropped (literally dropped) my cd009 on the ground from about 5 feet in the air. It hit on the edge of the bell housing. Amazingly it didn't crack and even drives and shifts fine. However I'm getting noise in gears and 4 and 6. Not a grinding but rather kind of like buffetting noise. Wondering if my gear sets slid and shifted slightly on the shafts. Would that make sense?

  • @Garage23

    4 and 6 are on different shafts I'm not sure what would cause a noise like that. I suppose an impact of that sort could have damaged one of the smaller bearings. That's the only thing I can think of.
