Nissan 350Z vs 370Z - This is the one I buy and why

Nissan has always been great at engineering and designing sports cars that are not only affordable but also great driving machines.
I’m talking of course about the legendary Z lineup. From the stunning, timeless design of the 1969 240Z to the recently unveiled 2022 Nissan Z, they’ve all had something special to them.
In this video, I’m going to compare the two best selling Z cars of all time, the 350Z and 370Z and let you know which one I think is the best design by analyzing the front, side and rear side by side in addition to the graphic design elements and how well they play along with each other.
Last but not least we’re going to see how the different proportions affect the overall perception of the two cars and then I’m gonna let you know which one I would buy.

Also, you really just don't want to be a target, and by that I mean, the more you pursue the "Please NOTICE ME" modifications, the more you attract the wrong attention. And really, when people see a CLEAN older Rx7 or Supra, or 3000gt, it just says everything. I hope to see a few more clean Z's out there. Sadly most just have the same stupid crap done to them, all non functional cheap crap slapped on. It's like dudes that get tats but cannot fight, and guys that have beards but cannot change a car tire lol. Lets be real: Unless you drop serious coin into the Z, it's not going to win many races, but you can make it handle a little better, and do a few things to improve it's livability. I just keep mine clean/ceramic coated, picked a classy exhaust from fast intentions (carbon fiber mufflers), better front swaybar fixed the steering/turn in/understeer dynamics; 2-piece z1 rotors eliminated needing to mess around with the brakes, intakes helped with the sound of the motor.... As a Juke owner, I’d love to see what you think of that design. It was obviously very controversial when it debuted, but I’ve actually grown to appreciate it a lot. For example, I think the OG Juke design looks better than the Kicks. What do you think? Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I really like the styling of the Juke. It’s definitely distinctive and the separated headlights and turn signals are not an oddity anymore. To me, especially thanks to the wide wheel arches, the Juke is squat and tall, but not ungainly. (Like the Ford Ecosport.) It seems athletic to me, kind of like a bulldog. And the turn signals on the hood actually remind me of an old Corvette. Hear me out! Sitting in the driver’s seat of an old Vette, the front wheel arches were sharply pointed and stuck up when looking out. The turn signals in the OG Juke actually end up doing kinda the same thing. But maybe that’s just me. Haha.

Glad you did this video man, I have an 08 350 with the raised hood. I have always loved that side view just behind the rear in how the line just flows where the 370 looked like a big baby shoe on wheels to me (no shade)! Aside from changing my sound system I had a corner sub put in to keep all of my hatch space but my favorite thing was replacing the reflectors in the bumper with switchback turn signals/running lights!!!

I could wax on about these two forever. I like how the 350z has the essence of a Z but nothing more. It looks like a Z in style and proportion but without any blatant callbacks to old cars. The 350 still looks modern, and not retro modern. I also think it looks alittle cleaner and more pure. The 370z is beautiful too, but you can see the retro modern influences creeping into its shape with the 240z style canopy roof which took some getting used to at first but overall I think it works. What I don’t much like are the further enlarged wheel arches and bigger rear end make which make it slightly chubby looking. The pre facelift front end suited it better before it was changed in 2013 too. The only thing I’d change about the 350z are the reverse/indicator lights that are below the taillights. They were absent in the concept and it looked much cleaner. Now that the new 23’ Z34 is coming out I think the 370 still looks good but I prefer how the new car does slim down the wheel arches and tidied up the back end in a more compact/clean way. The 240z references are 10 times more blatant now with much of the styling referring to the original which I had mixed feelings about since up until the 370z most Z’s always had a forward thinking design that wasn’t so “retro” but I’m happy it’s being made, and in many ways the 240’s lines are timeless.

I can't decide which I prefer. It's 50/50 for me. The nicer elements of each design integrated into a single package for the best of all worlds design would be ideal, but it's rare to have your cake and eat it in the automotive world.

I own 3 of the older chassis Z's and I still Prefer my 76 S30 and my 81 S130 Turbo and 96 Slicktop Z32 body lines over the the newer Z33 and Z34 models. They were just curvy and sexier to me. The New Z is a call back to those 3 70-90 year era models and for good reason. Nissan is on the right track now.

Honestly the 370z Nismo is the one for me, the 350 always looked a bit melted in my eye. If I had to change two things on the 370z the first would be round off the peak of the roof so it was the same as the 350 and the other would be changing slope of the roof going to the trunk. Whenever the car was parked in specific angles (see 4:11 ) It always looked liked the roof line never ends.

  • @nicktubara

You mentioned the nismo 370z as your preference yet you'd wanna make its roofline look a bit similar to the 350. So in essence you like the 350 more. The way you explained it seemed pretty silly. The roofline and side profile of the 370z really reminded me of the older z's of that era n just looked so sportier and edgier. Looks miles better that slopy speedhump looking 350.

Im keeping my 2008 350z Nismo for a very long time. The 370 was the start of Nissan screwing up the Z car, and lets not even talk about the ‘400’ Z. The 350z was an evolution of the Z car line and not some retro mess of the 370z and the gauges in the 370 are a hot mess. Nissan did NOT need to go the retro theme like all other manufacturers were doing at the time the 370 was released.

It seems like it's really a matter of taste. I sold Nissans in 2003 in Colorado Springs and the local newspaper interviewed me essentially because I'd owned older Porsches. '67 912, 1970 S, and the piece of.hit '79 924. I was impressed with the vehicle and vowed I'd never spend money on another Porsche. I'd take the rear end of the 370Z. Peace

Interesting, our opinions are definitely very far off, i find the 370z to just be a more perfected version of the 350z. I find the 350 lines to be very bland, and the tailights are my least favorite thing on the car tbh. I just see way more aggresion in the 370 with the sharp lines mixed in with the roundness. I also definitely prefer the 350z nismo i think it needed the added aero to boost the aggression. And the white 370z nismo that you show most of the time is the v2 which in my opinion doesnt even hold a candle to the v1 style. But thats just my opionion and im always happy to know everyone has their own taste. ~370z v1 nismo owner
